I can't thank you enough for this great lesson. I've been playing over 50 years; still gigging, still shedding. Pretty good but never really developed full independence with left foot. Tried 4-way Coordination, Linear Concepts and applying Ted Reeds Syncopation to feet. Never really clicked. Okay, worked on this lesson real slow until the groove felt good. So easy and relaxing to play these 8 exercises. YOU OPENED UP THE DOOR!! I never felt more comfortable keeping time with my left foot to free up the bass drum. Going back to some grooves I always used and they now have a new sound. A great teacher gives you the tools to explore and create ideas, regardless of what you thought your limitations were. I love your videos, by far best online. Rob, you've got the gift: Great drummer, great teacher.

I started doing these exercises tonight and exercise 3 kicked my butt hard! I knew I needed to work on my left foot but man. Just feet was fine (at 70 bpm at least), but with the hands I messed up every single time the patterns switched. I’m really going to grow with these exercises! Thank you!

I’ve subscribed and been watching your channel for about a year, but this might be the first time I’ve commented. How could I not? This lesson spoke to me, friend. It’s both simple and sublime, fundamental yet profound. I’m no pro (never will be), but I already know working on this daily in my warmups is going to goose my groove. Thank you deeply, Rob.

Super rookie here, new subscriber, left handed, no kit yet, and I pay to go to rehearsal studios for practice. Your lessons have really helped me, this one here slapped me, 💥🤚🏾and said stop being stubborn/reluctant, and switch that kit around at the last 20 minutes of my session. Everything woke the hell up. Didn't get that much time to get on these lessons but the way I was able to express what I was thinking, and maneuver around the kit really woke my game up. Hope was always there but for this lefty this exercise broke me out of trying to make something work that never was going to. Thank you Mr. Brown for your time.

That offbeat hi-hat is such a great tool, forces to clean up everything, and makes Go-Go-like beats (with that implied 3 over 4 due to parts of the kick patterns) really really moving. Practice-along videos are such a great tool too, and since you're Weckl-fluid, it rubs on our playing. Thanks so much!

Rob, I know this is an older video but you’re the best! Simple comments like “you don’t have to be Thomas Lang or Antonia Sanchez” are just encouraging enough and convey the message that we can all do this if we work at it. Thanks for all your time and effort to help us out here in the trenches.

As a rank beginnner who just got my first eKit for Christmas at 57yo, Mr. Brown, your lessons are primo! I did play principle percussionist in college in the symphonic band and orchestra, but that was years ago, and I never learned to play a kit. Left foot independence wasn't an important consideration...

God Rob, you make this look so easy. I’ve been faking it for over thirty years. I’m not a bad drummer but I do have a problem with the math part of percussion. The half time shuffle is so difficult for me. I can’t get my left like my right. And now I’m old so the arthritic pain is full time now. It sure is fun watching you lay down so many different grooves. No matter if I figure it out or not, I’m still happy with what I have learned. Drums are so satisfying. No chick ever made me feel as good as a quality kit. I love drumming. It’s tribal. It’s loud and effective in reducing anxiety. 🤣
