RIVER CALDER FISHING WAKEFIELD - CHUB TROUT PERCH - VIDEO 47

RIVER CALDER FISHING - With the two recognised barbel pegs already occupied we headed down river looking for one of the few remaining pegs we both could fish. Unfortunately the flow of river was too slow for barbel so we later headed back up river only to find the two best pegs still occupied. Rather than head back home we climbed over the wall of chantry bridge and fished a tight single peg between us landing a selection of small fish on heavy tackle.

would love too see a barbel come out of the Calder near Horbury to give me confidence too try it myself as I'm a local lad instead of going to the Trent once a week

Only ever fished the calder at chantry bridge but there are barbel there.

There are barbel at Horbury, seen them caught at Horbury bridge, also get a Mirfield AC book to fish their stretches of calder, some barbs there too, IF you know where to find them. though they are spread throughout all the way to Wakefield.

Interesting vid, Is the Calder around Chantry bridge free to fish(aside from a rod license) ? Are the best swims above or below the bridge? The river looks in good condition, it's amazing how the river has changed since I was a kid in the 80s, truly it shows how nature can recover when we stop polluting it. Thanks again for the vids

As far as I know from the weir above Chantry Bridge down to the lock entrance is still free fishing. First few pegs below Chantry Bridge are best if your looking for barbel, had a good session on stick float too in these pegs but are popular with other anglers.

@@ukfishingvlog cheers, I work right on the river, across from the ruddy duck, and plenty of people fish around the bridge.When it first started holding fish again back in the 80s it was good down near half moon lake, I was thinking about roving up and down the bank between the bridge and half moon just to try out as many swims as possible, is it true people have caught the odd barbel or just rumour? That would be great news for the river...

I had two barbel sessions five years ago in the first two pegs below Chantry Bridge had a barbel out each time just going into darkness around 6-7lb. The last time I tried to fish these two pegs was in this video unfortunately the first four pegs below bridge were already taken and had to fish for smaller fish on heavy tackle. Night fishing recommended.

The Canals River Trust Reference to No Free Fishing Refers to having to have a Rod License to fish and also pay for membership or a day ticket from Fishing Clubs which own the Fishing Rights. There are stretches of rivers in the UK of which no Fishing Club Own the rights to fish Hence free Fishing. The River Dearne, River Don and River Trent have such stretches where Fishing Clubs don't Own the Rights and are free to fish providing the Land Owners don't object. This stretch of the River Calder when filmed from Chantry Bridge to the Aire and Calder Canal down river was and i believe is still free fishing. Lol. Thanks for watching and Tight lines
