First of all, how the hell do u put your foot down sideways like that? U must b so flexible. Second, how do u push the board to slide if your foot is in that position?

Hiya. I'm trying to learn the coleman slide at the moment. I can get the foot/knee placement correct and I'm fairly certain I have enough speed to do the slide. I can initiate the slide, but shortly after my wheels lock back onto the road and send me going hard right (I ride goofy). Is it my shoulder position that's causing this or my weight distribution?

Great video. My problem is flexibility due to injuries. It is extremely hard on my knees and ankles to get down like that. Do I need to learn this first before attempting to slide standing up? High sides suck and I had enough motorcycle racing to do them on a longboard LOL.

Neo Smith personally I learnt to powerslide on a skateboard and then learnt it on longboard, then the Coleman. I have issues with my knees too, being a 6ft 4 15 year old and I just had to get used to the feeling. it's difficult for everyone at first because it's an unusual position. Try find a really slidy place (not tarmac) in the wet to learn

Hey man, this tutorial was a big help! I have two questions. I can't seem to do anything but a 180 Coleman. Even if I turn my shoulders perpendicular to the road, I end up gripping up at a 45 degree angle to the road in a fakie position. Second question is regarding the rail grab. If I don't grab rail, is it cooler or better? Because I can't do it without grabbing rail to lock my back foot into place.

Good tutorial! I really appreciate that you guys analyzed the issues and told me what to do, instead of what not to do. Clearly you guys have a tried and true technique that works, and you understand the mechanics of the trick without ever saying "Ummmm...uhhh...well basically you just do this." Very well done keep up the good work this is what a good tutorial looks like.

Committing means that you have to put all your will to it. You can't second guess if you'll complete the slide or not, you go into it saying, "I can do this." not, "I don't think I'll manage to get this."

here's the deal. If you're afraid of it, don't do it. You need to push yourself a little to progress, but pushing too much is a recipe for injury. Take it slow. Progress!

If you still can't do it, here's a very useful tip: get down into Coleman position when stationary (don't put your hand on the floor yet), and have someone suddenly push you. See how you fell on your hand and felt your leg move forward? Do the exact same thing while trying to slide, only be more agressive and really push the same time you 'fall' onto your hand. Don't worry if you notice your body isn't exactly on top of the board, you need some space to push the board out of the turn. Cheers! :)

Anyone got any tips for me? Im just learning and everytime i go for coleman, i just end up at around 75-80 degrees and stop. haha, could the problem be that i got no hills and am trying to learn this on flat? Im running Apex 40 DD, Randalls R-II, and S9 butterballs. Also, would it be cheating or even considered a coleman if i grab toeside of my deck? I think thats the only thing im doing thats actually gets me to that ~75 degrees. Any help appreciated. Thanks

well sliding works whenever you learn. just ride your board alot and carve alot for now, so your wheels turn alot and loose some traction. make them loose that glossy and rubber-y feeling. they should have a soft roughness to them, kinda smooth but not really. just ride ALOT for a week or two and you'll be good. oh yeah by the way get drones that are 180mm or 190mm. you dont want something smaller than 180mm because you'll get wheelbite with your deck. Good luck bro and never stop shredding.
@GoShred95
@GoShred95 12 жыл бұрын
those wheels are alright. once worn in. i have three pairs of "drone navigator trucks". have one on my bustin maestro mini. my apex 37. and my old sector nine. excellent truck. go on google shopping. run 40-50$ a pair and have flippable hangers for 52 degree carving setup or 46 degree for downhill, speed, sliding, and stability. have 85A bushings. incredible carves. switching from chargers to drones was a shock. id slide without even trying cause you turn/carve really hard. try em out! worth it!
@GoShred95
@GoShred95 12 жыл бұрын
i had a sector too. the wheels they come with aren't the best to learn how to slide. mine came with 77A 76mm. those wheels are pretty gummy/grippy, and aren't really made to slide but can slide once worn in, takes a while. i bought orangatang balut 83A 72mm and learned way easier with those. also gullwing chargers are, low quality trucks and aren't really made to slide either, you'd have to tighten it, so it doesn't turn but slides instead. try upgrading or really committing/learning! good luck!

Really nice vid men.. I only got one cuestion. I'm getting into longboarding but not for a lont time yet, and i'm still a little scared.. I have a loaded vanguard, with yellow 4pres, already worn out a little.. Can i try that slide with this set? Note: I still dont have money to buy protection, and if that helps, I can do a 180 by transfering almost all my weight to the front track, -pulling out aereal- or by a little more equal weight distribution -pulling out slide-... Ideas?

Hi I'm looking for lots of freeriding and downhill but I can't decide between the Caliber 50 degrees or the Caliber 44 degrees. Tried to do the coleman but i ended up falling, so my friend practice instead. So tomorrow when i'm gonna go out and skate, i'll try this. (I only had a t-shirt on, and totally loose pants on, so i had to wait to get some better cloth on to slide)..

i do agree what doomduck is sayin though but you have got to take chances in your life but not stupid chances. i hvent seen your hill but if you practice, you will get it.i mean go look at the people goin down bobsled hills at 70 mph. that might help you and dont go looking at longboard fails, it will make you more scared
@emilianorodriguez8

And one more thing.. As you probably know, that LB doesn't have tails at all, so its difficult to loose weight at the ends, and as far as I've tried, I can only do that by stepping right ON the track, and that's what prevents me for doing a slide without turning it into a 180, I mean, I cant get back, and i want to!

I can't initiate the slide when i'm not grabing the front rail of the board. Can you tell me what i'm doing wrong? and is it that bad to grab the front rail while sliding?

I know this was a while ago but try holding your position on carpet. This will allow you to stretch any cartilage that is making it painful to hold. My knee used to hurt like hell and I did this for a few days--just periodically stepping on my board and going into the motions of the coleman.

How do you fall off? Forwards or backwards? If it's backwards try get more weight over your board (I just learned this slide and I grab my board to do this) if you fall of forwards try and slow your rotation, so that it's not violent.

So as far as bringing the board back in on a coleman pendy, do you actually want to "suck" or pull in with your back foot? I've often heard it described more as pushing the board back into place with your front foot.
