Anytime a woman brings up some variant of how the bible is foundational or whatever I can't help but think "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety." 1 Timothy 2:9-15 Wikipedia.

@@modernatheist5271 I assume you mean more quotes? There are lots of unpleasant Bible verses that most Christians don't want to know and are never read in church. Do you know the one where it says how hard you can beat up a slave? It says the limit is that the slave shouldn't die within 5 days to avoid being liable. I assume that means dying after 6 days is fine. It's almost comically ridiculous if it wasn't that shocking. Reading the Bible is a very good recipe for becoming an atheist. The final straw with Christianity for me was that, in spite of a fear of Hell, I didn't want to worship the God that is described in the Bible.

With regards to the exposed breasts of African tribeswomen, a friend's parents spent some time in Africa doing missionary work, and were appalled by the exposed breasts and had dozens of blouses sent out to provide some modesty. Those presented with the clothing were grateful, but found them impractical for feeding their children, so cut two holes in the front. The effect was truly outstanding!

I've known my whole life that other animals have emotions. My mother had to be sure the cats, dogs, rabbits etc. were outside and parakeets caged before ripping into me because they would all protect me from her violence. They obviously loved me. And they loved her, but would fight for me against her. The last rabbit became quite fond of Dad, but would still attack other men. All were a bit quirky (much older sister insisted "neurotic people have neurotic pets"). Like us their personalities could be altered by injury or illness. And sometimes revert back with treatment.

12:20 But morality does change from generation to generation.
@thetruthchannel349
@thetruthchannel349 5 жыл бұрын
Your point is? Morality is an ACT. Whether the act be considered good or bad is another issue. Morality describes an action not a value placed on that action. Morals seldom change and if you know anything about human history? When they change for the worse? It typically scares people back to Morals of previous generations. Its Cyclical. Morals themselves have been the same for about 7000 years. The basic tenets of morals are found all over the ancient world among 2250 cultures many of which had ZERO outside contact.
@erictaylor5462
@erictaylor5462 5 жыл бұрын
@@thetruthchannel349 Morality is not objective, it is *ALWAYS* subjective. You can have actions be moral or immoral, but also a failure to act can be moral or immoral. If for example, if you see a child in mortal danger, if you have the ability to save that child, would it be considered immoral not to act? If objective morality were real, then it would *ALWAYS* be moral or immoral to not save the child. If subjective morality were real, then it would depend on many things. In some cases it may be immoral to act, or in other it may not be moral to act. For example, if the child is clinging to a rock in a fast moving stream above a high water fall, such that the child will die if he lets go, you could offer the child a branch to grab and you can pull the child to safety. This presents little risk to you, while having a good chance of working. If on the other hand the child needs a heart transplant, and you are a perfect match, would failure to donate your heart to the child be immoral, considering that such action will cause your death? Not only would it be immoral it would also be immoral even if you were willing to die for the child. It is illegal to harvest organs form a suicide.

I don't get how some people can spend any amount of time around animals and not see that there's something going on inside their mind, especially with dogs since they are very expressive. For us atheist saying that we're "nothing" more than biological machines they do seem to think that everything that isn't human is just a machine.

Yep. The Russians experimented. 7 generations wolf to dog. (Breeding from the most docile in every litter. The other extreme had to be shot with a silver bullet).

Likewise, "modest dress" differs greatly in Islam, from the burkas of Afghanistan, to the female attire standards of 1970's Turkey and Lebanon. These are also "moral" standards that differ based on cultures and time periods.

Just watched a video on Pacific northwest geology. It's complex, many layers of lava flows. No freaking way did that happen in 6000 years.
