I have very fond memories of these cards. I was on holiday with my parents in NYC on November 1992 and I went in a gorgeous comic book store in Greenwich Village (Bleecker Street maybe ?) I think I bought 5 or 6 packs of these cards. Best part of the cards were the different and additional shoots you could find on them, scenes that only became available on the assembly cut. Still have them in a box 🙂

I was able to get ahold of the whole set when the movie first came out. I was mostly focused on the comic cards, as I was a little too young to be interested in what scenes made it into the movie and what didn't. The whole set must either be buried in my parents' basement or lost. A few years back I found the set again in a local retro toy shop sans the comic cards. The most peculiar thing about the set is that it possesses a distinct smell. As soon as I got a whiff of the set, it immediately took me back. Just a strange detail. Anyway, the set is really nice. In terms of movie cards, they were way better quality than a lot of other movie card sets.

A friend of mine had everything alien, predator, terminator, you-name-it sci fi. When he got the cards he didn't consider the idea of Ripley writing them. At least not all of them. He figured maybe she wrote some and the company filled the rest when she left. Despite how much time passed between movies, they did have some psychological records of her and this could basically be a way for the company to save face in losing the specimens. I always thought it was a gimmick, but kudos to my friend for making these connections.

On a somewhat related note, will you ever be exploring the possibility that Riddick from "Pitch Black" & it's sequels has a connection to Fury 161? The fact that David Thwohy had a hand in one of the many Alien 3 scripts combined with his later creation of the Riddick universe has always made me wonder whether the two seemingly unrelated stories could perhaps take place in the same universe at different points in time? Perhaps the Furia homeworld of Riddick is the planet which Fury 161 used to be? Riddick's birth on such a legendarily violent planet might explain his own violent tendencies & perhaps his frequent spells in various space prisons reveal subconscious urge to return "home" or at least a place like it? Your (excellent) video on "Outland" really got me thinking about just how vast the Alien universe could be if we join the dots of our imaginations.

I don't know why today everybody took the trend of calling the Alien "xenomorph", in the movies only happened once or twice, never liked that many people replaced the name of the creature because they wan't to sound more technical. In these cards that you showed here it's amazing to see/hear what was normal up until the early 2000s, the Alien is called "Alien", the movie isn't called "Xenomorph", it's called "Alien" so name the creature like that. Even Ed Boon when he put the Alien in MKX said that they don't called the character "Xenomorph" when he was asked about the character in the game. These cards are the perfect example of how people perceived the creature until the times of "the experts" (nowadays). C'mon, Gorman wasn't talking about the Alien itself, he was descrbing a generic creature but now everybody want to speak with his terminology. Let's call the Alien "Alien" again, everybody!. See ya.
