Coming from a DCT F82 to a 2024 6MT G80, it’s nice getting updated tech and more current support for mods. It also feels way more planted compared to the F8Xs which can get scary quick if you’re pushing it. You can comfortably push a G8X with confidence and it’s still a blast to drive. I haven’t driven a GT3 before, but it’s also an aspiration of mine. If you enjoy modding and driving, a G80 is a good step imo. It’s a great all arounder- can be civilized and a people hauler during the week and a riot on the weekends! I don’t think it’s logical to spend upwards close to 200K for a manual GT3 unless the market dips more but that’s likely not gonna happen anytime soon. Driver’s cars won’t be around years from now so just drive what you want! Both are great choices

I have thankfully gotten a lot of seat time in g8x's. Both base (manual) and comp xdrives and know what you mean. It really is one of the best all arounders out there. I often wonder if I should ditch the truck and get a g8x comp xdrive for the daily and keep the f80 as the fun car, but seems fairly redundant despite their differences. That is a fear of mine. Knowing the 991.2 manual is the creme de la crop, their value isn't going to go down. I stay awake at night wondering if striking now is a smarter move than waiting to see if it dips.

Will continue to build the F80 either way. It's a fantastic chassis to build upon with a huge aftermarket support. I am still in love with it and never wasn't. The new e88's made me love it even more.

My G80 was the first car I've ever custom ordered. It's pretty exciting submitting the order and checking on the BMW website constantly for updates. The performance threshold on the G80 (particularly the xdrive variant) is just so damn high too. It's heavy, doesn't sound the best, but man I love this car.

Ha, I am the same, I start looking for a new car every October/November when it starts to get cold. I bought my 997.2, cayenne gts, R8 all in November. I too feel spending $200k on a manual gt3 would be a bit much. I recently sold my NSX and R8 and had the cash to buy the GT3 that I lusted for. But in the end, i purchased an F80 manual that I can enjoy with the family (including 2 young girls). The extra money can be invested or allocated to other important goals for the family (e.g., 529s, retirement, etc.). Best of luck on your decisions and thank you for all your content.

Picked up my LCI g80 not too long ago, taking my time with the mods. Such a capable and easy car to drive fast, although not as super engaging but I have my STI if I ever need to row gears.

I’d just create a flowchart of cars you want to experience with the last one being the gt3. This is exactly what I’ve done and I’m very happy with the process, get to experience, so many fun vehicles I’ve always wanted to and in the end will have no regrets bc I did so. Once I have the gt3 I’m never selling it so I have to make sure I experience enough beforehand, so I never have to wonder
@harrisonk_1991Күн бұрын
Sounds to me like spec’ing and ordering a G80 is the best option. If the M3 has always been your go-to car (to the extent you’ve obsessed about M3s for years), I think the obvious choice is spec and order a G80 M3. It sounds like there are very few mods remaining for your F80 and between now (to the extent you have some mods at home and you have some other mods on order) and the time that the G80 delivered to you, you can finish the F80, enjoy it, and sell it. While I hear your points with the GT3, I don’t think the GT3 sounds like the right opportunity for you right now for a few reasons. First, the M3 has always been your go-to car. You’ve had two (I believe) and have not had the opportunity to spec one yourself. To the extent the next generation M3 is hybrid, I suspect you’ll choose the G80 over the new generation and if that’s the case, you would’ve missed your opportunity to spec an M3 yourself. With respect to closing the door on G80 M3 opportunities, my suspicion is once you move to a GT3, you’ll likely never come back to an M3 and to the extent you do, it’ll likely be after the next generation hybrid M3 is introduced and if you go for the G80, you wont be able to spec it yourself. Second, you’ve been a sedan guy for a while (G35, STI, F80) and the G80 continues with the sedan body style, which I think is even more important for you right now having three young children. I understand this car isn’t your daily driver and you use your truck (or presumably your wife’s car) to drive around your kids, but what happens if you’re in the F80 and unexpectedly need to run to school or daycare to pick up one or more of your kids? That’s not possible in the GT3. The GT3 seems like a stretch for you right now, which would be worth it but not without some hesitation. It sounds like a 991.1 GT3 is more manageable/comfortable for you, but your heart is with the 991.2. Even if you can find the perfect spec 991.1, I think you’ll continually be wishing you held out for that 991.2. If you find the perfect spec 991.2 and stretch to buy it, you might feel uncomfortable with the cost of the mods and or maintenance and therefore feel restricted. I’ve been thinking about a 911 myself and often feel like it would cause me to feel something similar to house poor and therefore not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. This might be a stretch, but my feeling is you were absolutely blown away by your week with your friend’s GT3 and if that week didn’t result in you being dead set in selling the F80 and getting a GT3 at all costs, this isn’t the right time for a GT3. Buy the G80, enjoy one last generation of G80 that you spec yourself and do the M Performance delivery and by the time you’re done with the G80, I think the stars will align and you’ll jump into the GT3 and never look back.

I truly appreciate this response. Thank you for listening and watching the video entirely and providing some great value. You hit the nail on the head about the G80. I fear it's an opportunity that it'll be my last chance to spec and order my ideal M3 from the dealer before things start to change for this car. The market is changing so quickly. I don't think it's about being "house poor" or anything of that nature. I wouldn't be talking about one or flirting with the idea if I wasn't comfortable spending the coin. I think it's more about enjoying the journey and progression instead of going right to the top. I feel I'll almost enjoy the GT3 more getting another car or two prior working my way up the ladder. Again, appreciate your insight

I absolutely the F80 compared to newer G80s. They just don’t seem as exciting and raw feeling. Can’t forgot about the looks either and it’s not my favorite compared to F80. I think GT3 is the end goal, who wouldn’t want it to be. Smiles per gallon! I understand your thought with savings for your family while also being a bit selfish for owning a car that’ll come out ~200k to spec. My dream would also be able to own a GT3 one day, but I’d def want to have a house and be financial stable as I’m still young.

Love it! The gains are very noticeable. It's easily the nicest fitting and looking intake I've ever had the opportunity to own and install. @aaronbrown436620 сағат бұрын
Definitely skip the G80 and go to the Porsche when the time is right. I think with your taste, a spec’d G80 will clear $100k easy. It would make sense if you planned to keep it forever or if there was a profit to be made, but I think you’d lose a bit of money on it once you’re ready to sell, and even though your enjoyment comes from the journey, all that could have gone to the gt3. But really, you just gotta do what makes you happy, we’re not here for long and if enjoying a G80 for a couple years then jumping into a gt3 is within financial reason, that’s not a bad time to have. For the gts hood, I’d say go aftermarket. I live in LA, it’s probably the BMW capital of the world at this point, so we have many options for parts out here that you can go in and look at. Those hoods have gotten really good over the years. You’d have to order from somewhere reputable like Suvneer. Make sure you’re getting a copy from a new mold, once the mold has been in use for a while, that’s when fitment issues come up. If there’s no supplier local to you that you could go try the hood on for yourself, see if any of the companies are willing to test fit one for you with video, that’s probably not a normal ask, but can’t hurt when you’re spending $1000+. Finding an oem gts hood in mineral grey will probably be difficult and even if you do find one, I doubt the color will match perfectly and that’ll probably bug you more than any fitment issue from an aftermarket one. OEM hoods probably $5k, spending $1500 for an aftermarket hood and paint might be worth the gamble and if you don’t like it, I’m sure you could sell it easily and get close to if not all your money back.

Maybe we can help each other in the hunt for a GTS hood, Theres a company called Neslon Racing Design, they make CF parts in house to great tolerances. They need an OEM hood to mold and model and they can produce a high quality domestic product worthy of putting on the car for a fraction of the price of the OEM hood, and far higher quality than the Chinese examples widely available on the market. Maybe you have some community connections which could facilitate getting a hood to nelson for a few weeks?

I identify with the guilt of indulging your selfish car hobby perhaps at the expense of your children. That being said, the GT3 is essentially endgame material. G80 doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade from what you already have with the F80. If you have the wherewithal to swing a 991.2 manual GT3, I HIGHLY doubt you will look back in 5 years and think that it was a mistake to buy it. If you are meeting your savings goals for your kids and your lifestyle will effectively stay the same if you buy a GT3, the choice is clear.
