Reading all these comments are making me tear up. I’m type 1 diabetic since high school I’m 30 now in my 34th week second baby. First baby was 7-9 at 34weeks. Just like you said he got stuck at the shoulders. He’s great healthy just turned 6 and healthy. This second pregnancy has been better I have an amazing and way better Endocrinologist so I hope to stay pregnant longer and no preeclampsia this time. He’s weighing what he’s supposed to too. Definitely a relief, also hope to only breastfeed.

It takes a lot out of me to get out of bed, let alone get my squats in, I’d rather be able to hit the kitchen, find some healthy snacks and hit the bed lol.

Doc, thank you for the video. Just got my result of OGTT at week 30 which suggests GDM. But my blood sugar after I ate regular meal is usually around 100. But the fasting is usually in the 120s. I do not know why
@Acts-1322 Жыл бұрын
Rebecca, 120s fasting is extreme danger zone honestly. Avoid all the chronic diseases that come with insulin resistance like fibromyalgia, strokes, heart attacks, fatty liver, kidney disease, dementia, hearing loss 😢 And Please, exercise a lot! Strength training too. make sure you don't drink beverages like juices, soda of any kind, sweet teas/flavored coffee, etc. Those are SUGAR BOMBS that cause inflammation and damage. cook your own meals (not eating very often either), of whole, unprocessed foods like veggies and some meats, nuts, leafy greens, beans etc.

@Sarahbetho3 жыл бұрын
I’m not a doctor but I am a type 2 diabetic and I’d say yes! Keep taking it. Metformin is safe during pregnancy (I’m also taking 2000mg/day). But of course ALWAYS, ALWAYS consult your doctor. Even if you don’t have an OB yet, contact your primary care dr, let them know you’re pregnant and ask straightforwardly if you can and should continue taking your metformin and they’ll let you know right away what’s best for you. Congratulations and best of luck! Oh! I’m also pregnant lol. I’m 17 weeks pregnant which is why I felt obliged to help and answer your question. It’s safest to continue to keep your BSG regular during pregnancy especially in the beginning/first trimester where you’re at.
@DrTracyPapa3 жыл бұрын
Metformin is often continued in pregnancy. Deciding whether to continue depends on your blood sugar control and A1c. Talk with your OB provider and continue to be careful with your diet. Good luck, Tatyana!

Hi Doctor, my wife is 11 weeks pregnant, her fasting sugar is coming around 105mg/dl, her post meal 1 hour sugar is coming at average 130 mg/dl. I met doctor today, he told me to observe another 10 days and some modifications in diet else will have to start medicines. Another doctor I consulted she told me to start metformin 500 after dinner for a week and take a lab test. I am afraid, who should I follow?
@DrTracyPapa3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like glucoses are elevated. If these do not respond to dietary modifications and exercise, medicine will likely be needed. Metformin or insulin are options. Keep talking with your OB provider and experimenting with low-carb diet options.

I did it myself and it works .

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes just under two weeks ago and I was wondering if it's normal for doctors to immediately rush you onto medication? My fasting blood sugars are sometimes a few points high and I was immediately told to go on Metformin with around 1 week of readings. The rest of my blood sugars are doing well and I got them in control easily (I only was able to start testing right after meeting with the dietitian), and all this week I've only had one or two numbers that were slightly out of the range they want for fasting. According to the dietitian I talked to one or two numbers a day isn't terrible if they're only a few points out of range & I'm feeling overwhelmed because a doctor still hasn't called to explain why the need for medication when I was led to believe I'd have at least a couple weeks to figure things out with the diet & my diet was pretty much on point other than cutting out a couple things.
@andera87323 жыл бұрын
Iam in the same situation meaning being told to start metformin too quick in my opinion... Before pregnacy glucoze level was 95, at 8w5days my level was again 95, and at 10w2d my level was 98 and 84 after 2 hour from eating. These measurings are made in labs from blood taken from vein ..... I was told that because iam 41 years old(first pregnacy), because my parents have diabetis its considered i am very high risk for gestational diabetes and with the measurings listed i was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and given right away metformin !!! iam hopefull we will get an answer....
@DrTracyPapa3 жыл бұрын
We tend to recommend medication pretty quickly because elevated glucoses have a profound effect on baby's growth and metabolism. If you have gestational diabetes, chances are that you are in the third trimester, so it's important to keep your glucoses in the normal range as you approach your due date. With that said, your glucoses sound like they're improving. Keep going with diet and exercise. Don't be alarmed if glucoses go up despite your doing all the right things. And don't feel defeated if you end up on medication - it can be a great addition to diet.
@DrTracyPapa3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have several risk factors for diabetes - family history and your age. With this in mind, getting started early on medication is not a bad idea if your glucoses become elevated. If you are in the first or early second trimester, count on glucoses rising over time. Continue to be thoughtful about your diet and daily exercise. Good luck!
@Acts-1322 Жыл бұрын
Yes agreed, hyperglycemia can be dangerous. So don't eat very often, otherwise you'll become insulin resistant. EXERCISE a lot with strength training 3-4x a week! Cook your own meals of unprocessed FRESH ingredients, no beverages because they are sweetener bombs! Water or unsweet tea instead

@DrTracyPapa3 жыл бұрын
Experimenting with your bedtime snack can sometimes help - more protein, fewer carbs, or even skipping the snack altogether. But for many women, the fasting glucose is the most difficult to control because of hormone peaks in the early morning hours. If modifying the diet is not helping and fasting glucoses are still elevated, a bedtime dose of NPH insulin can be very helpful. Don't be afraid of medication - it can be your friend. Remember that normal glucoses are important for your baby.

If you have diabetes, asking about pregnancy BEFORE you get pregnant is very smart! I encourage you to talk to your primary care provider or your Ob/Gyn. Some things to think about: - How well is your diabetes controlled? The best time to get pregnant is when your blood sugars are well-controlled. - Do you have any other health problems, like high blood pressure or obesity? Make sure and address these issues before getting pregnant. You don't have to be slim, but losing even 5-10% of any excess body weight will make your pregnancy healthier. - Do you have a family history of genetic conditions or illnesses? Talk about these with your provider so that you know if you have any increased risks. Good luck!
