Love the video! For the Astartes being sterile, Lukas the Trickster (a space wolf astartes) braggs about having a daughter. So maybe some chapter do this? Of course they are space wolves so its more probable they are an exception

Salamanders actually are all about familiy and familial ties. They are said to have biological families. But they may be adopted ones or from before they became space marines. I have a theory if Astartes use the genes of their primarchs for the implantation organs than the Custodians use their own genes for the growth of new organs which is why they are so rare and hard to create. Think custom made gene seed with more organs on the side.

Praise the machine god and his greatest creation, the organic machines Also fun fact: The name "Astartes" in universe originated from the former leader of the nascent Imperiums Bio-technical divion Amar Astarte. She coined that name as she oversaw the entire project, but got later booted out and replaced by Ezekiel Sedayne ( the guy who perfected the most difficult of the modications the black carapace, which was also what earned him the promotion ) who kept the name as a joke. It was "Astartes'" project afterall, so they kept the name and they ended up with Astartes. Actually like most names of the Legions they where kinda based on in universe jokes. Like the 16th Legion the "lunar Wolves" who received that name after they spear headed the conquest of lunar ( the moon ) and over ran the capital city. The leaders of the society of lunar after just a few hours into the invasion send the Emperor and his council a message stating for him to call back his wolves. The Legionaires found that so hillariouse that they kept the name and called themselves the Lunar Wolves and made it their official designation.

For additional info there are 4 main time periods (for humans, I'm not getting into the war in heaven, etc.): 1. Dark age of technology- no one really knows about it but it was humanities pinnacle, they had things like weapons that could shoot backwards in time, giant robots that could eat existence (even the warp), giant robots that could destroy suns, armies of cheap but efficient robots. This age ends for unknown reasons. 2. Age of strife, DAOT collapses and humanity kind of goes ape shit on itself, what your left with is a bunch of warlords and mutants fighting for power 3. Great crusade: Emperor reunifies earth and then goes on to try and take over the galaxy so he can prevent psykers/chaos from destroying the universe. This plan fails because of the horus heresy and magnus the red. 4. What happens after that is 10k years of fighting off space locusts, eygyptian terminators, angry mushrooms, chaos traitor humans, chaos demons, normal traitor humans, space elfs, emo space elfs, and god knows what else. There's a minor faction of collectivist weeabo aliens who are mind controlled by a sub-species of said aliens.

Its cool to see you going ham on all this interesting information. And this is why every imperial fan in 40k REALLY likes Astartes work. He's one of the VERY FEW visual producers in the entire history of 40k content who ACTUALLY makes space marines as powerful as they truly are. Obviously the video game Space Marine does a very good job of portraying it as well. But then titles like Dawn of War and other smaller visual producers usually end up getting trapped in the " making space marines act and react like normal human soldiers". Which for a 40k zealot, can take you out of the immersion of the viewing experience.

Just found your channel yesterday, really enjoyed watching, subscribed pretty much instantly, and finding the 40k stuff today has been a real treat. Biology has always fascinated me and helping people learn about it using their favourite films/tv/games is a fantastic idea. I'm surprised there aren't more people following this channel - I'll pass these 40k videos on to my gaming buddies. More 40k stuff please! While I'm definitely a big Space Marine fan, I imagine you'd have a lot of fun exploring the Tyranids and all the crazy biological stuff that keeps the hive fleets going. (Just a suggestion, but a Xenobiology sub-series would be pretty cool, and if you contacted the popular 40k lore channels and maybe collaborated with them, I reckon you'd do pretty well in terms of viewers and subscriptions. Oculus Imperia would be my first suggestion, given the academic, in-universe style of his videos.)

God this is such a great series I'd love to see one covering the varying species belonging to each of the factions of 40K, some would be hard like Tyranids since they are an ever adapting biomass, and others wouldn't make sense to cover like Chaos spawn since they aren't really physical beings but I'd love to see a video at least looking at some of them and the others!

Knowing next to nothing about this world. This honestly sounds like the most “realistic” super soldier. Looking at the body and covering our biological weaknesses. But instead of machines that the body could reject, we upgrade, replace or amplify what is already there. Design our own organs and take biology as far as it must to accomplish the perfect warrior. The idea of implanting artificially designed organically grown organs coupled with chemical and hormone treatment seems the most believable. Kinda why I think the Spartans are fairly realistic as well.

Love your videos, watched some of them multiple times. Not trying to act entitled, but I'd love to see more 40k type vids. With the games workshop/ henry cavill mashup, I'd say theres money to be made there. Even with the other channels dedicated to warhammer, I'd love to hear your thoughts on not just the space marines, but the xenos species,etc too. I'd watch pretty much anything you put out your opinions and background in science aligned with your entertaining personality are excellent. Much love regardless!!

Brilliant video man thanks for the upload I have an idea for a video which I find really interesting on how it works and that is titan pilots and to a degree knight pilots like with how they connect to the war engine because if I'm right the thrown they use link's the mind of the titan commander to the titan itself and some to the point where they feel the damage done to the war engine now I'll have to look through my warhammer books to double check that but I'm sure that's how it works but yeah so I may have to edit this comment if I'm wrong but still I think that's really interesting to see how that works with the human mind. Anyway love your channel and again thanks for this upload looking forward to seeing the others on this topic

Crazy to think how much effort into these marines backstory on organs and Primarchs back in late 1980's early 1990's. The Universe has so much lore it would take years of doing videos to get decent knowledge of it.

Roanoke you did a excellent job in describing the Emperors work just one thing though. The black carapace is actually installed by literally skinning the new marine placing the carapace onto the skinned super soldier then the skin will be placed back on and nano stitched together leaving no scars
