The R2 is absolutely beautiful. It looks like it strikes the right balance between performance, range, and capability with a real emphasis on outdoor recreation. As much as I love my Mustang Mach-E, I’m always bumping up against its limits as a real crossover/SUV not to mention, by 2026+ charging speeds should be appreciably improved which should make the R2 a very nice option as a replacement vehicle.

Three different KZbin reviewers of the R1S report that camp mode malfunctions halfway through the night and they are left with no heat or AC. The average consumer has never been able to afford an EV. As prices come down, that will change.

My question for these newer EV companies is why not start with the more affordable line up instead of 80k+? Are they just copying Tesla? My Rivian and Lucid stocks need some answers!
@MrWuggles6 ай бұрын
There's more money to be made per dollar spent the more expensive a vehicle is, particularly when a company is relatively new and still figuring our their manufacturing processes. Rivian already loses thousands for every vehicle they currently sell, so to be able to get as close to recouping those costs as possible is their main prerogative. Now that they've been at it for a bit and know more about how they do what they do, they can focus on expanding to new markets like affordable EVs. Just like the earliest cars, computers, and smartphones, it has to be expensive to prove it can work before it can be cheap.
@shbdhd6 ай бұрын
I'm no EV company exec or engineer, but I would imagine development and tooling costs mean they must start with the more expensive, higher margin product. When the production lines are established, and economies of scale are in play, they can at least save costs by reusing components or by tweaking the lines to produce what they need. At least that's how I make sense of that.
@orenmk19736 ай бұрын
I would say however that if we got rid of all the fancy electronics and features and made a stripped down , basic model that someone could afford , it could be developed cheaper and sell and make small amounts of money and then invest that into the higher end products … I don’t need tents , I don’t need flashlights … basic screen and CarPlay … they won’t get money I don’t have to spend .. but I would give them my basic entry level money … now however , it might go to some one else (not that they really care about my money
@xipalips6 ай бұрын
@@orenmk1973 Eliminating those features aren't going to result in a significant price cut.. Those are neat, relatively inexpensive features to develop that draw people in within that price segment. The majority of the cost is already in the actual car you want.

Smaller, maybe. Definitely not small. The R1S, Cybertruck and F150 Lightning are just humongous. As for 1980s styling, this is expected. Twenty years ago 1960s-styled PT Cruiser, New Beetle and New Mini were concieved to cater to the tastes of aging boomers. Now when boomers are dropping like flies, it is the Gen X to milk. @TinLeadHammer6 ай бұрын
What is wrong with Tesla? They make good-looking cars, not boxy SUVs (X and Y are technically trucks I suppose). Tesla cars still look fresh and S3XY, no need to change the looks. Tesla constantly updates its cars under the skin: motors, batteries, control system, telematics, etc. They meet modern safety regulations. I wished Model 3 was a hatchback, but Model Y is a good enough substitute. Two of my friends just bought a Model Y, one of them already had Model 3 in the family. Tesla's Supercharger network is the best, this is a big factor in considering an EV.

Honestly, who would buy a car from a company that may not be in business in a couple of years. Only EV cultists looking for a poor transportation solution would be this car, which will never be much of a thing. A person would be better off buying a Toyota hybrid system that has been the thing for 20 years.
