If Rivian is listening I love the idea of the charge port being on the passenger side for street charging, but PLEASE move it to the front, that makes it work with current superchargers and when towing 👍
@AnonymousFreakYT
@AnonymousFreakYT 7 ай бұрын
Yes this. I know they said they put it in back for cost savings (on the single-motor versions, all HV is in the rear, so they save on HV wiring cost keeping the charge port in the back.) But front just makes sense for towing. Especially with the current setup of Rivian Adventure Network towing stalls!

I believe street parking is 220/240 volts AC, so proximity to the car’s converter is important. However, Rivian also needs to think about its potential markets, as well as cost of repair in the event of a front-end collision. The R2 has good potential in the UK, Australia, NZ etc, so if front quarter panels are designed for NACS and CCS2 in Left and Right Hand Drive Markets, they should do well. Either way, the charge points need to be designed for CCS2 outside of North America, even if they are configured for NACS-side charging. So front right seems to be the best option all round, if towing is considered.

Nah. Just put a port on both sides of the back. Solves pretty much every issue with charger placement, and doesn't contribute significantly to costs.

What did you think about the port location? Do you want to carry around a bulky extension that can be lost or stolen just to charge on the largest network on the planet that consists of V3's with short cables? And will still be the case for many years to come? Or would you like it to be moved to the proper driver's side rear?

Back left is stupid. Front passenger is the way. Head in charging with a bike rack/trailer works. Curbside charging is way better. Front keeps cord more out of the way for passengers getting in and out. Frunk is ideal location to store adapters etc while those are still necessary. Still compatible with supercharger network and it's incredibly short sighted short cables. Speaking of cables, you can't carry around an extension for a liquid cooled cord.

@nevco8774 definitely true that Fisker and Lucid look nicer. The problem is that Fisker is already on its way out the door with production difficulties and lack of money. Lucid, like Tesla in the past, is burning through cash due to cost of manufacturing and only being propped up by their Arabian partners. Saving time in manufacturing saves money, which is what Tesla is doing at the moment. Hopefully after Tesla releases the cheaper next gen car will they then focus on alleviating the extreme minimalism in their more expensive lineup.

Charge port location - Front, passenger side fender between the front wheel and bumper. That is the one place where it can charge on all available public DC chargers right now. the problem with its location on the R2 (now) is that for those of us in areas that get a lot of snow/ice, that area will be iced/snowed over, making it difficult to get the charge port door open.
@AnonymousFreakYT

That’s the odd thing about moving into the rear - Rivian’s own RAN charging stations almost all have a “double length” stall for vehicles towing - but they’re all designed expecting the charge port to be at the front of the vehicle. An R2 towing would need to disconnect the trailer and back in.

Remember, $45k is the starting price for the most basic version / trim. So that minimally means only 1 motor in the rear, so no sub-3 second to 60mph, smallest battery pack which means less than 300 mi range, and whatever other feature they decide on to be an option. Bottom line, just with any new vehicle, one has to cut thru all the sales/marketing hype and be realistic on what they will include vs option and what you want/need included in the vehicle. E.g. I don't care about sub-3 sec to 60mph, but I do care about range and AWD because I live in the north where we get snow, so RWD is off the table. What would those few requirements translate to? Certainly more than $45k as Kyle alluded to in the video. So if you adjust your expectations and factor in those costs, whatever they happen to come out to be, you lessen your disappointment to even paying what you factored in.... beyond $45k.
@overnightclassic2
@overnightclassic2 Ай бұрын
@@EmmyJune212008 You do realize the Tesla looks like a cost cutting exercise because that's how you actually make one of these things for $45K? Rivian is literally not able to turn a gross profit on any of their $100K evs, so what makes you think a $45K EV will do that? Tesla has a mega price advantage over competitors in production, and if that's what their $45K EV looks like, that's the best you can build for this price. Plus this car has so many inefficient things like 21 inch wheels, square shape, etc. No chance it will get anywhere close to the efficiency of a model Y which means you will need a very expensive battery pack to achieve 300 miles of range. With an EV these days you don't want less than 240 miles of range. It can be an inconvenience to reach certain charging stations with a range that low

I'm so excited for the R2. I followed the R1S all the way up to its release, genuinely believing I would be driving one as soon as there was a delivery available for me. Then they announced the price, and I was soul-crushed. I've driven Jeep Grand Cherokee sized SUVs my whole life. They fit me and my lifestyle perfectly. Sadly, the R1S doesn't fit my bank account, so I had to be satisfied just owning stock in the company. I placed my deposit on the R2 within the first couple of minutes of the unveiling. I WILL be driving one as soon as they have a delivery available for me. In the video, you asked what we'd like to see added to/changed about the R2 and that Rivian would be paying attention to the feedback. I'm also a dog person, so on top of the suggestion of B pillar or rear seat roof line vents, I'd love to see that back window have the ability to be opened partially, not just fully up or fully down. My dogs 100% would leap out that rear window at the first sight of a squirrel or deer. Or another dog or person, or whatever they felt they just HAD to go say hello to. It's great the rear windows pop out, but to have those out AND the rear window open enough for their heads to stick out (but not their whole bodies)....well, that's just dog heaven. I'm excited for the R2, and I'm excited for Rivian as well. They're knocking it out of the park with their entire lineup, and I can't wait to see them turn their first profits and find long term success as a manufacturer.

Reservation holder here: My one complaint, PLEASE MOVE THE CHARGING PORT TO THE OTHER SIDE! If it has a "NACS" it really needs to be on the other side. I'm currently an apartment dweller. We have a couple charging posts in the complex, but I mainly need to rely on 72Kw "URBAN" chargers once a week or so and having the charge port on the wrong side just would be such a pain, not to mention road trip super charging. Thanks Rivian and Out of Spec!

Front left and back right (OR front right and back left?)…. Two ports, allowing an option for how to charge based on your individual parking situation. Tesla has two charging ports on certain models [Edit: No they don’t, I was mistaken], Rivian should be able to do it also. [I was mistaken on the part about Teslas having two charge ports, they do not. My point still stands that I think EVs should have two charge ports though]

I'm pretty confident that I will be getting an R2 within the next two years. Things that would alter that decision: -If the dual motor version of the R2 significantly exceeds the price of a Model Y (by more than $8k) -If there are any battery pack reliability issues that surface (the pack is the most expensive part) -If there are any reports of the ride being harsh (I need something smoother than the Model Y, my dogs get stressed by car rides) -I also really want Carplay support since it's simple to implement, but I don't think it's a deal breaker.. Will just have my phone on the dash.

Level 2 AC ports on each side is super easy. And keep in mind that all large cities have their residential areas with one-way streets, such as my native NYC, where people park on both the right and the LEFT SIDE. So the passenger side port argument is utterly useless. Unless you want people fighting to only park on the right side of the street. Tell me about how's that going to turn out in a major city like NYC where you already have to fight for ANY parking spot.

Tow option with decent tow capacity (enough to pull a 20 ft boat or approx 5000 lbs). Infrastructure Needs/wants to make the switch to Rivian less scary: 1. Expand service options in Canada (Ontario). 2. Well placed Rivian adventure network chargers along the 400 series highways in Ontario.

A general Rivian thing (and cars in general): MORE PHYSICAL BUTTONS!!!!! I want to be able to keep my eyes on the road and operate the climate controls (at the very least) by feel, like I do in a Toyota Camry. Stereo would be nice too. An R1L sounds nice-I agree about the rear looking a bit cramped in terms of cargo space-a Suburban/Ford Excursion competitor would MOVE (especially in the face of the Escalade IQL). When its time to get into the cut-away sector (fire trucks, ambulances, etc.), there's already a perfectly made platform just begging to be re-used. The Italdesign Columbus has more than a bit of Rivian styling in the front and looks rather like an R1S/R2 hybrid at the rear, and the elevated center driving position is useful (the space underneath can be used for cargo instead of V12, or pack all of the battery upfront so you have completely bare frame rails at the back). It even had a marketing plan that might seem familiar-start as a luxury model and work down towards mass-market. It would make for one HELL of a party/executive limo.

If Rivian is listening, please make sure that the R2 has the following important features: 1. Digital rearview mirror instead of a conventional one as it significantly improves visibility. 2. B-pillar and center console air vents with a separate screen in the rear center console for tri-zone climate control. B-pillar vents are not only necessary for dogs but also for humans as center console air vents alone are ineffective. 3. Heated and cooled seats in both rows or at least heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats. 4. Reclining rear seatbacks. 5. Heads-up display is extremely helpful. If Rivian can add most or all of these crucial features and still keep the price around $45,000, I guarantee that I and thousands of other people will eagerly buy the R2 as the Rivian R2 is the electric Subaru Outback that everyone needs.

I already reserved R2 when it was first unveiled so looking forward to getting one. Already own Genesis Electrified G80 with charging port in middle front which should allow easy connection with Tesla Supercharger with NACs adapter. Also own Kia EV9 with charging port rear passenger side which will probably require blocking two spaces NACs adapter for both should be arriving in 2025 so I will see how well each works next year.

Then for backward compatibility, include an NACS to CCS as a short extension cable. I've been using the Tesla Full Self Drive and from a skeptic person, it's quite impressive. If this is going to be adopted as you said, there's no reason to not get the R2 over anything. An option for the phone charger... as a vertical slide in? Hold in place better.
