In this video, Dr. May goes through a lot of sample questions that you can ask yourself in the process of using the skill of self-enquiry (asking yourself questions that can create more openness and flexibility when you are feeling closed).
**This channel contains videos of ALL the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Radically Open DBT skills, and much more! Check out the new series on Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which is currently being recorded. For updates and easy access to content, feel free to SUBSCRIBE.

These videos are so well done. You have a very personable manner, and that makes these complex topics much more approachable. Thank you so much for this RODBT series!

These are WONDERFUL. I'm a MSW intern doing my internship at a DBT/RO-DBT counseling center and these videos are a saving grace for me catching up quickly. I absolutely LOVE the session by session format - super helpful for going into these groups every week (for RO). Thank you!

thanks for producing these videos. i have strggled for so long i don't know when it started. i miss the ex wife and really just have the kids part time. it is my emotions that has hurt the relationship and ultimately broke it. at the start of your videos prior to power oint you 'appear' to have an aura, it reminds me of an angel. take care

Thankyou for that explanation at the start about the pronunciation of self-enquiry. Yes it is pronounced differently in the UK. I didnt realise it was pronounced differently over the pond. We pronounce it as en-CWY-ree. Thankyou for these videos! My therapist has recommended I listen to your videos as I can't attend the RO DBT therapy group at the moment due to having no childcare

Thanks for writing. Yes, over here, we probably would also spell it as “inquiry.” Although I also really liked the suggestion from one viewer to call it “self-curiosity.” Hope the videos will be helpful in your recovery. All the best! 🙏💕

My struggle with self-enquiry is that it sometimes leads to excessive rumination on my part. I guess you have got to keep it short and simple. Get in, get out.

Dr May a MASSIVE thanks. I am DBT trained, but really enjoy RO DBT, currently using it with a patient. These videos are extremely helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Do you have Twitter? G 😀

Serious question, is RO DBT appropriate for those with CPTSD?
@jennifermayph.d.2761
@jennifermayph.d.2761 Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I wouldn’t say it would be the main treatment of choice, It still has some nice skills that could help with things like social safety, relationships, emotional and cognitive openness.

Excellent series so far... really helpful stuff. I have a question though... What's this "handbook" that you've referenced several times? Would it be helpful to work through while learning from your videos?

Yes, the material is from the Radically Open DBT manual by Thomas Lynch. They sell it on Amazon.

I would start a practice of checking in with yourself throughout the day. Notice your body sensations, any tightness in your muscles or breath holding. Notice if you stay in your head thinking too much or do a lot of distracting and “keeping busy” to help you avoid feeling things too strongly. If you try watching more RO DBT videos and find yourself identifying with the “over controlled” coping styles described, that should help as well.

@@jennifermayph.d.2761 I am absolutely OC recovering from eating disorder... not the one that gets help. I'm only Ana 1/2 the time typical bulimic otherwise. Binge and fast over 45 years now. The longest relationship I've had.

That's tough. I'm sorry to hear you have been struggling with that for so long. RO DBT is definitely something that can benefit people with anorexia and overcontrolled patterns, so I hope you can get something out of it.

Seems like there's an assumption that the person is doing something wrong, always. That is invalidating for those cases where that's not true.
@jennifermayph.d.2761
@jennifermayph.d.2761 Жыл бұрын
That is true. But exploring what is happening through self-enquiry will help you become more clear as to what is happening and which parts of a situation do have to do with you. Try experimenting with this skill and you can discover for yourself.

Hi Dr. May, I really appreciate how well you have organized and presented the concepts of RO-DBT. Do you have a transcript available? I'd love to use the concepts with my clients. Dr. Diak, The Happiness Psychologist www.happinesspsychologist.org
