I’ve been watching your videos for a short time Bob and previously not been interested in turning at all. But I’m now converted. Going to get me a lathe and whatever I need to get me started in pen turning. You are an inspiration my friend and also the reason my bank balance is going to take a massive hit. Must go now as I’ve got more of your videos to watch. 👍

@@RJBWoodTurner Bob: Tried the pop can on a small key fob. Came out really nice. I finished with teal oil, to bring out the grain on mixed wood, and then used bees wax for the buffed finish. Looks good. Thanks again for all the info.

I like this pen. Thanks for the video. I thought the pen was going to be made entirely from denim. After watching the vid, I was wondering if a long strip of denim as wide as the pen is long, glued with CA to the tubeand wrapped around it by rolling it around the tubes and soaking with thin CA and leaving to set. This is the way I thought the vid was going. I am learning a lot from your turning. Well done.

It turned out great Bob. I notice you always use ca glue to glue your barrels in. I always use epoxy for that..... I know in more recent videos like the twig pen video and another one when they had pieces come out around the barrel.... Do you think epoxy would have made any difference in what happened. I’m not criticizing, I’m just curious on your thoughts of epoxy vs ca glue in this specific instance. Also I think I might get some negative rake carbide blades for my Easy Wood Tools as they work extremely well on synthetic blanks and thought I might give them a try on some blanks similar to what you have been doing lately. All the best. Ron

Hi ... I'm new on this and sorry for my ignorance and my english !!. You say you have to sand the glue. But, before putting the glue on the wood, it is not necessary to sand the wood? If the wood is scratched, do not these scratchs remain under the glue?
@RJBWoodTurner6 жыл бұрын
Hello Daniel, You will need to sand the wood before applying the glue. I usually sand to either 400 or 600 grit depending on the wood. I apply 5 coats of thin then three to four coats of medium. Once cured, I use micro mesh and sand to 12,000. I finish up with a buffing wheel or PlastX polish. Regards, Bob
