Road raged by another Karen | Triggered horse rider

I could not have passed these two any slower and they took isue with how "fast" I drove past them. Just like every other horse rider I've encountered on the roads, it's not possible to drive past any of them slow enough. They always want you to go slower. These two girls were propper triggered, claiming that it "sounded" like I was driving too fast.

(off-road) Horses coming towards me whilst cycling I stop and wait, if I'm coming from behind I slow right down and hold back, the rider will wave you past, I talk as I pass to reassure the horse. Simple, both smile and share pleasantries. (on-road) I ride slow if horses are on the other side of the road, if narrow I stop and wait. Coming from behind be careful they might not hear me, so I gently ring my bell wayback not, right behind in plenty of time, I wait for the rider again to signal me to pass safely, they know the horse better than I do. We exchange pleasantries as we pass. If I going to do a fast fun downhill I check for riders and others before I go.

I came across horse riders whilst riding my sports motorcycle which had a stock exhaust so not loud at low speed. I could tell that the horse riders looked alarmed so I turned off the engine and pushed my bike past the nervous people. I took my helmet off too so not to look like a scary alien. So I think that you are correct that any speed is too fast past horses which should stay off the roads.

I live on the top of a steep hill, on a primary route, cars come flying up the hill, blind until the summit. Some dozy bint stopped her horse slap bang in the middle of the road, (it's a narrow road with no where to swerve to,) to talk to someone who was on the pavement, didn't seem bothered she was blocking the road, and might get clattered by a vehicle that hasn't seen her, and wasn't expecting her to be sat in the middle of the road. Horse riders in rural areas, like where I live, do seem to think they own the place, the cammer said' you'd moan whatever speed I was doing', and he should have stopped stationary for the horses, that's true -------, he's onto something there.

Yep, had an ex girlfriend years ago like this, they all think they are far more important than other road users, I told her if a horse can't handle traffic it has no business on the road until it can, I had a farm so plenty of space to ride without bothering other users with a skittish horse. Need to get them used to cars tractors etc on private land first before the road.

Footage recorded with my phone doesn't dissappear until I delete it, though dash cam footage is overwritten within a week or two. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I've not ridden horses in a long time but from what i remember, her stirrups look too short (or maybe her saddle is too small? I can't really tell but something looks off with her seating position). Your heels are supposed to be in line with your hips and shoulders. This is taught in riding classes from day one for obvious reasons - how to sit on a horse. A little cheeky telling you how to ride your bike.

I'm a horse rider. Once, I was walking (with no horse) on a path and was about to cross a spooking horse. I just stopped, went to a safe distance and waited. The rider told me with a big smile I could cross her. I answered her horse wasn't safe enough. She got upset, told me a horse would never kick me. While we were talking, he kept spinning... impossible to cross him while staying away of his butt. She had to go away in order to let me pass.

It is a bit hard to judge given we cannot see what led up to their reaction… but given that, maybe I can shed a bit of light on why you want to slow early when you see horses along a road or trail- anatomically, horses going forward can only see what’s at their side. Their eye position doesn’t allow them to see behind them so they must fully turn to be able to see what’s there. If they don’t have a choice, they react to what they hear which means they will kick or bolt or perhaps spin and rear. It’s instinct. If you give them space in time to hear and adjust, then they don’t need to move into panic and protect. I do find it very disheartening on both sides of the issues of sharing lanes, roads and trails that there is such resistance to finding middle ground and respect for each other’s needs in enjoying such beautiful countryside

Hi I would like to start by saying I’m sorry you had this experience with horse riders we aren’t all like that. I would also like to say as a horse rider not all horses are fab on the road/ forestry and sometimes you may need to stop as horses are flight animals if they get spooked. I personally meet cyclists all the time on my horse and most of you are fantastic and extremely patient when training a youngster. I did have one chance encounter when a cyclist scared horse by accident I came off and horse bolted. I will forever be greatfull to the cyclist that went around the forestry and caught the horse and helped injured me get back on. I do hope the next horse riders you meet are nice and say hello.

Ok my opinion is that if the horses arent ok with bikes and cars etc. They dont need to go on the road. But for example if these horses were spooky and got rlly scared of the biker then i think the rider shpuld try to handle it but the biker needs to stop then the rider should get off and carefully walk the horse pasr the bike and not take the horse out again till its desensitized

I don't back up my dash cam videos (it would take a whole data center of storage) and at the time, I didn't think of saving the footage for later. You've olny got my word to take for it though, I gave them plenty of room (they weren't even on the road when I passed) and I was driving really slowly.

A few bridle ways but then you have to go on roads to get from one to another in most places. Even when there are organized rides it nearly always involves some road work. UK is not the best place to own a horse and have safe hacking. I did in the 1970s but wouldn't ride out now as there is too much aggression.

The only way to train your horse is getting them outside on the roads (common in the UK) and getting them used to loud cars and motorcycles. @@grey.mustang.official You have to progressively desensitize your horse outside. YOU ride a dangerous animal, so YOU must do your best to make you and other road users as safe as possible. If YOUR horse is still not well-behaved, YOU can't expect the other road users to adapt to you. They must keep readonable distances, and nothing else. Here, the horse can't even stay quite at stop: he's constantely moving. That's not the biker's fault. That's a lack of training. If such badic training is not achieve, the horse has nothing to do on a public space. Please note I'm a horse rider myself. And I would never endanger people because I feel like to ride in a public dpace a horse that I didn't train enough.

Excellent. Evidently there is one cyclist that slows down going past horses because I’ve seen fuck all do it. Bikes are silent and are upon the horse so quickly. The best thing to do is make some noise before approaching to warn horse and rider…………. and slow down.

Rider for 10+ years here. - Your horse shouldn't spook when other road users use normally the road. A car should pass your horse at a normal speed and reasonable distance without him moving an ear. - If you're afraid of your horse's reaction, get off the saddle and do groundwork. If you're afraid of your horse's reactions, why do you put other peopke in danger around him? TRAIN YOUR HORSE. - Yes, it's frightening to be on a spooking horse. But we wilingly decide to tide them. It's no one else business. The only thing we can expect from other road users, is slowing down or stopping when our horse has started to spook. Wich should be very rare, with a good training.

Bikes scare horses. That’s a fact. One reason riders ask cyclists to slow down is because many horses kick out when frightened. You’re risking your own safety if you don’t call out a warning that you’re behind a rider and then pass wide and slow. There are a lot of entitled Karen’s, but there are some pretty entitled Kevin’s out there, too.

yes, bikes scare horses so bad. I was out a rail ride in the mountains, and we could see the bikers coming going super-fast on a very narrow path with a steep drop off, so we waved and yelled for them to slow down and tried to get over, but they did not and swerved right in front of my friend's horse. The horse kicked out and the bike hit her leg and cut it. they were very sorry however later on we crossed paths with them again and they were going just as fast. Now every time a bike passes the horse shakes.

Some road users have priority over others (and as I explained in the video, I respect that) but no one has "right of way". Your use of that term demonstrates that you beleive you have more of a right to ride your horse than I do to drive my car. "1200 pounds of uncertainty" May I remind you that you have a duty to other road users to act in a predictible way. If you're uncertain about what your horse will do simply because a car drives past then don't ride on the road. Maybe YOU should have some respect for the animal...
