I used this product on my 2013 Mustang's black carpet, which faded. It worked well. You made a good suggestion to use spray bottles; they help get color in a uniform pattern. RIX can be purchased in quite a few grocery stores and CVS stores, too.

I have a 1978 Mustang and the carpet faded to brown from black but its shag and to replace it id have to get normal carpet because thats all thats available so i was recommended rit. so im going to try a trial run on my 05 escape which has a stained tan carpet that im going to try to dye dark red (same as the headliner color) but i plan to take it fully out to really clean it

You could give it a shot. I can’t speak to a color change. I think you would be ok with 78 Mustang. Best of luck

Actually you can dye a dirty carpet if it's a darker shade.

That may be true but why not start with a clean slate?
