My former Master SGT was at Korengal. Those guys are legends as well. Thankfully when I got shipped over, when I was behind the wire, shit man, at least I was as safe as I could be. It's creepy how your mind tries to relax after getting shot at for 4 1/2 hours. Anyways, for what it's worth, I agree, and this film did a good job portraying Kamdesh.

Joined the marines little over three years ago. Haven't shed a tear in near six years. Watched the outpost about a hour ago and i started sobbing when those ending credits appeared with the guys real photos. It doesn't hit you until right then that this is real, these are your countrymen, brother who died there, who are still dying. I may never get the chance to make my mark on history like these men but i will forever be greatful for what they sacrificed.

This movie was amazing. It didn't use big name actors, or lie about events in order to seem more intense or intresting. The actors look almost identical to the soldier's who fought and died. This movie wasn't some war movie loosely based on a true story, it was a story.

I forget which actor, But when watching the credits you can see a clip of one of the actors which was actually in the battle, and him explaining how weird it is to be in that mindset again, so no, they didn’t get similar looking actors, they got the real deal

Orlando Bloom is a pretty big name actor (Lord of the Rings and likely others) and Scott Eastwood has a big name from his father but no not a 'big name' yet. He probably will be. I was impressed with both of them and all the other actors maybe more so. Like the one who played Carter was incredible and I was surprised/shocked one of the actors played himself. Learning things like that is why I like to listen to the special features on DVD's......I'm glad in this case I was patient and kept watching past the credits to find that out. Extremely realistic movie that was very suspenseful that got better as it went on - I didn't know what to expect and thought it was just another war movie but it was something special.

Now that being said, nothing but respect to all that serve. I agree with Daniel, get the ranger handbook, aim high try to be a SF or something. Either that or join the chair force, I hear they pay well.

@Brandons legion Not sure how much oil is in Afghanistan or how building schools and hospitals helps collect oil but sure you could say the War on Terror is mostly about resources, like most wars... even WW2, arguably the most justified war in human history and yet it was one of/if not the worst war ever fought. I don't think the why matters much, war is hell and should be avoided at all costs. But the Taliban also deserves every incoming bullet and bomb that goes their way.

Who will be the last to remain Where there's only God and pain? There's nothing more brave Than those voices from the grave Only they can tell us why Only they will never lie About the reason that we stand On the road to the edge of man Who will be the last to die In a land where empires cry? I love this song. So deep. The Movie carries over a whole period of months, leaving many details out, but having the main point in there. But it has not covered the (in my opinion) saddest event about the Outpost: The Afghan Army was with the Americans for the whole time. All reinforcements had to go over one single road. Once, when new troops were sent to the outpost as reinforcements, the convoi was attacked. The insurgents destroyed a Afghan army Truck in the middle of the column, defidint the afghan part from the American part. Under constant fire the americans kept driving on with speed, leaving the afghans behind. Left without the Americans, who had better training and firepower, the Afghans were incircled and massacred almost to the man. 74 afghan soldiers died. Several were captured and later executed. The Insurgents stole most of the weapons and equiptment before the americans returned. This and some other events resulted in the afghan army distrusting the US troops. understandably. It was a shameful day for the american military. leaving an ally in the field. I dont lie. You can read it all in the novel the movie is based on. I think they didnt cover it in the movie because it would be considered anti-american. But its the tragedy of war. men, like this american platoon leader, make decisions and have to live with the consequences. War is hell.

“In a land where empires cry” Yep. That pretty much sums up Afghanistan. All other countries and even the US failed to change that.

We tried. So damn hard. To help them. To end the threat. We gave lives to help people who treated us like the enemies. And now biden spits in the face of men like these. Men i fought with that werent lucky enough to make it home. The land where empires cried? Governments never cried there. We did. Thats the one lyric i cant stand.

We never came to help them, We came for revenge of Al Qaeda and 9/11 attack. For some reason we tried to form a government that a majority didnt want. Our democratic views blinded us because we underestimated the power of religion, regardless of the contents. The war on terror and 9/11 is a tragedy since the US made so many mistakes and so many atrocities to afgan civilians that they rejected western ideology in favor of Islam. We shouldnt have fought the taliban. We should have killed off Bin laden and Al Qaeda and just left.

@@thegranner9965 we did go in and kill bin laden then leave. Then the taliban conquered and enslaved the free people. They begged everyone for help. Everyone but the russians. So the U.N. sent in peacekeeping missions. Ascertained the situation. And advised joint action from 39 different countries to take down the taliban regime. America was part of that. America didnt make these decisions alone. We did our thing. Left. Then were called back in. Along with france britain spain germany ireland canada norway estonia and numerous mini countries. We went in to fulfill a mission for the united nations coalition to save the free peoples of Afghanistan. Why do you think we didnt go in guns blazing. Why do you think we went it and set up camps to supply monetary aid, militant strength, training, and infrstructure. Because it wasnt "hurr make them be a democracy hurr" like korea and vietnam and cuba were. No. This wasnt that at all. It was a near globally sanctioned, united nations backed, rescue and counter terrorism effort. Come back when you know the full situatuon and have learned the entirety of why we fought.

My favorite part of the movie was its lessons in leadership. Keating was a good officer, and that was reflected in his men. Yllescas wasn’t bad. But he certainly wasn’t as good, either. Broward was horrendous. Bundermann learned from Keating, and was arguably even better. And throughout, it was made pretty clear that the NCO’s run the show, or at least are the ones who really make things happen on the ground. There are other reasons it’s a great movie. But the depiction of good leaders vs bad bosses is at the top of my list.

Little known fact; the entire production was as veteran directed, produced, and acted as possible. If I'm not mistaken a few troops at COP Keating we're actually in the movie, and helped ensure its accuracy.
