I was a little kid when I watched Dobie as I was born in 1955. It made a big impression and looking back, how good natured the show was. I watched Cat Ballou last night and I think that was Dwayne's best role. He did OK and living to 87 is nothing to sneeze at. Rest easy, Dobie, you've earned it. Give my regards to Maynard!

I spent an hour with Dwayne Hickman & his wife Joan, at an art gallery in Northport, NY in 2004! He was exhibiting some of his paintings, which were great! Dobie Gillis was my favorite show. When I was ten,I saw 7 months' worth of reruns after school.I could see how the show evolved. Dobie has blonde hair at the beginning, but his hair darkened as the show went on. In later years, when he was a CBS executive,he was on a talk show and was asked,"Wold you put Dobie Gillis on today?" His reply was,"I doubt it would work today. Television audiences are much more sophisticated. We could do a show of that type...teenage oriented...but it would have to be updated, with our generation as parents of today's teenagers."

Yes, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis was the best. It was really innovative and interesting while being funny at the same time. I enjoyed Dwayne Hickman's introduction to every show, and just his character, and little problematic circumstances he would find himself in. One of my favorite characters was Maynard G. Krebbs (Bob Denver). Every time the word, "work" was spoken Maynard would have a sort of little fit because he was a beatnik and had no interest whatsoever in work!
