Somi has been in the industry for such a long time. She was in sixteen with twice and went to produce 101 and won first place and debuted with IOI (with chungha). Furthermore she was in the final lineup for itzy but decided to leave since it was taking too long to debut. Afterwards she made her way to the black label which is under yg. One of the crazy things about her is that she used to be bullied in school because she was half korean. Some would even refer to her as mut. I think it truly shows that no matter how pretty you are people will always judge so we should all focus on ourselves and ignore toxic remarks...❤

We don’t exactly know the real reason why she left JYP. ITZY literally ended up debuting before she did, so that’s not the reason. Their were even predebut concept photos of her and ITZY(minus Yuna). Personally, I think after IOI disbanded, and she did that Unnie’s TV show and that DeepBlueEyes variety show with other idols, she realized she wanted to be a soloist instead (and JYP doesn’t really debut soloist from scratch). It would allow her to do more of what she wanted to do. She left JYP in August of 2018. ITZY debuted February 2019. It obviously was pushed to that date to incorporate Yuna as the final member but they were definitely in the final stages of getting ready to debut the group when she left.

@@iskrenivanov8153 I’m fairly sure they’re talking about the delay after Somi left. They were following JYP’s usual schedule. Miss A was 3 years after Wonder Girls. ITZY was going to be 3 years after TWICE but was delayed due to Somi leaving. Somi and ITZY minus Yuna had literally taken concept photos and were constantly seen hanging out as 5. Their debut was imminent but was delayed after Somi left. They were in the final stages and they have no idea how long it may take to set that all up again. When a company scraps a debut or delays it, they usually don’t inform the trainees as to why or when it may happen again. Thankfully it was relatively soon (about 6 months after Somi’s announcement). If Ryujin and Yeji hadn’t also appeared on TV shows and had pre-debut promotions, it likely would’ve been delayed longer.

Somi is a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo hence those perfect high kicks!!! She was bullied in school for being mixed and the taekwondo helped her through it.

“Anymore” is such a beautiful song from Somi. A ballad of sorts. “What You Waiting For” is another fun song with those extra sounds that get you hooked. Like the whistle sound in one of the viewed videos.

She's half-Dutch Canadian, half-Korean...The police officer in the XOXO video was actually her dad 😅...and yes she has a black belt in Taekwondo. She and her dad are fitness buddies, they work out together...there was even a Korean show comparing their abs 😂 She was a JYP trainee before she signed with THEBLACKLABEL, managed by Teddy Park, BLACKPINK 's producer. THEBLACKLABEL is still a subsidiary of YG ENTERTAINMENT so technically she and BLACKPINK are labelmates. BP and Somi are super supportive, hyping each other's releases

She's been in the industry since she first appeared at age 14 on Sixteen. She was incredibly popular after her appearance on SIXTEEN and she followed that up by appearing on Produce 101 at age 15. She then debuted in a temporary group called IOI along with Chungha. So yes she and Chungha used to be in the same girl group and at the time, the group rivaled Twice and Blackpink. They were incredibly popular. Once that promotion ended she was preparing to debut in ITZY but left JYP before their debut. She joined Teddy Park's The Black Label (Big Bang, 2NE1 and Blackpink's producer) in 2018 and her solo debut was in 2019. She's done a lot and she's only 22.

Somi was also technically in another temporary group which was together for one release and was formed on the show "Sister's Slam Dunk". In the show they form a group, "Unnies", with actual artists (like Somi and Minzy from 2NE1) and also people who have basically no experience in the area like comedians, actors and models. They then train together for a bit, get someone to make them a song (on 1st season it was JYP, 2nd season ) record and release it. They then hold a debut stage which is also their last stage. Sister's Slam Dunk has 2 seasons, she was on season 2. Def recommend everyone to watch it, its very sweet and funny plus you can find it fully subbed on KZbin!! :')

(later it was revealed that she was originally in the lineup for itzy). fans and knets were starting to be REALLY harsh towards her bc of the long wait + many stopped supporting She joined TheBlackLabel (basically a company under yg) and debuted in 2019! to be very honest birthday was not very loved by a majority of fans back then so she faced some blacklash. She made her first comeback a year later with ‘What You Waiting For’ and she got her first ever win!! In 2021 she made her comeback with ‘Dumb Dumb’ and everyone fell in love with her again, she got 1 win with it but it was played everywhere and she followed that popularity by releasing ‘XOXO’ just 3 months after it with her first ever full-length album! sorry this was so long but as someone who follows her since her early days i have a very soft spot for her 😭🫶🏻 she has a reality show on ytb called ‘I Am Somi’ it shows a bit about her journey from debuting up until dumb dumb if i remember correctly! it also has a entertaining side to it since its somi so i totally recommend if u want to get to know her! 🫶🏻

So talented and funny. She was in I.O.I from the first Produce season and was semi supposed to be in Itzy but then left JYP to the Black Label, which I think for her was the best choice. People can complain all they want about YG/Black Label spaced out releases but her personality really gets to be flexed and music she wants to do. You should def check out her other singles like What You Waiting For and Anymore. You could honestly check out I.O.I as well, they didn't have as many songs as other Produce/Planet groups since it was the first season so their contract was much shorter than IZ*ONE's and its like a double explore since you have checked out a lot of Chungha as well.

Somi was voted #1 in the first season of Produce 101 and was the center of IOI and is still the Nation's Center. She was a JYP trainee but left to join The Black Label as a soloist. She is extremely famous for her outgoing personality, friendships, and skills in variety. She's really more of a variety personality and CF star than idol. You can see her all over variety shows online and on TV even though this is her first release in 2 years. In DUMB DUMB she was imagining approaching him. Only the one at the end was real. Same for XOXO. In Korea a pretty and popular girl like Somi is considered an Innsa (Insider) and it doesn't relate to negative behavior like bullying. I know what you were trying to communicate with that popular girl movie reference BUT it'd be better to not automatically classify a pretty and popular girl as a b*tch character based on an old stereotype. Same with saying she's the type girls would be jealous of. Those kind of generalizations are not helpful and push a negative stereotype as well.

I would definitely recommend Outta My Head from her! She has composing credits on it and it's such a chill bop. No MV unfortunately, though :( Also, she used to be insecure of her voice during/after her IOI days. Her voice stands out a lot so she tried to make it blend it in more (she talked about this on the show Unnie's Slam Dunk where women from different areas of the Korean entertainment industry come together to form a temporary group. Love that show to bits.) I feel like she has started finding her sound a bit more, and I couldn't be happier for her :')

i love somii, im so happy she finally had her label, i just wish they would give her more opportunities to prosper. she was in sixteen, then in produce 101 where she debuted with I.O.I, then joined the variety show sister's slam dunk and joined 'Unnies' then almost debuted with ITZY but somehow she didn't and Yuna debuted instead. to finally having her own label as a soloist, but since it's YG, she only gets 1 comeback per year so it's like self sabotage, plus the promotions are so bad.
