Ok so basically i’m pretty sure Hoyeon (the girl acting in Cool With You) was like Eros in the sense that she could make people fall in love, but in the process she falls in love with a human herself, Micol. However, nobody can see her. So she keeps her eyes on Micol so that he doesn’t fall in love with anybody else she looks at. The only way she can be seen is if she is seen in the rain. She does it at the end up Side A, and her and Micol get together. But I’m assuming what seems to be her higher-up comes to find her in Side B. He makes Micol fall in love with another woman, and Hoyeon returns to her invisible form, forced to see her love turn eyes to somebody else while she is also reminded of her job of making people fall in love.

the painting is called Cupid and Psyche by François-Édouard Picot. So the mv revisited this story with a gender-bender/alternative ending kinda vibe. Really creative and beautiful and a lovely nod to past art like the painting and Greek mythology. As a goddess, she has made people fall in love without ever being aware of what it feels like. She's jaded, just going about it like a person goes to work. But then she sees the painting and hears from the museum tour guide (Danielle) the story of Cupid and Psyche. So she becomes entranced with the idea of possibly experiencing it herself. I think her standing in the rain is a symbol of her shedding her immortality to become a human for love. But side B is about the human nature of living within reality, not being completely in control of spiritual forces like love. Would you give up being able to control love just to experience it?

@@soobub They could be anything, really. Most likely they could be Erotes. They are winged gods associated with love and are under Aphrodite's retinue (aka. Her servants). They are seen as young boys or babies with wings. Throughout the MV they follow Hoyeon, keeping an eye on her presumably under The Old Man's (Aphrodite's) order. Based off of this we can interpret NewJeans dancing at the end of the MV as The Old Man's way of taunting Hoyeon for wanting love. In this context, NewJeans serve as antagonists in the story. Or they could be Muses. They are seen as personifications of song, dance and literature. The disney movie, Hercules, has their version of the muses have 5 members, and they serve as the narrators of the movie. Maybe this could apply here as well? (I doubt it though).

This MV based on the Greek mythical story of Eros and Psyche, Hoyeon's role with a good performance representing Eros and a male actor representing Psyche. Eros, who was hard at falling in love with others, falls in love with Psyche, but there is a scene in which Lieung, the role of Aphrodite who hated Psyche in the myth, interferes. And it's my interpretation and opinion on this MV N the 5 members of Newjeans who are watching this can be interpreted as Five angels! the real ANGEL. haha ADOR MIN HEE JIN N MV director Shin has made a magical piece~~!!

cool with you is a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she starts wanting love for herself too and fell in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (confirmed when hoyeon looks in the mirror and she has no reflection) at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human; this is her own way of striking herself w cupid's arrow. side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because her clothes changes from an ethereal, flowy black fabric to regular human-like clothing, and people can now see her-- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoeyon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video, with a deep meaning and a retelling of mythology. everyone wants love and deserves love, whether they are human or otherworldly deity/being

ASAP to me is too short, but still I like the direction of the song. a lot of their songs on the album features UK garage mixed with jersey club/euro beats- its genre bending. but ASAP is a different feeling. to end off the album, they gave us a funky but soft song with multiple beat changes. its different to all the other songs and following get up's change of pace; it worked perfectly. i love it. im sure after more listens you'll grow to like it

If we pay attention to why "get up" sounds at the beginning of the right side of the earphone, it is because it is telling you to follow the song, basically its like looking for where the music is coming from, and that is reflected when the actress in the credits walks to the end of the hallway but when the music of new jeans sounds on the right side of the earphone, the actress also hears that and decides to follow the music, in the scene it is clearly seen that she turns to the right following the song, and when she meets the source of the sound, that is new jeans, that is when we hear the song completely from both earphones.... yeah, it's awesome how they play with all our senses in the new jeans MVs hahaha 🤭

Tony Leung seems to play Aphrodite, calling back Cupid (or Eros) to her duty by making Psyche forgetting everything about his loving memories of Cupid. If you enjoy the painting, it's called "L'Amour et Psyché" by François-Édouard Picot. The symbolism is pretty cool in certain scenes: - Cupid getting naked, she discards her clothes as she abandons her godly/angelic nature to appear to Psyche's eyes - Aphrodite erases Psyche's memories of Cupid at a pedestrian crossing, when Cupid tries to get to her lover, she literally crosses from the human's world to her former one.

If you want more understand mv for Cool With You, you need read mythology about Eros and Psyche. Hoyeon(squid game girl) is Eros/Cupid, this human guy was Psyche and Tony(silver hair) was Aphrodite/Venus. I think they just change the ending cuz they want this story more painful or sad ??? Don’t know but for sure that paint on the back is about them

the way i understood the mv is that hoyeon is sort of like a cupid? she makes people fall in love. and she starts falling for the guy who can’t see her and she’s absolutely fascinated with him. newjeans are watching her concerned since she isn’t allowed to love humans and they also take a role of a “greek chorus” who kinda act like narrators. and at the end of the first mv she takes off the clothes which make her invisible, that’s why when she’s wearing normal clothes he can see her and they probably have a relationship of sorts? and tony leung seems to be like an equivalent of a “higher up” among the mythical beings which forbids hoyeon from loving the man and makes it so he can’t see her anymore and her presence makes him fall in love with the other girl

I see a pattern developing based on Newjeans last 3 videos. Far from them being angels, seams like they are fallen angels intent on ruining relationships and causing havoc. First in Super shy they cause an accident by dancing in the bus and cause a marriage proposal to go south then in Cool with you, we know what happens there and now in ETA. I can't wait to see ASAP.

@@Jazzfreak7501 I was just trying to be funny... however there are double meanings in some of New jean's videos. As in "Cool with you" even though the story is from the Greek mythologies about forbidden love... it also could apply to prohibitions that exists in old cultures about inter racial relationships. The father figure disapproving of the relationship between her daughter and an opposite race interfering and ending the relationship could also apply to the story specially when considering that the male figure was black and clearly form a different race and culture. I think it is a good thing that Newjeans have introduced a new dimension to the current Kpop culture and they are clearly distinguishing themselves from other girl groups. One thing for sure, we never know what they will come up next.

When I first saw Asap's teaser, I was looking forward to what it would be like, but after listening to it fully, I was disappointed. The part that was spoilt in the teaser was the best and most worthwhile part of the song, but it was still not enough. Specifically, the tickta tickta tickta part was building up and then suddenly sprayed like a ball being stabbed by a needle. And now I also understand why it's just a B-side and not a title =)))). No need to tell me about the genre of this song because I know what it is and have heard a lot about it :v. However, excluding Asap, this album is excellent; I love how they make these MVs and incorporate the stories into these MVs. My favorite songs are Cool with you and Get up, ETA, but unfortunately, Get up is just an interlude. Really hope the company rethinks and makes Get up long version.

im pretty sure that the tall girl in "cool with you" (Hoyeon) is supposed to be Cupid. She makes people fall in love and hold hands as it is shown, but nobody can see her bc shes not human. I think the painting they were looking at is a painting of Cupid and his wife Psyche, who is human, and in the mythology, Cupid shouldnt have fell in love with a human but he couldn't help it, so it was forbidden in a sense. Then we see that guy and Hoyeon looking at the painting, and Hoyeon takes the part of Cupid and falls in love with that guy(who is metaphorically 'Psyche', because hes just a human). In the end of side A, she strips to her "human form" so she can fall in love with the guy. And they do end up being happy for a while, until that unknown older man finds out about Cupid's wrongdoings (falling in love with a human), so to make things right he makes Hoyeon invisible again and erases the guy's memories of her(making him fall in love with another woman). thats just my theory, i hope im right about the mythology too. also, i think the New jeans girls are supposed to represent some sort of angels here? because they kept watching Hoyeon, maybe they snitched on her wrongdoings to the old man👀 sorry for the long explanation, i hope my theory is correct and cleared things up a bit. 😅

😩 Get Up would have been the best song on the album if they actually did a song for it! ASAP dis probably my favorite song. I’m not a huge fan of this comeback. Not a huge fan of the house sound. If they leaned more towards the jersey mix side I would of been all in. I agree though all the song didn’t have enough substance… 2 minutes is not enough.

Yes she indeed helped greatly with these genres get mainstream attention in the media which is why we’re starting to see more Kpop artists adopt certain elements of the sound due to the increase in trend popularity. Newjeans has a very nice take on this sound imo it suits them so well
