About the part where water is a greenhouse gas we need to remember that water’s presence in the atmosphere is temperature dependent. This is why it can’t be the cause of the initial warming. The two factors that causes global warming are changes in CO2 and the sun. Not water. Water does play a role in positive feedback but it doesn’t cause changes in earth temperature.
@DanDan-eh7ul4 жыл бұрын
Also, the water in our atmosphere cycles every few days, whereas carbon can stay up there for years. Any additional water added will hit come right back down and maintain equilibrium, but carbon will stay in the atmosphere. Carbon is definitely a bigger issue than water.

I'm a none now, after 23 years as a Christian. Watching evangelcials over the last few years, combined with my inability to deal with the cognitive dissonance of "loving God" with the constant moral indignation I felt reading the Bible, has led me away. Honestly, the day I stopped thinking it was all some giant cosmic trial, with importance stretching into eternity, and just started enjoying the moment for what it is, my life got easier. Less frustration. I am not as angry. I dont feel separated from most of humanity. I've also explored ideas not permitted within the brand of christianity I was born into, such as meditation and yoga. I feel healthy mentally and physically, and I wouldn't go back. Nothing turns a believer away from the faith faster than actually reading the bible and watching Christians behavior. Pushing justice into the next life just absolves them of acting in this one. You have no idea how many times I've hear "it's in Gods hands" or "I'll pray for you", only to receive no further help. They feel good though, just like I used too. I thought I was helping, but even at my most "enlightened" stage, I still made an additional effort. I used to say it was being Gods "hands and feet", now I know it's just being a good human. By good, I mean acting in a way that relieves the most suffering or creates the most happiness and quality of life. No need for an outside source, being social creatures are do a good job making the rules up for ourselves based on the actually, measurable outcomes they produce.

It’s not so much that CO2 is the lever we affect as two other attributes that make water secondary. The first is that water is a feedback mechanism but not a primary mechanism. Higher temperature means more water in the air which increases heat retention until a new equilibrium is reached. Second water has a relatively low retention time in the air. Continuously raining out and replenishing and so has a shorter climatic effect than CO2. There is an additional complicating factor. Water, in the form of clouds, reflects light and thus reduces insolation. Although anyone from a Northern clime will be familiar with the idea that sunny clear winter days are colder than cloudy ones.

Growing up here in rural Georgia USA, my grandmother (RIP 1991), gardens where scattered across the pasture lands reserved for cattle. Most produce was canned via a pressure cooker I was afraid of due to reports of explosions. One thing I recall was the cucumbers pickled into "sweet" or "bread and butter" pickles. I complained to my grandmother I wanted pickles that tastes like the ones that were on a Big Mac. What did she do? We went to the Feed & Seed store and purchased cucumber seeds AND seeds for dill. Well I spent hours preparing the soil to plant the seeds on separate rows. And then I waited and waited. Finally the cukes along with the dill herb were harvested. All prepared and canned in the dreaded pressure cooker bomb. My eye was on that pressure gauge the whole time! Then I had to wait and wait and wait again! The product was beautiful in the Mason jar with the whole cukes and dill weed in the pickling juice! Nevertheless the wait was worth it when the cukes were sliced and placed on a backyard bbq burger. Added thousand island dressing, a middle bun and DYNAMITE!

There is a major difference between water vapour and carbon dioxide when it comes to climate change. Water vapour only catches a small part of the infrared spectrum, whereas carbon dioxide catches a larger portion of the infrared spectrum.
@subductionzone5 жыл бұрын
No, that is not it. CO2 has a limited absorption spectra. The difference is that water both enters and leaves the atmosphere easily. Evaporation and precipitation occur constantly. The reason that CO2 is important is that it is much more constant. It sets the baseline. Even if all of the water comes out of the atmosphere it will see a higher base temperature which means that water will evaporate more quickly. It starts the feedback.

So, as you might imagine, our good fellow was dubious of the authoritative alarmist. Fortunately for him and his family, Ken Ham was not around to stoke apprehension about the albeit limited ability of the science of the day to predict the future. And so our protagonist went ahead and built the arc, animal remains were laid down in sedimentary layers, kangaroos and penguins and duck-billed platypuses rode driftwood to their far-flung lands, and the authority figure hung LGBT banners in the sky and promised to never get that mad again. @nova_supreme83905 жыл бұрын
"Biweekly means either occurring every two weeks, or occurring twice every week. This causes ambiguity when the term is used. In the US, a biweekly publication is issued every two weeks and a bimonthly publication is issued every two months." - Wikipedia (Biweekly) So basically it is twice a week in the UK English and every two weeks in the US English. 12:20 The thing that YECist fail to see is that Scripture calls the Creation “Good” even after the Fall. So, the statement in Genesis about the “good” and “very good” creation must be referring to a deeper reality than the mere absence of biological life dying. Plus, it’s a very limited view of the nature of God. The OEC position is that God created the universe in view of overcoming and destroying evil. The present laws of physics will naturally “punish” any evil, and so, God knowingly prepared the creation beforehand for both angelic and human sin. God did this in order to overcome evil completely, so that it would never again come about as the accidental negation of the good. As an ex-YECist, I am shocked at how (after thorough, systematic study of Scripture) any YEC could still hold the position without blushing.

19:00 Ham.... is so close, yet so far. Kids are leaving precisely because schools and parents ARE teaching them.

The atheism is a religion is an argument I always like to hear, because it is an admission that religion is a reduction in authority.

3:30 (ish): Ken asks for data, but if you would provide him with the numbers, you're _'just regurgitating what you're told'_ ? What _'data'_ is he asking for then?

Hey Paul, did you catch that? At 5:10, Ken Ham LITERALLY ADMITS that he believes "Christ returns" isn't going to happen!

8:47 Paul just literally defeated AIG's argument with their preferred source for everything, The Bible. That was smoothly executed, and oh so satisfying. I can't stop laughing, because any attempt they could make against Paul's argument would be denying the "inerrant word of God" in their worldview. The sad thing is, Ken will never respond to that. . . even though everyone knows he's well aware of these videos. Anyway, thanks Paul, for the most satisfying atheist video I've seen in a while.

I was listening to this while driving and pulled over. Like the fossil record, Georgia, the Bible is filled with death and suffering.
