Honestly, I've benn playing roleplaying games for a while now, and the Alien RPG core rulebook is by FAR the BEST core rulebook I've ever seen. Even if you don't play RPG's, you might still wanna pick it up, it's not only beautifully designed but also really immersive and it gives some explanations and hints to the story (even if they're not canon I really enjoyed exploring it) and it gives (in my opinion) the best solution to combining the prequels and the original comic series.

Fun fact for Alien Isolation : If you load up Mission 13 and get back into the tram at the very start, you can go free roam much of the station (like perhaps 80%) without the Xeno being around. Just humans and Working Joes sometimes. You can more or less do the same thing during Mission 16 and roam a bit more of the station but the Xeno will be around. Being a mega-fan of Alien and Aliens, I love Alien Isolation. I play on console with no mods. One thing I wish we could have done was just free roam the station when it was in regular operation. I just watched Alien 3 again earlier today. At the end of the movie the character 85 really did show that he's an idiot. And right when you've began to like him. At the end he's relegated himself to waiting for the "rescue team." Now, he does know (via the computer messages) that the Company is overly preoccupied with obtaining the alien. He's clearly suspicious but he wants to live because he states at least twice that "I've got a wife and kid." Okay, so at the end of the film when Morse and Ripley slam the gate on Bishop and pull away over the lead mold, the guard shoots Morse in the leg and then 85 slams Bishop in the head with a metal bar, prompting the other guard to kill him..... Da fuck!? So you're wanting to wait to be rescued, not inclined to go help and perhaps die for the sake of the others, but then you get yourself killed when you half-ass avenge one of the prisoners? What? .,.. He really was stupid.

Probably to secure total salvage claims on whatever was found. If they sent out a ship to investigate the signal detected, they might have to inform whatever government is in charge of the earth and share it without maximum profits. Diverting the nostromo would give the company a valid reason to claim they just happened to encounter it by chance. W-Y's attempts to obtain an alien were either, pretty ad-hoc, or inept. The Nostromo was only diverted because it was the first company ship passing plausibly close to LV-426. There was no time to launch a professional recovery mission, merely just enough to replace the ship's science officer with Ash, and hope that the crew's inexperience would gift them a viable specimen. When the mission failed and the Nostromo assumed lost, they buried all trace of their illegal mission, rather than mount a proper retrieval attempt. Certainly, Ripley's testimony in her hearing, seemed to ring no alarm bells, except that Carter Burke decided to mount an unofficial reconnaissance, on the off-chance she was telling the truth, and inadvertently wiped out the colony as a result. It is only in Alien 3, that the company acts officially (ignoring the absurdity of exactly HOW the egg got aboard the Sulaco), and send a professional retrieval team. And by Alien Resurrection, of course, Weyland-Yutani has been swallowed up and no longer trades...

Some points to ponder, upon reflection: The lifeboat. What kind of ship was Nostromo - the Titanic? You had a crew of 7, but the lifeboat only has one stasis pod. What's up with that? Were Lambert, Parker & Ripley going to take turns going to sleep? I've worked on ships - you gotta have enough for crew and pax. Ripley's daughter. WY took care of Amanda. Who was her father? Ripley was young enough, did she have no parents? Father's parents? Maybe it's in other sources, like the game? The company knew. Special Order 937 specifically states " Investigate Lifeform. Gather Specimen". Ash was placed onboard to protect it and endure it's return. Ash fcuked up. When Kane, John Hurt - is brought back onboard, unconscious - Parker says "Let's freeze him" meaning put him back into stasis. Had they done that, they could have all gone back to sleep and Kane would have been infected with the Alien and sample is back on Earth. (Then the company can deal with quarantine procedures, but someone could have been bribed, etc. Someone would have had the alien, at some point in time) Instead - he decides to play scientist and lets the alien hatch, which leads to Ripley killing it. (Assuming of course, that stasis would have prevented it bursting through Kane - but even so, the Nostromo is headed back to earth, with the Alien on board...). Worse case scenario, from the company view, is that the alien wakes, kills the crew and the Nostromo self pilots back to Earth....unless the crew is needed to steer the ship back home.

@fredleggett9232 жыл бұрын
@@wartooth88 Ridley really futzed things up. All this David crap gives me a migraine. It's also possible that it was just blind luck that the Nostromo happened to be around the LV426 system when the ship's computer picked-up the transmission. Ash may've simply been a last-minute replacement for Dallas' original science officer for God know what reason and wasn't specifically there to ensure the xeno's retrieval. After all, he didn't accompany the expedition to the derelict, so how could he guarantee a sample would be collected in the first place? Once it was aboard, though, then and only then did the 937 order kick into high gear. Or, perhaps the Space Jockey had activated the warning signal thousands of years ago and some W-Y flunky just happened to come across it, thereby setting in motion the events in Alien. It was obvious the SJ had been killed many, many years ago, as it was reduced to a fossil at that point. All this conspiracy talk doesn't explain why W-Y would trust a bunch of redneck space truckers to bring back something as dangerous as a xenomorph. Common sense dictates that it should've been done with either the USMC's participation or W-Y's private army (which I'm sure they have). I know Alien makes a point of how far out the Nostromo was (around Zeta Reticuli II), but even if they were conveniently at the right place at the right time, the retrieval should still have been attempted with the right personnel, hardware, and firepower. IIRC, the whole "let's make Ash into a undercover robot for W-Y" shtick was a last-minute plot point inserted by David Giler, not Ronald Shusett nor Dan O'Bannon. I guess it was effective in the end, thanks to true heroism from the arts & crafts dept. (Ian Holm's milky decapitated head is now an iconic image), but it didn't make a lick of narrative sense.

It was actually the RPG that was my jump-in point on the Alien franchise. I write for another RPG line and attended Gen Con (a major US tabletop gaming convention) in 2019 in part to meet up with colleagues, but the chance to demo the game presented itself and I opted to give it a chance, having liked what I'd heard from promotional materials. I and the other players portrayed the last survivors of Hadley's Hope who were out on a tractor and arrived to find nearly the entire population already wiped out (this was the adventure included in the core rulebook). I really got drawn into the world by the demo, the game system (whose stress and panic mechanics are complete genius), and the game materials provided. Prior to that occasion, I'd only seen the second and fourth films by happenstance (I'm not much of a horror fan admittedly, I still watch the movies ready to shield my eyes), and still have yet to see two of the main canon films. It was actually the game that led me to your channel, in fact. Appreciate all you do and all the ideas you've given me for scenarios for the RPG.

Xenos seem to be like insects etc, ie they don't have any [higher] intelligence...they're not capable of piloting a starship or anything. Eg, all they know how to do is kill. They get on board a ship & they kill people which results in their own destruction (eg Aliens, APC crashing, didn't even capture people for hosts). In that sense, they have no intelligence or even commonsense. That also is my response to the absolutely bizarre statement by David in the "Advent" short about the xenos "populating the galaxy"; the xenos by themselves are incapable of any such endeavor. (Which in turn, or prior, begs the question as to what the Engineers were doing in the first place/the whole Engineers thread). H R Giger hit a real nerve with his artwork, of "Freudian ultra nightmares", which is about the human condition. That element is as viable as ever.

I would love to see more of the Conestoga class ships in action. Especially, in the engineering section the POWDER that allows the ship to travel fast than light is very intriguing.

Excellent work as always! Quick question: you've probably said it multiple times already, but what was the novel related to Isolation you mentioned early in the vid? Thanks!

I can remember playing a board game in the early 80's for aliens. Basically it was a game for two or up to four or five people. You tried to move your little astronauts (i think four) from the sleep chambers to the escape escape shuttle with an alien moving around the board. The alien could also use the air locks. The best Alien game I ever played was where we would play hide and seek but the person hiding was an alien. If you didn't spot them thy would jump out when you went by and take one of the group. Then you would have to retreat at regroup before going out on another bug hunt. Both games had the intense atmosphere of fear that was generated during the movie but ofcourse I was alot younger back in the day. I can remember a video game for the playstation and then later in the 90's I also enjoyed playing avp online. I had trouble with colonial marines so I paired up two xbox's and followed a friend through the game. Later I watched him play through Alien Isolation. Yes, I am one of those people who like to watch people play video games. Now I gotta get my hands on a copy of the Alien Isolation book and maybe even the rule book for the RPG. Thank you for the videos. I really enjoy them and learn something new everytime not to mention that it is a subject that has given me nightmares.

I want Alien series to expand the universe and focus on Xenomorphs Homeworld there are many things about Xenomorphs in the comics and novels makes them perfect and interseting than just horror would be awesome to see a scene how they show relationship toward their hosts like in the comics and would be interseting to see Xenomorphs fight Weyland soldiers and take their vengeance
@izzyalistair2 жыл бұрын
The way the cinematic timeline is going, it seems the Xenomorph homeworld is basically the Engineers homeworld

The xenos don't have a home world they just mutate and birth new life forms based on the host. Eventually they did make xenos with a queen but that's artificial

In Dan O'Bannon's original script for Alien dating back to 1976, LV-426 was always their homeworld and the Space jockeys / Engineers found them in a nearby pyramid.

Nice story, Hick was not on that pod that crashed on Fury, it was some random guy, all explained on the game.

Maybe he inherited a bit of Ripley's survival luck?

He should've named it "Star Beast", not "Space Beast" since Star Beast was an early title for Alien.

I think an interesting follow up to Alien Romulus might be the efforts of someone to shut down the experimentation and bury the knowledge of the company between Alien: R and Aliens.

Ripply didn't kill the alien queen, she jettisoned her into outer space. The queen is still out there floating somewhere, just waiting on some hapless being.
