Amazing review! I learned a few things that I didn’t know which was great for me. I just got the black dial one pre-owned but practically new. I love the look and feel of it. I’m not the most knowledgeable person on watches but I know my way around and compared to the other bigger brands like Seiko, Orient and other similar styles at this price point, which are more well-known, this one really caught my attention because of its look. And now that I have it, the material & feel are great. I do get asked about the brand, and I do find myself explaining that it’s a micro brand and the story behind it which I know I wouldn’t get with some more well-known brands but again I love everything about it. Very happy that I got this watch.

I chose the formal black dial in case I get hauled before a Senate Sub Committee. The bracelet was very easy to adjust even with just 3 micro holes I was able to fit it. Not an easy task because I wear my watches above the wrist bone. It arrived very quick to the USA. I wrote them that the watch arrived and thank you. They answered back too. Good people!!

Excellent review John, The RLG is a really nice looking Diver. I especially like the Sapphire Bezel and the polished end links on the Bracelet. The C3 Superluminova is impressive. RLG have done a great job with the Odyssey. Regards

Great review. I have a blue one on the way and I"m very excited. Have you ever heard of anyone putting an additional 2 or 3 holes in the clasp for adjustment? Looks easy enough with even a rotary/Dremel tool. Seems like it would really open the clasp to find the right fit.

Hey mate, I've got one in my cart and nearly gonna pull the trigger. Can I get an update on how it's held up in the past months and if your general day to day experience with it? Cheers

My blue one looks beautiful. The iridescent sheen on the blue dial and shiny numerals just shouts quality. The bezel is extremely hard to turn though, very very stiff. Oh well I don’t use it anyway. Looks just a little small on my 7 1/4 inch wrist but maybe that’s because I’m used to wearing 42 and 44mm watches. I think for the price it is a no brainer for someone that wants a beautiful blue no date watch in the 39mm case. I think this watch and bracelet present as being worth 2 or 3 times it’s price. Well that’s my opinion anyway.

Brilliant review! Still fighting my snobbery. Any reason not to buy this watch and go for the well known brand names for less specs and higher price?

Thank you for watching Bojan. Glad you enjoyed it. The only thing to consider is the push pins rather than screw pins in the bracelet. If you don't mind that, its an excellent quality/value watch for the price. Regards, #WR4K

Still a tiny bit chunky for me; I wonder if they could get it down to 10mm with that movement? It has a total height of 6mm. Lovely review.

Thank you for watching Simon. Glad you enjoyed it. Reducing the thickness to 10mm would mean a thinner case back, and sapphire crystal; thus lowering the water resistance to 100 metres. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k I’d be happy to trade 100m of WR for a slimmer watch, kind of a budget ‘dress diver’. The Glycine Combat Sub seems to be the best (skinny) option at a reasonable price point.

@@simonbailey2151This is a late reply but though I have and love two Glycine Combat Subs (blue and gray dial)😒 and they are wonderfully slim this RLG strikes me as a very nice compromise with the smaller case diameter and the thickness only moderate. Much of that (somewhat thicker) watch comes from the domed crystal where the Combat Sub has a flat crystal. I think both watches look really good but I'm strongly considering the Odyssea for the size and refinement it offers as a contrast to the Sub.

May I ask a few simple questions please… I believe this is a uni directional movement, is it possible to accidentally over wind this movement? I thought it was not possible to over wind an automatic movement. If I’m hand winding it will I feel an obvious stiffening in the wind before it gets to a point of damaging it due to over winding. After how many years or running hours should it be serviced / lubricated. I guess the tiny amount of instructions presume the user already knows these things.

Thank you for watching. The Miyota 9039 is a unidirectional winding movement. It isn't possible to over wind the movement as it has a clutch mechanism which releases the tension in the mainspring. When the movement has stopped, 40 clockwise turns of the crown is sufficient to wind the movement fully. Alternatively wearing it 8-12 hours daily is enough wrist movement to automatically wind it via the unidirectional winding rotor. The 9039 should be serviced every 10 years, regardless of how much the watch is worn. However in practice it is more cost effective to replace the movement with a new one, rather than break it down, ultrasonically clean it, then rebuild it with clean lubricant and regulate it. The 9039 is equal in quality to the ETA2824-2 and SW200-1; although much less expensive. So they are viable to service, rather than replace with new; whereas the 9039 is more viable to replace rather than service. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k Thank you so much for taking your time to give me that information, very much appreciated. Calibrecorner shows this as being a uni directional movement. I don’t care if it’s uni or bi, I just hope that even if it is uni that it has a clutch to prevent possible over winding by hand. I presume if a bi has a clutch then a uni would also have a clutch. It would make sense to me that both would if one has. This is my first mechanical watch so I don’t want to destroy it. My other 8 watches are Quartz. I do like my Quartz very much but I thought I would get a nice mechanical watch too.

@@aussie8114 Apologies for the error. Yes, the 9039 is unidirectional (clockwise winding only). I have edited my previous reply. Yes, it has a clutch mechanism to prevent over winding. Another option to wearing it daily, or manually winding; would be to use a watch winder. See my Chyoda watch winder review. I highly recommend it. Regards, #WR4K
