Elize Ryd was one of many singers who sent a demo to Tuomas after they fired Tarja. She was on the short list but Tuomas thought she was a bit to young (22-23) to handle all the crap he knew would be coming. But she did get to sing with Nightwish when Anette was taken to hospital during the US tour. So Elize and Alissa Gluz, who both toured with Kamelot as support act to Nightwish at the time, jumped in and sang the songs they knew, and Marko did the rest of them. And they gave Floor some support on her first day on the new job too. ;)

They just dropped the official music video for their song "BOOM!" yesterday and it's incredibly heavy. I'd also recommend their song "GG6". Both of these songs predominantly feature GG6 (the harsh vocalist's stage name; his real name is Henrik) and they are really good. GG6 has a very unique style to how he growls in certain songs. You'll see and hear what I mean if you listen to the ones I mentioned. "Countdown" and "Dream" are two other songs that have a unique style to them, but "Dream" may be a bit too light for you, so not sure. Amaranthe is known for being very synth/electronics forward, and Elize's vocal quality adds a pop element to it. Nils' vocals are also really great and power metal oriented, as he has his own band called Dynazty.

Amaranthe is a wierd band...and I mean that in a positive way, like, unique...a lot of synths, the choruses are basically pop... I'm going to throw out suggestions just for the sake of it. Kontrust - The butterfly defect (live at woodstock) Probably not the song from them you would like the most, but might be the best in which to see the gear the use as their music videos are typically something else. Another vote for Amaranthe's "Nexus" and/or "Burn With Me"... The relationship with Nightwish goes back to Elize (then touring with Kamelot) and the Denver Nightwish concert. This is very typical standard song for Amaranthe and gives a pretty good image of their music. However there those pearly moments. Many times mentioned cover of 82nd All the Way is definitely one of their best performances. I really liked their two first albums and then I think they went too much in modern list pop influences and don't like it that much. This song had the same more 90's vibe that hits my taste better. Let's take some of the different end songs: Archangel is their most likely heaviest song, a real headbanger; then Amaranthine is a stunning metal ballad. I got in tears during the song when they played it live on a tour supporting Sabaton. The clean vocal singers are actually very talented and they get a bit underrated in Amaranthe. The female lead singer Elize Ryd is an excellent singer and she could stand out much higher. Some of her best performances is the guest appearance in Kamelot - Sacrimony (official live) and the nice duet with Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) for a Christmas song (metal ballad version) Julen Är Här. A fan fact of Elize: she has sang one gig as Nightwish lead singer co-worked with Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). Nils Molin has done more power stuff in his earlier main band Dynazty. Some of my favorite songs by them are a very catchy Heartless Madness and a faster Human Paradox.
@stevehill91674 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the wonderful world of Amaranthe. I totally understand your hesitance as I too was like that at first, I just wasn’t sure about the crazy mix of dance, drum and bass, electronic and metal. Plus with 3 singers it means none of them get a full chance to shine overall. That said, they grow on you, if you can accept them for what they are then you may get to love them as I now have. The stunning Elize Ryd is the female singer and she has an incredible range, she has done guest vocals on numerous other projects too and was nearly the 3rd singer of Nightwish. The original clean male vocals were done by Jake E, he has since left and formed his own band called Cyhra. The growls are dealt out by GG6 and he brings the intensity, he can also do a kind of death metal rap style which is sometimes incorporated. The new clean male vocals are from Nils Molin, he has a great definition and powerful vocal style. He also has another band called Dynazty. In terms of reactions there are so many to check out: The Nexus Hunger Drop Dead Cynical Digital World Helix Do or Die featuring Angela Gossow And you should do a double reaction to their cover of 82nd All The Way by Sabaton, coupled with the Sabaton original. 🤘🏻🙂

Amaranthe is an amazing band :D They got 3 Lead singers and their music is really Out of This World :D And Elize Ryd has an amazing song voice and man she is beutifull :D If you gonna check up more Amaranthe dont forget The Nexus, Drop Dead Cynical and Hunger, 3 of their most amazing songs

I benched some of your videos for 2 hours after stumbling over a recomended reaction. Would love too see more Swedish band reactions since im a swede myself. Sonic Syndicate, Soilwork, In Flames or even Volbeat (even tho they are from Denmark) Would be fun too see your thoughts about. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the reaction, Amaranthe has been my go to for when I want something different to listen to. Heard them way back with their first album and thought it was a nice mix up of metal and synth, probably because I like hard electronic. Most of the music videos are edited and different to the studio recordings, so not a good benchmark if you ask me. Some may be recommending the song Boom!1 but I cant stand it, its way too Nu Metal for me and that is the one metal genre I have pure loathing for. It's hard to find a song with more growling, all their songs have this mixture of style, it defines the bands sound. If you like the rappy metal sound then you may like Boom, it's one of their more unique songs. To each their own....... Highly recommend the Japanese band Blood Stain Child. They are very much like Amaranthe in the mix of vocal style and synth, but they are more heavy on the screams/growls. For an official video look up BLOOD STAIN CHILD【KAMUI-神威-】or NEXUS, for a studio song Sirius VI is one of my favorites. Newer songs have less female/clean vocals and more screams/growls. Great band and highly underrated! If you watch the KAMUI video it can be a bit visually intense...... Another great band with synth/metal is Blue Stahli, a one man band, recommend the songs ULTRAnumb or Down In Flames. His music has been used in plenty of video games, trailers, and tv shows.

i personally prefer their older stuff, with the original lineup. imo it was a bit cleaner, and their newer stuff seems to be much more cluttered. anything from their first album is very good. "hunger" is probably the song most ppl check out for the first time and one id recommend. "amaranthine" is my favorite song, but its a bit slower. 1.000.000 light years is also very solid

Another interesting band like this is Blood Stain Child. They sound like In Flames meets a rave and the bassist for Babymetal used to play with them.

This is just what Amaranthe sounds like. Personally I've loved them for several years and have all of their albums. I believe they're classified as Metal core, and you either love them, or you don't.

Hey Tank, I used to be a massive Amaranthe fan yeaaaars ago, when they had a different lineup. I am not at all surprised that you didn't love this, judging by the things you enjoy (Wintersun, finnish melodeath and so on). For my taste, their 2 first albums were great, but after that, it was a disappointment after a disappointment. This is the band that left me feeling "betrayed", however they do have some nice songs from time to time. I really liked their song Archangel from new album - early Amaranthe vibes. Also, their clean voalist Nils has other band - Dynazty which is great. Might not be entirely your taste either - it's a a little bit cheezy power metal, or glam metal. However, I'm digressing - I do recommend Archangel if you ever decide to do another reaction to Amaranthe. My band recommendation is Fleshgod Apocalypse. They are on the more extreme side of metal, so I recommend one of their lighter stuff to start with - a song Monnalisa. It's a symphonic technical death metal :) Cheers!

LOVE an honest reaction! Amaranthine, Drop Dead Cynical & Endlessly

I liked this band more in its beginnings since it was more power metal, with Joacim "Jake E" Lundberg in the clean voice and Andreas Solveström in the guttural voice, now I find them more pop than power metal, the truth is that I already know They like them a lot, although I have to say that Elize Ryd sings spectacular, regards Tank seriously it's always a pleasure to see your reactions bro.

The song that got me hooked on them was "Hunger", must've been at least 9-10 years ago or so, would definitely suggest to try that one.

Saw them live with Sabaton back in Feb at Wembley and they were awesome. This isn't their strongest song for you to introduce yourself to. Digital World, Nexus, Drop Dead Cynical or Danger Zone would be my recommendations.

As well as agreeing with the other comments suggesting Drop Dead Cynical, I'd suggest 'Do or Die'. Angela Gassow (Arch Enemy) does the 'growl' vocals which is always good. There's no gear visible in the video, so maybe not the best for a teardown, but still a pretty bangin' song.

It's the "so much different stuff" that to me makes Amaranthe an amazing band. I love the synths and I love the harmonies in the chorus. I know it's all subjective. If you prefer the growls, check out their songs GG6 or Boom where that is featured more. Personally, the Nexus and Automatic are my 2 favorites. Automatic in particular doesn't get enough love.

Amaranthe can be hit or miss, their poppy sound does throw me off sometimes too but the fact that their guitarist is also in one of my favorite bands Dragonland helps out a lot. Elize also does guest vocals in a few Dragonland songs. I like all 3 singers really. 1 million lightyears is probably my favorite song by them.

Archangel and Viral would have been a better choice from their newest album, I personally love Breakthrough Starshot and On The Rocks. Still waiting on you to get around to Within Temptation Paradise (What About Us)

YIPPIE !!!! The best band in the world, since 2013 (the year I met them for the first time). AFAIK, Olof mostly uses Caparison and Jackson guitars. And I won't hate you at all, it's just a matter of taste and nothing else.

Their own stuff also sounds very Pop meets Metal to me, which is fine, but not always something I really love. That being said, they're great musicians, but that does make it such that a cover like Sabaton's 82nd All the Way really makes shem shine that much more, to me. Recommend: Amaranthe - 82nd All the Way

Huh, what a shame THIS particular song by Amaranthe was chosen for a reaction. It's also my first time hearing it but compared to other songs it's pretty underwhelming; Amaranthe is a pretty epic band so I hope you'll give them a second chance (82nd All The Way recommended, especially since you like Sabaton)

You should do a double reaction of Sabaton performing 82nd All the Way and Amaranthe doing a cover of the same song. I believe there is also a live video where the singers of Amaranthe join Sabaton on stage.

Dance metal is what i would call them and its the mix of styles that makes them stand out. Perfect partymusic, Elize is the party princess and Floor is the queen of metal. And to keep it in the family check out Angela Gossow.

Random trivia for you to check out Tank, if you're interested, there was an occasion where Elize (Amaranthe) stood in as vocalist for Nightwish ("The Denver Debacle" (2012) captured in the DVD "Showtime, Storytime"). Not the strongest performance ever, but certainly a unique happening and the crowd was enjoying the show! :) This is their sound in a nutshell more or less. Electronic metal with clean male/female vocals with some growl parts mixed in. As for song suggestions, well.. "The Nexus" was their big breakthrough hit as far as I know (link below). Has a sweet guitar solo as well! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iamyqpWQmLeLnqs

This is my first listen to their new material and seems like their balance has shifted a bit, changing the overall impression of their sound. They always walked that line of metal-EDM fusion and it feels like they've nudged further into the dance side, becoming more of a "synth metal", akin to Beast in Black or Temperance sound, losing, in my opinion, some of their prior distinctiveness. I became interested in them when I heard Digital World and Drop Dead Cynical, which I really liked and characterized for myself as more of a "techno metal", with bit more of an edge. It's a tricky balance, I think, and I'd be curious if you agree after checking out those older songs....

The lead female singer, Elize Ryd, was considered by Nightwish as a replacement for Tarja way back in 2005. They thought she was too inexperienced at the time and chose Anette Olzon instead. She did, however, get to sing with Nightwish later on : during the infamous Denver show in 2012 when Anette fell ill shortly before the show began, it was then-Kamelot's touring vocalists Elize Ryd and Alyssa White-Gluz who took over and performed the show with minutes to prepare. They certainly have a unique sound. I recommend reacting to The Nexus or even Amaranthine if you feel for something a bit more mellow.

Nils Molin's (the male clean singer) other band, Dynazty is definitely worth checking out. They started out as a really good sleaze/AOR rock style band but transitioned to power metal on their 4th album (while retaining the catchiness of the more sleaze/AOR material). Starlight is a good track to try from that 4th album. If you want to hear their earlier sound for comparison I really dig the title track their 3rd album, Sultans of Sin.
