After a year of working on this, maaaaaaan, i’m so close. Been playing with folks, and damn in 18 months, I am impressing the pants of people. You are a great teacher and I connect with your style so much. Thank you, Rob!

Im a self taught drummer of many years, no one ever told me let alone taught me about rudiments. You are the best. Ive always let me left foot go to sleep until I needed to open the hi hat because I didn’t know any better. Im finding the one - TWO - THREE - four to be the most difficult to wrap my brain around. I had to start so slow the metronome threw me out of the studio. Its a major mind ****. Im better now after pushing through it. If I get nothing else out of this at least I now know the level of my lack of coordination and why its there. I gave my wife the pattern of exercise and told her to try it so she could understand what I was trying to do. She almost fell out of her chair 😅

Bruv!! Since I'm starting from scratch, I figured I might as well strengthen my left foot and learn the hi-hat while I'm learning bass to not be lazy and this is helping IMMENSELY and improving my skill SO much! Thanks sensai!

This channel is a goddamn goldmine for quality content on how to properly learn how to drum. I would donate or something but I'm broke as fuck in college, but these videos just keep hitting the essential foundations drummers need to know. Thank you for the uploads

You’ve helped me so much rob. I play at a bigger church in my town Sioux Falls SD and I’ve learned a lot from your channel, you even motivated me to learn traditional grip after playing drums with match for 10 years. Thanks so much bro, keep killing it. Reputation is the mother of skill!

Another excellent video Rob. Highly relevant and although I'm quite comfortable with my on and off beat high hat foot work, you've made me aware that I can do much more work here. I've flipped the lesson (2 beats on the hat, moving it around over a steady bass drum part) and it's driving me crazy! Thank you - kind of...

The reason I looked this up is because I noticed a drummer playing in an orchestra setting and his hihat was really moving, twice as fast as I normally play. I figured his style is a much more accurate way of keeping time, breaking the measures up twice as much as I do.

Hi again Rob. Just watched both the hi-hat exercise videos, excellent as always, perfect for someone (like me!) who's having to start again from scratch, but having difficulty deciding the best way to go about it for maximum benefit. Looking forward to seeing this particular series develop.

PS - Just ordered a cable hi-hat rig, so I can get the hats into a more comfortable position (and maybe release my inner Billy Cobam!) I'll let you know how that goes! - Pete

Do you stamp down hard with left foot. You get a nice cutting chik with your foot. Sounds like you're holding down the pedal pretty tight as well. Heel up or heel down? How high do you sit? Thanks for these! Great material

Hey Rob, do you mind writing the sheet music for your two videos on Hi-hat Development? I am a visual learner, and I cant really hear your bass drum separation on the slow tempo.

I mean you should learn how to do it so you can add it to your skill set but it isn't necessarily a necessity. I thought so at first because my drum idol was (and still is) Jimmy Chamberlain of the Smashing Pumpkins who is known for having a rapid left foot, so whenever I used the ride I essentially had my high hat pumping in constant 8th. But it isn't a necessity, as many professional drummers could tell you. Just look at John Bonham or Jeff Porcaro, they'll use it at times but don't always keep it pumping. I've noticed its more common for drummers to pump them in 4s or only simultaneously with the downbeat of the snare (like Bonham often did.)
