That save being the last action in the game (effectively) meant that he literally saved the goal and the heartache of another year as a non-league club. The best football story of all time is known as THE GREAT ESCAPE Carlisle United almost went out of the football league after 71years. They sold the goalkeeper and had to get JIMMY GLASS on loan from Swindon they were in last place 1 point behind the last game of the season they needed Scarborough to lose or draw and Carlisle United to win it was tense Carlisle scored first but the goal was disallowed Plymouth scored then a player broke a leg then the Carlisle United captain scored to draw 1-1 it ended at the Scarborough 1-1 Carlisle United needed to win or they were playing non league football for the first time in over 7 decades 90 minutes ended 4 minutes left to save a football club 93:55 Carlisle got a corner last play of the game the Carlisle United on loan goalkeeper JIMMY GLASS came running up the pitch into the 6 yard box the corner was whipped in the Plymouth keeper saved a header the ball fell at JIMMY'S feet and he buried it in the back of the net then Brunton park erupted JIMMY GLASS was at the bottom of a 500 person pile on someone even jumped on the ref after the pitch invasion went back to the stands the kicked off lasted 2 seconds then the ref blew to end the game 2-1 then another pitch invasion and JIMMY GLASS was carried of the pitch by 7,500 grateful fans that was 24 years ago in 1999
