I've got one and I had the older model too, I have also ridden the System Six and the S works Venge. The Madone feels stiffer at the BB than the Venge a bike that is a laterally flex bike to me. The System Six is a quick bike but maintaining that speed on UK roads is hard as the bike is a bit harsh. If Dave was riding all three aero bikes simultaneously he would have found the Isospeed more noticeable. The new Trek H2 1.5 geometry makes the bike handle a lot better (if you have the flexibility) than the older model but i'm slightly slower uphill now that I'm riding disc wheels. I've no idea why Road.cc bang on about cost so much, why can't equipment be more aspirational? this bike sells for the depreciation of most owners cars in a Year! and what about the cost per mile, it's a decent investment assuming you are not a habitual conspicuous consumer and someone that actually rides. Lastly I'm not sure if a reviewer should say in summary if they would buy it or not, it's such an individual thing what we would choose personally.

Interesting that you remark about UK roads. I've recently returned to the area I grew up in. I'm back riding those same roads that I was cycling on in the 80's and 90's and I swear they have not been resurfaced. My local roads have just more and more patches which are poor repairs. With the inevitable austerity that will come from C-19 I doubt any of my local roads will be resurfaced in my lifetime. I also believe we will see less road surfacing now that more people will work from home. This makes me think that old codgers like me are more likely to be buying gravel bikes rather than these 'work of art' carbon framed, carbon wheeled bikes.
@garybird8646
@garybird8646 4 жыл бұрын
@@And-rc9yy I agree if you look at the traffic stats the volume, size and weight of cars has increased over the last three decades and let's face it most roads were not built for cars in the first place. I find it interesting that a lot of pros treat themselves to hand made steel bikes after retirement. There's something about the stored energy and spring in a quality road bike that can smooth out imperfections in road surfaces like nothing else. Gravel in the UK is basically mixed surface riding, something we have a long history of with organisations like the rough stuff fellowship dating back 80+ Years.

I had mine delivered this week with two noticeable differences to the tested bike 1. Sram (I hope I pronounced that correctly) red AXS etap and 2. Ceramic speed BB. My old bike was Fuji Transonic 2.5 with upgraded Sram (I hope I pronounced that correctly) red etap and fulcrum Racing zero carbon wheels. This is my only comparison bike I can tell you the two bikes are leaps and bounds from each other (10 seconds over a 1min 40s Strava segment). The Aeolus XXX 6 are incredible in cross winds and the AXS gearing works a treat. If I had my time again I would not have upgraded the Fuji and invested in the Trek straight away. I could not recommend this bike highly enough.

zakymaa The bike is great for climbing, although if you are after pure climbing you’d definitely buy the Emonda SLR instead. The bike weighs in at 7.8kg (54cm frame) without pedals. Having said that, I’m definitely quicker uphills than the Fuji, and way faster downhills. All round the Madone is just better at converting your given power to speed.

I'm currently waiting on a response from headquarters as to why that chip happens on every single Madone SLR. I have it on mine on BOTH sides, my brothers has it on BOTH sides as well. there's a little piece that goes underneath the bottom headset spacer that is supposed to stop the handlebars from being able to turn all the way...only thing I can come up with is that the handlebars get turned too far and top of the fork hits the under side of the head tube. I luckily found a pretty spot on matching nail polish for mine (Quicksilver colorway) but my brother has this same framesets (sunburst) and it's harder to match. Very frustrating that this flaw got past all the engineers.

it has a compact chainset because I suggest those who can afford such a bike no longer have the strength to pedal it ;-) Also, because it's Dura-Ace you get a max 28T cog at the back which gives you a 1.214 ratio vs 1.2 for 36:30 with an Ultegra semi-compact for instance.

1. All of Trek’s bikes ship with a compact. Their logic is the retail buyer is not a professional and doesn’t need a 53/39. If you do need one and are buying a complete bike they can swap it for you before delivery. 2. Dura Ace 9100 has a maximum rear sprocket of 30T, and can unofficially (Fiddle with the B Screw) take up to a 34t.

@trisportsukltd
@trisportsukltd 4 жыл бұрын
The decoupler is a very straight forward concept and works well. It does not require any servicing and does not add any significant weight whilst it does add comfort, which is rare for an aero frame. Aero bikes all look heavy because of the depth of the tube shapes. Even so, they are not blocky or heavy to ride. The Madone SLR was used to success for a win in the last Monument race of 2019 - Il Lombardia and also win the 2019 World Champion Road Race. Plenty of climbs in both races.

No matter how beautiful or expensive the bike; it seems brake squeal is included; How gullible we are.
@umaxi96
@umaxi96 5 жыл бұрын
Discbrakes tend to squeal more on roadbikes since the forces involved are lower than on Mountainbikes for example. The limiting factor of brake performance is tire width. On a Mountainbike you can brake much more forcefully and stop faster because of wider tires and there is less vibration between disc and brakepads that would result in squealing. If brakes are to strong on roadbikes, the wheels would be blocked resulting in worse brake performance.

YTisDangerous are you excusing brake squeal on a £10,000 road bike? Because if you are then I have to say, there should be NO sound from the BB, brakes etc on a bike costing this much!
@umaxi96

adriboff1 So why does the expensive bike squeal, then? How could it be prevented? In my opinion some brake systems do always squeal at lower speeds but performe better in different conditions in turn (e.g. higher speeds/bad weather/heat capacity/durability). Roadbikes are not race cars but many race cars have very expensive brakepads that always squeal at lower speeds. So squealing brakes are not necessarily a bad sign in my opinion.

My Ultegra discs never squeal on my SLR 6. If set up properly and not contaminated then no, they will not make any noise whatsoever

This bike was really easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

I can buy a very nice second hand car for 10 grand! I ride a trek 7.9fx,it came with 25mm tyres and I swapped them for 37mm slicks as the poor bike was battered by the crappy cambridge roads,potholes everywhere,terrible broken up road surface as standard also.I can ride faster with the 37mm tyres as I’m not forever bracing myself and gritting my teeth for every inch of torturous road surface.I can’t imagine that 10 grand bike being much fun to ride on the crappy city roads around here.

Ryon Beachner To produce this bike is no more than 2 or 3k. Trek then add on to it when they sell to the distributor. The distributor adds on his cut and then the bike store add on their profit! So the end user gets left with a nice hefty bill for something that was made in China and then assembled in the USA or wherever Trek are based!

adriboff1 So all the time spent paying employees to do wind tunnel testing, CFD, sponsoring race teams for feedback and R&D and etc are all completely free? And why in the hell would they then turn around and sell it for their cost after going to all that trouble? If they don’t make money they cease to exist. Same goes for the distributor who if they didn’t make a markup would then not be able to pay rent, or employees and would cease to exist. Then the dealer who sells the bike, do you suppose they go to work in the morning because they have nothing better to do? What world do you live in...

Definitely, my carbon road bike cost me about 1,000 pounds all up and although it doesn't have di2 or disk brakes, I am sure those two options don't cost an extra 9,000 pounds.
