rm used to have ‘rage & grace’ as his instragram bio while he was working on this album. the way you describe the album as having a first and second half reminds me of that. the first half is the rage and the second half is the grace. I never knew what his bio meant but after hearing the album I think ‘rage & grace’ really fits it well. glad you enjoyed the album! I love hearing your reaction and perspective, especially on the production.
@katkat12233 ай бұрын
Thinking about it, it's also how most of their concerts are: loud, energetic, angry, vocal until they get to the second half which is mellow, laid-back, nostalgic, comforting.

Apparently in the LOST! Video all of that was happening in his mind while he is performing on a late night show. The awkwardness and fake excitement of the hosts is meant to poke fun at the insincerity that he experiences when doing those types of things, but he knows it’s part of the grind. even if people don’t like or understand the music video or the song, they can’t deny how artistic and masterfully done it is! Thanks for the reaction as always!

Recently, I was diagnosed with depression, and RM has been helping me so much through his music. I learned to never look back because I did my best. I understood that it's okay to feel lost; don't be anxious, don't think negatively, just understand that it's part of the process. He would have wanted to be a poet if he hadn't become a singer, but his songs are like poetry. He has become my comfort artist 💜

Your reaction to lost was mine. This album had my little music nerd painterly self bouncing in glee. Inside Namjoons brain. ....😊Namjoon went to some great well respected people for his mvs but though he gave them freedom. For COME BACK TO ME THE AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR OF MEAT, gave the outline of what he thought Namjoon wanted to make him look good. Namjoon said no. I wanted you to do what you do and he rewrote the whole thing. RM knew exactly what he wanted whilst giving the people he collaborated with artistic freedom to stretch themselves. In RM INDIGO MAGAZINE DOCUMENTARY one of the producers described the process of working with RM as levelling up. Lost was directed by French man Aubie Perrie. Celebrated Sundance contributor. Nuts may have looked spontaneous but was also by the celebrated Pennaki. RM has cracked yhe code of how to collaborate with the most explorative artists giving artistic freedom but keeping complete control of his vision. PHARRELL, Tyler The Creator, Frank Ocean. BEETLES PSYCHEDELIA, AVANTE GUARDE JAZZ, BRIT GRUNGE, ETC... its all in there and so much more.

"RM makes me comfortable not being okay" this is right here one of the reasons why we ride for him (them). One of the best outtakes from the album, too. Thank you thank you for taking your time to really go through every track and give us your feelings, I appreciate you talking in depth of what music makes you feel a lot. Also, I hope we'll get a catarthic moment of waving hands to CBTM just like you described it, this song does scream closing song and everyone coming together to sing their hearts out. Also*2, loved you little synaesthesia moment, now I'm going to picture a little dot jumping around when I'll listen to this song 😅

FYI - RM worked with San Yawn from Balming Tiger. San Yawn is the founder, leader, executive producer, creative director and heart of Balming Tiger. He is responsible for conceptualizing, composing, producing, and distributing the collective's creative outputs. And RM featured on a song with Balming Tiger called Sexy Nukim. I highly suggest that you check it out. Also, San Yawn is the person who suggested that RM do an album before he enlists, because he saw that RM needed it. INDIGO was good, but RM needed to go deeper. And then they worked together on this, and he really grew and peeled off the layers he needed to before enlisting. He dug deep. I'm very happy for him, because this album is getting attention from many sources, and is being called a masterpiece. I highly agree. Also, something else that I noticed while looking at the credits. RM found his inner producer again. In the INDIGO interview, he said he realized he wasn't good at producing, that his writing is his strength. And in this album, he is credited as a producer on practically every track. So that makes me happy. Oh, and there is nothing wrong with thinking in colors. 🤍💜💙 My favorite quote from you today is: "this song is bubblicious man."

"I talk too much" NO!!! Your breakdowns and insights are great. And yes, the change from the first half of the album to the second half was intentional. So great that you picked up on it. RM said he was getting his anger and frustrations at the outside world out in the first half, while the second half was meant to be more introspective.

i don't comment on videos, but I just wanted to say I enjoyed this one. I grew up on African music and classical music then some pop then the pandemic hit and I found rock, fell in love with jazz, and then became an army. An album like this is not a mass-produced album for popular consumption. it's a think piece. Music makes you question, think, and find interpretations that work for you. music is many things sometimes you need an easy listen some times you need this. if there is one thing I love about BTS is that their music makes me think. "do I like it, do I not, what is this new sound what does this mean. this is interesting". I think they are the only artist I follow so far that does that for me. great video.

Your response “fuck yall” to Around the World in a Day is EXACTLY how I felt like goddamn why did you have to FUCK with me so hard on this track. It’s my favorite because of the multiple beat switches and Moses Sumney’s voice and god I listen to it like every day it’s so fucking good I cannot believe how amazing such a *simple* track on paper can be so incredible in listening. Like it doesn’t have a ton of instrumentation, etc but the choices they made in the composition of the song are so smart and I hate that it feels like they read me so well to understand exactly what I needed (not wanted, but needed) at this time. Also let me just say, I am one of those office workers who is constantly feeling lost and your analysis of Lost! made me expand on my own understanding of it, I really had only made a surface level analysis of the connection to the feeling of being “lost in the sauce” as you say and now that you mentioned it, it really does make me think about how I feel about my own job. I AM SO GLAD YOURE BACK REACTING, I MISSED YOU GREATLY BUT I AM ALSO GLAD YOU TOOK THE TIME TO GET YOUR SELF SORTED AND DID WHAT WAS BEST FOR YOU!! Looking forward to more reactions in the future :)

I didn’t know Moses before this album but he’s amazing! I think a lot of your responses remind me why so many people connect to BTS and RM’s music. It’s relatable but also uplifting but not in a cheesy way. Their music really empowers people to get through tough times. That’s why they are so loved and people go so hard for them. When you realize the hatred they get for just being loved and successful, it gets crazier. RM really threw away a lot of extraneous stuff in this album and really explored the music he enjoys making. It’s my favorite album of his and I am so happy to see him really go for it. Thanks for the reaction Hope you can check out Neuron by j-hope (I really think you will connect to the lyrics) and the Hope on the Street documentary on Prime at some point. So many things I can recommend but I will leave it there. I agree this album is a masterpiece!! Thank you for checking it out and providing your insight. Sending positive energy to you. 💜

It's been beautiful see Namjoon go from "I feel so lonely when I'm with me" in uhgood (a song from his 2018 mixtape mono, which I highly recommend) to "I'm feelin' so good here with me, feelin' so full here with me" in Heaven, because he has learned to love even the broken parts of himself and he's at peace with them. On this album being a classic, there was a quote from a review of RPWP that has stuck with me: "But let's think about it. How many people really believe that they are standing in the 'right' place in this world? That question makes us desire, wander, and suffer. However, being able to make someone feel beauty, arouse curiosity, and provide inspiration through that ordinary wandering is a privilege that only artists can enjoy. As always, the agony of the ordinary people is a part of daily life that will soon be forgotten, but the agony of an artist becomes immortal art."

I applaud Namjoon’s work ethic which is very apparent in this body of work, I love his commitment to embracing the risk of being a full out creative on this project and I am grateful he chose now, when he’s serving his country, to grace us with this because we can keep coming back to it for months on end and still discover something new and fresh. It’s a master piece! I hear so many influences and I appreciate that he is so diverse because this project would not have been what it is without him being open to so many other artists’ work. I hear (to name a few) Prince, DeAngelo, Cee-lo, Robert Glasper, The Roots, Childish Gambino, SiR, Tyler the Creator, Mac Miller, John Coltrane, Epik High, N. E. R. D./Pharrell, James Blake, K. Dot as far as being real and raw, and even a bid to Beyoncé as far as creativity and “new sounds” coming together in an unprecedented flow. I love this album so much. ❤

This type of synesthesia is often described by musicians and artists. --I googled the definition...it is a gift.

Its well worth tracing Namjoons journey right from the begining. Every project is completely different leading to this. It makes sense viewed as an artistic journey of exploration. dude the visuals you give to songs are so perfect loved the white room purple polka dot and the monster dragging their knuckles on the ground visuals in particular it's so funny seeing how you also just got mad at some point because of how good it was my first reaction to many of the tracks was to be like 🙄 who gave you the right sir you cant keep getting away with this specifically during the part in around the world in a day where the sudden electric guitar riff comes it my exact thoughts were "??huh??? ... i mean yeah this might as well also happen" lmao like after everything we've heard in the album, i had relinquished any thoughts or opinions or expectations by that point i was just along for the ride such a good album it scratches an itch in my brain i think my top 3 are tomodachi, interlude, around the world in a day but honestly it feels like a crime to not consume the album in its entirety every time the tracklist was made so intentionally that it feels wrong to jump around or throw a couple of the songs on a playlist also the cherry on top is credit roll. just the idea of it so fucking wholesome and cute and fun again, super entertaining watch! it's interesting to hear about the production details you catch

“Around the World in a Day” (and the whole album) is so damn good that I’m genuinely angry. This whole project was top quality from start to finish and needs way more recognition. And 50:23 states a huge reason why exactly I love it so much. Most artists, especially rappers, only talk on vague hopes for success, current riches, and struggles/failures but stray from the idea of being lost no matter your status or where you are in life. That’s rare and his execution is beautiful. He says “things are bummy but it’s all good, let’s live it out and suck it up” and we all can relate, but we can figure it out ourselves. Time will sort it out. Suga’s “Snooze” has the same theme, especially geared towards aspiring artists. I love it.

I interpret the lost video as it being a representation of the inner workings of his brain. The metaphor of office work suits the different brain functions precisely. You have parts where a creative process takes place, a archive, dark closets full of fear and a water cooler for nourishment or excess. The different actors in the same suit as RM can be seen as different parts of his personality. You have a problem solver/investigator, a fearful one, a child like enthusiastic one, etc. All aspects of RM help his chosen stage persona up to perform in the public eye. His performance is just as much a part of all the underlying processes that go on in his brain. The sometimes hot then cold presenters might be his harshest self critics. RM feels like he is stumbling through life with all the positives and negatives that come with it.

The unfortunate thing about RM's music is that the target audience (outside of ARMY) who'd LOVE his work, also is unlikely to ever find it or will likely not give it a shot. There is definitely a segment of music lovers who want the substance and want the risk takers and they want to hear someone who will give them what they feel is missing from a lot of mainstream stuff. But they'll be blinded by the boy band or kpop label too much to give it a true honest shot. It's a shame. But the ones who do go in with an open mind (like yourself) are blessed with so much to discover and enjoy. I wish more people would set their preconceived notions aside and just give it a try. Same with BTS. There is a lot of solid talent there and many people who'd love them would never find them.

Namjoon is the one who gives us talks and advice about life every time he can, in each live you can see him say "It's okay to make mistakes", or things like "Suffering and getting lost is part of life, but you can always change or move forward." ". He always seeks to dismantle what is most human and real about what it means to live, especially for him who is a very idealized and sometimes dehumanized person. I really admire his way of seeing the world and his way of communicating with us, his fans. , whether through their music, their live streams, a letter or whatever. He is an incredible being and I love him very much. I love seeing your genuine reaction, I send you a lot of love from Argentina 💜

Lost really is such a fascinating song and a great look into what goes in his head. When you think of RM and BTS's work day, you think of these superstars flying in planes across the world, practicing dance moves, going to photoshoots, shooting music videos, etc. The celeb life basically. But the Lost MV reminded me of two promotional videos RM did for Indigo. It was called 'All Day' and both videos showed 1 day in his life. He set up cameras in his home and had one that he could carry with him. I t was super chill and mostly normal, wake up, eat and watch tv, do some dishes, read a little, water some plants. Normal daily routine things that you'd do everyday. But in the second video, he's heading to work on his bike and while he's there, it kind of hit me that he's basically a 9-5 contract worker who happens to also be extremely famous and wealthy. Like his studio is his office but that space is where he spends hours writing speeches and lyrics, producing song, rehearsing for performances and speeches, etc. Even watching him sit there, it visually looked like he was sitting in a pretty, expensive, elaborate cubicle while he's in this locked room grinding. It's his "day job". That sense of a daily grind is still there but in a different packaging. And while our lives are nothing quite like his, he's able to use the idea of a corporate job to be the link that helps us see what he sees/feels. It's not a direct 1:1 but it's similar enough that we'd get it immediately. And I think that's what he likes to do. Take the ordinary and relatable and use it to make his unique situation easier to translate for the audience. While also making his music feel like something we can relate to.

Lost video is more deep then what you thing, it's how his mind is lost, coworkers you mention is him, in his moods, smart dumb vanity... Him going to perform at the show is the idol of him preforming and the other moods are seeing him from his head... Is so complected to explain... I hope you got the idea... And that's why this video is nominated for an important award in film production... Is art the song with the clip.. The idea the execution the theme the concept... Is so diferent from everything

no i LOVE your visual interpretation of all around the world in a day! i often see colors (and sometimes textures) when i listen to songs too so it's so interesting to hear what other people experience!!!
@Anaid_Rojas3 ай бұрын
Very little people talks about music in colors, and I could picture everything you described of the soul of this album, from the colors, the sounds, the scenes. As we exist in this life, no matter how lost we may be, as long as we have good music, we'll get through it. Its been such a journey to go throughout this album with you man, on to the next one we go!

Gameboy310, I mean this in the kindest way, please don’t ever shut up or pausing LOL. you kept saying it to yourself and I’m like nooo. Probably my favorite reactor. Like you actually appreciate the music, respect it, your analyzation and interpretation is amazing. It reminds me and probably others to be human when you start relating it to life. I hope RM comes across this one day. Also, I never want anyone listening to songs, especially bts music to say they liked every song just to say it. Like, it’s ok not to like a song but you can still respect it. You are awesome! Thanks for being you!

LOST! was a visual masterpiece, man. Just even the random screengrabs of the video is a movie/ tv production. It's brilliant.

Thank you again for another great reaction (and for giving me an excuse to have a work break! 😉😇) I appreciate you take the time to go back again and again to check lyrics and arrangements, etc. He definitely put a great piece of work together, with the little time he had before enlisting. I feel that he really had a lot in his chest that he wanted to get out before going in, and he pulled out one of the best albums I've ever heard. The fact that most of us can also relate to the lyrics in some way it's incredible to me.

Thank you for your video! I love this album so much. The LOST! video has been shortlisted for the 2024 Berlin Commercial Award in the category Craft: Cinematography. A jury of renowed experts will pick the winners on August 30. A couple of weeks ago Vimeo's staff named the video as one of the best short films on the internet. And RM is still growing...

The level of production, detailing and layering goes into RPWP is another level. The sound are experimental and different from one track to another, yet it weaved perfectly sonically. I believe this album is his most refined work. It’s truly inspiring and comforting. At first he show his rage and unfairness, him wanting to life as a slightly ordinary young man. And the later chapter two is where he accepted his reality and wing by it. What a man he is

RM takes inspiration from Pharrell for sure !! also Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean, he really likes them. This album holds a really special place in my heart, made me fall in love with music again. And i really like hearing your thoughts about it !!!! 🇧🇷

RM said he's full of contradictions - he likes privacy but also wants to be loud and social, he loves people but also wants to get away sometimes, stuff like that. love ur take on Heaven! i picked up on people trying to snatch his heaven but he can be centred amidst ppl trying to take him down. ur interpretation brought another layer to it!

You hear Pharrell's influence but I hear Balming Tiger's. After he did a collab on their song Sexy Nukim he worked with members of that group on this album. They are very quirky and experimental and interesting. I feel like they really tapped into a new level of creativity for him.

first of all .. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CHECKIN OUT LOST! (don't wanna say I told you so but I knew you were gonna like it lol I could yapp away about lost! 4ever) ~ rpwp is such a masterpiece. I kinda categorized this album as rage & love like the 1st half you can feel him talking his sht, venting & the 2nd half he toned down a bit, still talking sht but in the end he's pretty much like it is what it is & life goes on.. I can't wait till you check out his other album because he's a poet, a monster, a genius. And the rest of the gang too 💜🤟🏼 tysm!!

28:17 the coworkers are himself but different parts of him. Their nametag all say Namjoon. Namjoon had said that working on RPWP felt like learning how to make music again for the first time. His talent is expanding as he figured himself out 😌 he’s so good at being human.

This why I love your reactions. Simply by watching u watch it I understood a couple things he was trying to say in the video that I didn’t realize before. When u brought up the cubicles I realized he is possibly comparing his job (that most people think of as glamorous) to a normal cubicle job. He goes on the stage and does the same things and sometimes it does fell like a cubicle job. Then all the Namjoon name tags represents all his different selves and Personas (btw you need to listen to Persona!).

This is my favorite album/song reaction. I love when you get deep into the music, lyrics, meaning, MV,production, engineering, etc and excited about the music. It helps me understand and appreciate the art better. I form my own opinions, but albums like this deserve to be understood on a level past my understanding. I’m not a musician, singer, producer, etc. I knew I was missing a lot. Thank you and please keep talking. 💜

I believe this album was recorded at the Fish Factory Studios in London, a somewhat secretive recording studio famed for using "analog gear and a vast array of vintage equipment and instruments." You can see parts of the studio in his "Nuts" mv. Just as an aside, interesting you would see a purple ball! (Purple holds a huge significance for army!) Really enjoyed your deep dive! Borahae! 💜

Thanks for this reaction (including part 1). As an army Im clearly biased, but I don’t feel like I’m exaggerating when I say this album is the best album this year. (and for me personally one of the best albums I’ve heard in my life.) Hope you’re enjoying your weekend 💜
