River Adur Chess Stream Waggler Session Wednesday 29th November 2023

I thought I'd give it a go on the float at the Chess Stream just to see what it was like on a very cold November day.

Thanks for your reply Alan, I find your videos very refreshing and a lot more interesting than watching someone pulling out loads of big chub and barbel every cast, it’s all about the enjoyment you get and how to catch the fish not, necessarily the bag of fish at the end of the session, always remember if they aren’t there you ain’t gonner catch um!!

Hi Alan, I drove passed and spotted the blue hat and thought it must be you fishing. Glad to see you caught. Many years ago the Dace spawned in the Chess stream. Keep the videos coming mate.🎣🎣

Hi Alan hard day but the two Roach looked a decent size, so keep trying. If I was fishing there I would have scaled down due the temperature and river level, try a drennan CRYSTAL waggler, size 20 hook 1.5lb hook link, 2lb main line, with a few floro pinkies, it’s surprising what you can land on light tackle , on the quoted rig the best fish I landed was a19lb 8oz. Pike (took me an hour to land it , don’t think it realized it was hooked) but great fun anyway, also have had other pike up to 14lb taking dace I have hooked, but admittedly on larger rivers where you can let them take plenty of line, would be impossible on that place you fish, but worth scaling down I think!!

Hi Graham yes I was in two minds as what to do I think that probably influenced me only catching the two if I floatfish it again ill scale right down as you say it is surprising what you can catch. I was pleased with the two Roach I caught though and I'll also use the drennan crystal waggler next time.

I don't believe those fish would be tackle shy they don't have much if any angling pressure. But yes you could fine down and perhaps catch mini specimens that may exist there. glad you used the plummet it teaches you a lot not just depth but the composition of the bottom and possible snags. Dark ground bait ? not my thing.....different days, changing conditions etc i can understand, I would have perhaps just loose fed sparingly maggot with just a tiny bit of light silverfish ground bait every 4 or 5 casts at most. Taste without feeding ? Your learning all the time and enjoying it. You were up against it, bright sunny day, clear water, high pressure system rapid drop in temperatures not ideal!!!! Your are becoming a Chub addict🤣 its easily done they can be very obliging in the RIGHT conditions🎣 Don't give up on the float though, many different ways of presentation even in winter.

Thanks Ray, haha 🤣 yes I must admit I am getting hooked on Chub it's so exciting fishing different swims each one being different to the previous. I'll be out after another one on the next video on the main river so may be more of a challenge but we will see you really can't beat link leger with breadflake just watching that rod tip pull round is really exciting. Conditions were a little difficult on this one water was a little on the clear side and had dropped a fair bit along with the temps but I was happy I caught something
