Ken Ham and his team have a bi-weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
Fresh back from my time at Faithless Forum and Talk Heathen... Bill Ludlow, Megan from Digital Hammurabi and I join Brian, Avery and Dr. Haynes as they discuss - German lab techs test teeth and prove lab's founder was wrong about human ancestors; Israeli professors publish theory linking neanderthals and woolly mammoths; Lecturer in cognitive science looks at wasps to explain human will; Chimps feel animals are people too; Cincinnati professors say mercury levels prove volcanoes wiped out life; French environmentalists convince lawmakers to grant rights to trees and more during today's episode of Answers News, broadcast live from the Creation Museum.

Anytime a woman brings up some variant of how the bible is foundational or whatever I can't help but think "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety." 1 Timothy 2:9-15 Wikipedia.

@@modernatheist5271 I assume you mean more quotes? There are lots of unpleasant Bible verses that most Christians don't want to know and are never read in church. Do you know the one where it says how hard you can beat up a slave? It says the limit is that the slave shouldn't die within 5 days to avoid being liable. I assume that means dying after 6 days is fine. It's almost comically ridiculous if it wasn't that shocking. Reading the Bible is a very good recipe for becoming an atheist. The final straw with Christianity for me was that, in spite of a fear of Hell, I didn't want to worship the God that is described in the Bible.

I base my values on how I feel inside. A good feeling vs a bad feeling. I already know what is right and what is wrong. "Do onto others as you would have them do unto you" is a good guide.
@stylis666
@stylis666 5 жыл бұрын
@@JamesRichardWiley Basing your values on how you feel seems like a good start, but just like doing onto others as you would have them do onto you, it's not such great advice. Not everyone feels the way you do. Sociopaths lack the ability for empathy, so even though your feelings can be a great moral guide for you, it isn't for them, even though in practice it might just be enough to not harm others since they probably still value their own well being and freedom. Masochists or people who are deeply depressed and/or suicidal should also probably not base their morals on doing onto others as they would have them do to them. I don't even know what I base my values on. I mean, I could say I base most of my values on what seems useful to increase well being, but I just have that desire. I was probably born with the desire to learn and grow as an individual and as a member of a society/species. But I also know that a depression can and does negate that desire, changing my entire personality for a time. It is however usually the remnants of the desire to learn and love and the knowledge that a depression will go away again and my personality will be restored that give me the confidence to just hang in there and go about doing the things I would normally do, even though I have no desire to do them at the time I start doing them. (I secretly hang a cup of coffee on a stick at the end of the chores I do and tell myself I can have it when I'm done :p) So yeah, the desire to learn is my basis and purpose. I also realize while I'm typing this that - especially when I'm depressed and don't care a lot about myself - I also hope to be helping the world around me learn and grow, just for all the innocent kids that are born and will ever be born. I don't think any of that was my choice though and that I was simply born this way and that I only discovered who I am. I do recall choosing to be a good person, but I'm fairly certain I was mistaken about it being a choice. It was more of an acknowledgement of what I feel; of what is left of me when all else fails. As a bipolar patient, personality can be a very confusing thing :P So I gave it some thought. A couple of decades worth of thought :P

@thetruthchannel349

Your point is? Morality is an ACT. Whether the act be considered good or bad is another issue. Morality describes an action not a value placed on that action. Morals seldom change and if you know anything about human history? When they change for the worse? It typically scares people back to Morals of previous generations. Its Cyclical. Morals themselves have been the same for about 7000 years. The basic tenets of morals are found all over the ancient world among 2250 cultures many of which had ZERO outside contact.

@@thetruthchannel349 Morality is not objective, it is *ALWAYS* subjective. You can have actions be moral or immoral, but also a failure to act can be moral or immoral. If for example, if you see a child in mortal danger, if you have the ability to save that child, would it be considered immoral not to act? If objective morality were real, then it would *ALWAYS* be moral or immoral to not save the child. If subjective morality were real, then it would depend on many things. In some cases it may be immoral to act, or in other it may not be moral to act. For example, if the child is clinging to a rock in a fast moving stream above a high water fall, such that the child will die if he lets go, you could offer the child a branch to grab and you can pull the child to safety. This presents little risk to you, while having a good chance of working. If on the other hand the child needs a heart transplant, and you are a perfect match, would failure to donate your heart to the child be immoral, considering that such action will cause your death? Not only would it be immoral it would also be immoral even if you were willing to die for the child. It is illegal to harvest organs form a suicide.

Topless beaches in Europe! What a scandal! haha. Here in Spain, it is perfectly legal to walk down the street totally naked if you want to, unless you are behaving in a "sexually provocative" way, like sitting in the middle of the street having a wank, for example. That would definitely be frowned upon! This does not apply to Barcelona-who aren't really even Spanish, if you ask me!-where they have banned public nudity for some reason. I think they permit it on the beach, though, I'm not sure. They probably have specially designated nudist beaches, I don't know. I doubt that it is completely banned everywhere. We laugh at prudish Americans who freak out at the sight of a nipple but don't bat an eyelid when confronted with images of extreme violence, guns, murder, blood and guts, etc. That is seen as perfectly fine! It's absolute madness!

How do you feel about boiling baby goats in their own mothers milk? Do you have any cotten/polyester blended clothing? If someone works on a saturday, what is the best way we can put them to death? do we still use the old stoning method or can we simply just beat them to death with a star picket or golf club? These are all worthy questions that need definitive answers so we know how best to execute "gods" plan.

The mere idea that other animals don't have the same emotions as us comes from their Bible loving ancestors (and probably all abrahamic religions). It's been ingrained in our culture that animals were only robots acting on instincts. And even after zoology truly developed our bias stuck. It's only recently that scientists are actually truly looking into that. It's so frustrating to see how recent real research into animal emotions are. Frans de Wall being a pionnier in that. Love his books. Scientists warn against anthropomorphisation but we should also be careful of not doing the opposite and thinking other animals aren't complex and the basis of our emotions aren't seen in them. We're just really bad at looking out for them. And we're a pretty arrogant species. And it's not just basic instinctual emotions. Some animals like dogs can have human-like mental illness. Dogs can have PTSD, OCD, separation anxiety, panic attacks etc. Complex emotions have also been shown in all the most intelligent species like parrots, dolphins, elephants, monkeys and the other apes. I'd recommend any of Frans de Waal's books as well as some great experiments done recently with chimps and Bonobos and elephants. Also I forgot the name of the researcher but someone trained dogs to go into an IRM machine and analyse the brain activity of dogs in different context. When the dogs saw their owner, the same area of the brain, "the reward center", that is activated when we are happy activated in the dogs. Emotions in general aren't complex, even ours. What makes us think they are is that we have inner thoughts that can analyse what we are feelings and reflect on them. Emotions triggers our thoughts to go a certain way but the emotions themselves aren't complex. Anyway sorry for that othet rant but it's one thing that really irritates me to be reminded of how little research into animal emotions we actually have and how many people still thinks other animals don't have emotions like us. In the past, and even to this day, this line of thinking led us to torture and neglect animals, to use them as mere tools and not sentient beings with value. And I blame Christianity >>. "And humans shall rule over animals" stfu Adam. Anyway, love your content Paulogia and loved your response to the school teacher being fired for a topless photo. I knew I should revisit your videos. Quality atteist content

@18:00 In the grand scheme does it matter? If we have free will we have it...if we dont we will do whatever is set to happen by whatever is in control....and the question of punishment for actions becomes irrelevant as any punishment is also not a free choice. "The problem with your bible is that, though there are historical events, there are many severe inaccuracies as well." *There are not severe inaccuracies. Any REAL inaccuracies are minor and due to the sheer fact that ANY text as vast as the Biblical texts after being translated hundreds of times there are going to be errors. The good thing is that these errors are VERY easily traceable due to the frequency with which the texts have been translated with over the past 3500 to 2000 years. Most of the inaccuracies you will point to have more to do with ignorance of the Bible than with translation errors.*

Cinderblocks, lead ankle weights, anchors, punctured snorkels, and vapid books filled with vain hope that my customers will cling to thinking it'll help them breathe underwater. Because if anybody watches AiG news and feels equipped, they may as well go diving wearing a cinderblock trenchcoat in the LaBrea tar pits.

14:30 Murder is *BY DEFINITION* the unlawful, unjustified killing of on human by another. If you kill someone who is in the act of raping your mother, the act is *NOT* murder, because it is justified. A person caring out a capital punishment is not commuting murder because that killing is justified. A solder killing an enemy combatant is not murder because the killing again, is lawful. Killing may or may not be moral, murder will always be murder. Now, killing is an active pursuit, what about killing through inaction. You have the opportunity and ability to take action to save a life. Is it moral to do nothing? Is it moral to simply let that person die? I suppose if it is someone horrible, say a child molester. You see someone who you know is a child molester is drowning, would it be moral to stand there and watch, even though you have the ability to save them? What if it's an child? Would it be moral for others (the child's parents, say) to force you to take that action? What if the child isn't drowning. Instead, the child is in need of a heart transplant. You're heart is a match, but you are still alive. Should you be forced to donate your heart (and thus die) to save the child?

As for social punishment toward woman regarding breast image, well, one thing you glossed over is that even in China and Japan, who are certainly not following middle eastern culture, similar punishment exists, social restrain is a thing that cultures have evolved with. Are you going to start walking around naked? Are you going to do public protest to support such norm? No?
