It’s a beautiful car! It looks better than Tesla! I believe this is the only company with the potential to compete with Tesla in the US market (excluding Tesla FSD).

If rivian announced you could buy an FSD license to run on their vehicles it would certainly make the R1S more attractive. It's the only non tesla EV worth considering because it has a unique form factor that tesla doesn't sell (yet)

I wouldn't count on that :) VW is in trouble, Rivian is more a case of is there a theoretical way they could survive.

R2 is over content and high complexity. No way they will bring cost down.

Common sense dictates that selling the R2 at a much lower cost would require less features and less quality. Some might say volume will bring the cost down. This company has shown repeatedly that they cannot do it. Now with the EV credits gone soon.. the actual r2 will cost closer to 55k+.. So not so much volume.

The financial books of many EV manufacturers do not add up. Tesla appears to be the only car company, legacy ICE vehicles included, that has solid financial numbers and can stand unsupported on its own feet. I feel that Rivian will become an ‘also ran’ when the history of the switch to EVs is eventually written. Rivian is not alone. Many of the Chinese car companies are money pits living on borrowed time and massive state subsidies. At some point the rubber has to meet the road.

Most of their buyers do not qualify for the tax credit so if Rivian lost the credit it wont hurt them, also realize that the credit is only $3,750 on a Rivian if you purchase and $7500 if you lease.

Pretty strange for VW to waste billions on Rivian when VW is in serious trouble. And Rivian doesn't just have 6bn, Rivian also has 5.5bn in debt. Could be more now. So that 18+bn$ they got from investors have been burned and that's just bizarre. To me that doesn't make sense for having developed 2½ vehicle. And yes it does seem rather strange they can make all the losses disappear from one quarter to the next after having failed so solidly for years. And they haven't started spending on R2 yet, have they? so that seems problematic in itself.
