Yes. Thanks. It's a pity that a lot of divers are losing the ability to fix anything. Did you also know that many big companies don't allow divers to touch the truck if something goes wrong. They have to wait for a mechanic to come.

Thanks for the video John, uphill and downhill is very interesting, I admire the manual transmissions of the US-Trucks. In Europe nowadays only have automatic transmission. Between 12 and 1800 for the better power of the enginbrake,the pulling power and feul consuption. It is a cummins. Somthimes i needed to go up to 2100 than changing gears.That was how steep and long the hill and heavy the load. Slippery or snow roads need les,Around 900 to 1500,ore very slippery,les than 1500. Else the wheels going to spin,than you lost power and the moment of gear changing. The skills and technics. Sure it was 1 thing i loved. Its stil all between my ears. whell. Maybe thats all there is in it. 😅😅

Very good information. I normally rev between 1300 and 1700.
@MarioVanDerMaas

@@RoadTrainAdventures As you say it is the best. Its like a game. You know. Somthimes you go up to 2000 ore somthing,to skip a split gear,or compleet gear to let it fall down to example 1000 or 1100. Than hear the cummins roar. lol. It all depends on the road and load and HP thats in it. And in your case also the heat of the weather. Every time whe shift gear,it takes more fuel consumption. Most the times when i was empty with flatbed ore curtenside trailer, i drove 4-6-7-8 gear. Could do that with 400HP. Than its fast like a racing car. And you are quicker at top speed.Wits means at that moment it takes less fuel becose it dont have to pull up no more. But your semi and equipment is a few ton more heavy and 2 trailers most the times. At least its more fun than automatic. And automatic isnt good when you almost,ore get stuck in mud. When whe get stuck,whe can very quickly shift gear forward and back wards,to try move the semi. Wit automatic your cant do nothing.

At the top of the compression stroke, the exhaust valves are opened releasing the pressure. This wastes all the energy used to compress the air. That energy has to come from somewhere and in this case it comes from the crank, which in turn gets it from the wheels via the drivetrain, thereby slowing the truck. The Cummins Intebrake uses this method, as does the Jacobs ("Jake") brake.

It would be helpful for travellers to know your favourite roadhouses and rest areas along the route. You don’t stop much. When we were kids dad would take the five of us on the summer holiday crossings in the beetle and EH, no such thing as aircon comfort. Dirt road from port Augusta to Norseman. It’s so different these days.
