Brilliant session you just cannot beat a day by moving water ,wheat still is a great bait my dad used it on the Trent and believe it or not welbeck lakes in the sixties along with custard paste ,thanks look forward to the next day out .Roy

Thanks for another great video. I use stewed wheat all the time, but always as a change bait, never on it's own. Which brings me to the question of feeding, I've always been hesitant when it comes to loose feeding stewed wheat, believing it to be quite filling for the fish. I never feed more than a couple of grains every cast, even if I'm catching well on it. How do you loose feed stewed wheat? After seeing the tub of wheat you took to the bank, you're clearly far more positive with the amount of feed than I would be. Thanks

Thanks and a pleasure. I agree on the filling nature of the bait. Usually start off feeding very lightly (5-10 grains a chuck) and only up the amount if or once the bites are coming more regularly. But starting with just 2-3 isn't a bad idea until you know there are a few fish interested. Little and often. It's also a dense grain and, much like hemp, sinks quickly, so can be good for keeping fish feeding near or on the deck. A pint is generally enough and that's another reason why it's so cost effective. I also know carpers who swear by it for pre-baiting, fishing in the margins or spodding out to create a carpet.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think I need to be a little more positive with my feeding. I should also try a few sessions with stewed wheat as my only bait. It's amazing how this once popular bait has fallen out of favour when as your video shows it's very effective. Even as a change bait, it picks out the bigger stamp of fish in your swim.

Wow, I would love to try using any bait if I could fish for mahseer! A dream fish not available in the UK. However, I am lucky enough to be heading to Thailand soon, as a 50th birthday gift to myself, and hope to catch some exotic (for me) and monster-sized fish there...
