Super useful, thanks. I can’t believe I had to already replace my battery, though. The key for my old E46 lasted 18 years of continuous use without needing a new battery. The key for this G20 didn’t even make it 18 months.

Note on taking the cover off: Mine (from a 2019 X2) has three small plastic tabs along the side edge (opposite from the side that has the metal finish) vs the slanted top edge. Just FYI.

2016 BMW x5 key fob: didn't need screwdriver to release battery. Just use thumb to press down on battery, and there's a tiny spring underneath it that will release it--my battery practically "jumped" out! Great video though, very helpful, thank you!

yes, good video. Removing the battery cover panel feels like you are going to break it, but it turns out it is the kind of plastic that bends, so it gives and eventually comes out. Not a great design, frankly, for a company who prides themselves on being hotshot engineers.

Bingo! I was certain I was going to snap the plastic, partly cause of the design and partly as I was outside and it was right at Freezing;n so I thought that the plastic might be rigid and prone to snapping for both reasons. This vid gave me confidence to pry in one direction and, voila - I had success. Much gratitude for the video and, I totally agree that BMW could have come up with a much better, intuitive and simple open procedure/design.
