Fact of the matter is, the '04 Pistons just don't have enough offense. That starting 5 isn't going to play 48 minutes. I think the most underrated aspect of this is how easy it would be for the warriors to guard the pistons. You could basically play zone the whole game as the warriors and let them prove they can shoot 3’s at a high clip. Offensives the warriors are gonna drop 40 points per quarter. Easy kill.
@Txjumpman

@Robcbiz this might be the dumbest post in all the responses. The warriors didn’t average 40 a quarter against bad defensive teams they played against. Right. Everyone only looks at the Warriors offense but they were one of the best defensive teams of the era. I'll give Pistons the better defense but the Warriors offense is MILES above Pistons and anyone they faced in the past. It took the Cavs 7 games with a full squad and the last shot from Irving to take down a Warriors without Green for two games, Bogut out, Iggy. Add KD, they ran through the league and it wasn't even arguable. They swept the James. Warriors are one of the best offensive teams in the NBA history. Edit: Lakers 2002 is an asterisk. Kings was screwed by that refs who admitted to helping the Lakers.

I think people are losing what the 04 pistons were good at, No one is going to out pace or out shoot that 17 warriors team. What sheed is saying their game plan was and will be to wear you down below your averages and muck the game up. Now would that result in the pistons “beating the shit out of them” IDK that’ll be a lot of wearing down that’ll be needed.

I don't understand why these guys are determining the winner of this series with matchups. If we determined the winner of the 2004 lakers/pistons finals with matchups, the lakers would have won. Shaq, Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant were better on paper. They lost because the pistons were a better TEAM. They were more than the sum of their individual parts. Considering the 17' warriors had one of the greatest offenses in the history of basketball, and the 04' pistons had perhaps the greatest defense in basketball history, I think a more appropriate question is: "What happens when an unstoppable force hits an unmovable object." The 04 pistons broke so many ridiculous defensive records. One of only 2 teams (jordan's bulls) to hold a playoff team under 60 points. Allowed under 85 points in 15 playoff games. Allowed under 80 points in 11 playoff games. 70 or less in 6 playoff games. Allowed 65 or less in 3 playoff games. Allowed under 40% FG in 12 playoff games. Least points allowed per game in the shot clock era. Pistons are getting more defensive and offensive REBs, forcing more TOs, winning more loose balls against 17 GSW The kicker for me is that ONLY 2 LAKERS PLAYERS had double digit points in 4 of the 5 games in the finals, Kobe and Shaq. Also, Kobe and Shaq only averaged 22ppg and 26 ppg in this series. These hall of famers, top 10 in bball history, struggled against this pistons defense. I do not see Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, or Klay consistently dropping 25+ on the 04 pistons. Pistons in 7 w/ hybrid rules

Defense Wins Championships! Full disclore: I am from Detroit. There's never been a team like the 04 Piston. If Larry Brown had remained the head coach, rest in peace Flip Saunders, they would have continued to be a defensive Juggernaut and I believe would have won more titles. After the 04 win, they went back to the finals after 05, then they had appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals the following three years. Everybody in Detroit new they're identity changed from a defensive one to an offensive one and that was their downfall. 04 Pistons had a historic defensive streak that year. I wont mention all the team and players but here notable opposition players caught in that can't score 70 points snare. These teams were trying to score over 70 points against the Pistons and couldn't. *Wizards Gilbert Arenas and others (Steve Blake, Kwame Brown, Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laetner, etc.) *Celtics Vin Baker Paul Pierce Big Perk and others *Houston Rockets Steve Francis Jim Jackson Yao Ming Cutino Mobley Mark Jackson Charles Oakley and others *76ers Derrick Coleman Samuel Dalembert Willie Green Allen Iverson Kyle Korfer Glen Robenson Eric Snow. You get the point. There's more. A total of 11 games, teams were held under 70pts GS Matchups - All depends on the rules. GS gets the edge with no touch rules today. Stef don't want to see Chauncy on the defensive end. To big, too strong, too clutch. Stef might get the best of him offensive but would be tired after. Klay - I love Klay's defense but no one in the league want to chase Rip off those screens, not even Kobe. It was a track meet. (We'll say they cancel each other out) KD - Regardless of what you say, Tayshaun would have frustrated KD on the parameter. If there's any player in history who could have frustrated KD, it would have been Tayshaun. KD would have on that matchup on points but they would not have been easy one. Dre, David West, Zaza, Looney, and Javale Mcgee would loose their matchups with Detroit bigs. (Sheed, Wallace, Elden Campbell, Mehmet Okur, Corliss Williamson) - Too much power in the paint. Both teams had x factors on defense. Andre Igoudala and Lindsey Hunter. They would have had trouble getting the ball past half court on Lindsey. One of the best on-ball defenders ever. The Nets broke the streak: RJ was on that team Jason Kid Vince Carter Alonzo Mourning Clifford Robinson and other notable players Clip for the interested: kzbin.infoAgveyk5jMeE?si=s3mSE7g4lU30zP7E They celebrated after breaking the streak like the won the finals. Look at the final score. I'm giving the edge to the Pistons.

You don’t need the 2017 Warriors to beat the Pistons, last year’s play-in version will do. No team these days trying to play through the post, which was 80% of the 2000s offense, it’s alot slower and alot less shots. The Warriors will outshoot the Pistons by a mile and dominate the number of offensive possessions, then you factor in they are scoring in more 3s vs 2s….. the math just aint mathing. It’s like in hockey, if a teams takes 40 shots at the goal and you only take 20…. Chances you are gonna lose.

Underrated x-factor for Pistons just like in 04: Lindsey Hunter. He and 6'9 Tayshaun Prince with the freakishly long suffocating wingspan are 2 of the greatest perimeter defenders in history who locked down Kobe in the 04 Finals, and Prince locked down Tracy Mcgrady in 03 after the Pistons got down 3-1 and is perfect for KD (Tracy 2,0). However, the 2 Pistons defenders couldn't be more different. Hunter is like a lightning quick, rugged, strong NFL RB who is the one guy who can get in Steph's grill 94 feet for 15-20 minutes a game like he's never experienced and physically wear him down. Whenever an opponent's offence got in a flow Larry Brown would throw Hunter in with fresh legs and it would throw a wrench into the machine. Hell, Matthew Dellavedova gave Curry problems with his Rugby athleticism and build before he was hospitalized with exhaustion because he wasn't used to playing half the minutes and expending energy guarding a generational player like Curry over multiple games. Pistons D Matches up perfectly: 1. Prince has Durant and will smother him like he did to Mcgrady in 03 and Kobe in 04. 2. Rip can chase down Klay better than anyone because he does the same thing on offence and never gets tired. 3. Chauncey, who also has the build of an NFL player, will be a much better (2nd Team All Defense multiple times) version of Dellavedova on Steph before Hunter checks in. Then Steph really has to work. 4. Sheed guards Draymond who will have no problem sticking with one of the least athletic players in the NBA. It's Draymond's Jokic like IQ that's the wild card. Yet if that's a problem the Pistons can switch one of the most athletic, strongest and possibly GOAT defender in Ben Wallace. 5. Ben Wallace can start on Iggy And Pistons shoot 3s too. Chauncey and Sheed can from very deep with Prince able to stroke it from the logo like it's a walk in the park, just watch his five threes in a row to start the game against North Carolina when playing for Kentucky. Future 7'0 All Star Mehmet Okur is a great 3-point shooter off the bench. And Darko!

Depends when they were allowed to tackle people on court? Pistons offensive talent doesnt work without a push and shove D to go along with it. Warriors championchip O has zero competition. They also didnt mention they wouldve had to double stef once the logo 3s started falling

Its very simple. Rules are different and that makes a STAGGERING difference. Hence why debates such as this are irrelevant because the game and the rules are different so its pointless.

Ben Wallace is the deal breaker! Warriors would have to shoot outside. Remember they beat the lakers in the finals

2017 spurs in the playoffs was going to beat that team so I can see that 2004 pisters team beat them

RJ keep talking about outpacing. Why would tayshaum try to outscore instead of play his game? He stuck on 1v1 matchups. The pistons were a team. They played team defense. Tashaun wouldve soent all his energy getting easy baskets and locking up kd and klay.

These old guys need to stop saying oh we can dominate today's game oh you're not the in today's game even the bench player needs to have skills bags, shooting, handles, switching, off the ball movement, defense( two way players) etc but in old era players who had 3 or 4 abilities of the above are consider Star, no offense but the game has evolved 30+ points ahead is not safe in today's game
