I had the privilege of seeing him years ago when he came to my local community college for a lecture on diversity. When James came to the podium, he leaned in to the microphone and the first thing he said was, "I see the force is with us tonight." He brought down the house. Such a powerhouse! I think I read somewhere that James Earl Jones had a stutter as a child and quit speaking altogether for a long time because of it. He then later learned to enunciate his words and taught himself to pronounce things a certain way to overcome his stutter, which is why his voice had that powerful, deliberate cadence to it, like not a single word or breath was ever wasted. Absolutely incredible. Perhaps the most iconic and recognizable voice of all time. Rest in peace to the legendary James Earl Jones. 93 years is a full life, and in that time he gave us a tremendous body of work that will continue to be enjoyed for generations. 🙏

I was watching Conan the Barbarian, which stars James Earl Jones, when I received this news. It hit me pretty hard. Star Wars is so important to me, and Darth Vader is my favourite character. G'day it's Steven from down under In 1977 at the age of just 8 years old I recall being amazed and mesmerised by Darth Vader up on the big screen here in Sydney, but it wasn't just the evil and menacing dark figure that Vader portrayed physically it was also that deep, warm and powerful voice of Mr James Earl Jones, without that voice Vader would be incomplete. Somehow I assumed Mr Jones would be with me all my life, but of course we're all mere mortals, and today was his turn to move on and leave an enormous legacy. I didn't expect to be so emotional but I am, and as I write this note I have tears in my eyes due to a great man that will be greatly missed in more ways than one. Rest in peace and "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALWAYS ".

Darth Vader and James Earl Jones is what got me into Star Wars. I was only roughly 5 or so years old and I somehow still remember sitting on the floor in my shorts. Watching TV. And Darth Vader walked onto the screen into the Tantive IV. Imposing. With a deep epic voice. And I was sold! He's been my favourite character all my life. THE key character of the storyline. THE cultural icon. More iconic and well known than any other Star Wars character. The only thing Disney has not wrecked for me. Tarnished a bit. But Darth Vader is for me still THE movie villain, THE redemption arc. He is to villains what Vegeta to me is to the antihero trope. The foundation all others are measured by. RIP James Earl Jones. Your work was a massive part of my childhood. And my Darth Vader novels, comics and figures are among the few Star Wars things I could not do away with. And never will. "Impressive.
