Angels (Official Music Video)
The fourth single from 'Life Thru A Lens', and the first song that Robbie wrote with Guy Chambers. Released as a single at the beginning of December 1997, it spent twelve consecutive weeks on the UK Top 10 and peaked at No. 4. It has returned to the chart on numerous occasions in the intervening years, with streaming figures now in excess of 380 million.
A public vote for the 2005 BRIT Awards, where Robbie performed the song as a duet with Joss Stone, named 'Angels' the best song in the previous twenty-five years. In June 2018, his chosen duet partner was Taylor Swift, when the pair performed 'Angels' onstage at Wembley Stadium in London.
The promo video for 'Angels' was filmed at Staunton Sands, a beach on the North Devon Coast in England, and directed by Vaughan Arnell. Vaughan had directed videos for the Spice Girls and George Michael, and would work with Robbie again on multiple projects.

Agreed. Beautiful song, but he's never been a strong vocalist, in my opinion. This video is supposed to be in his prime, the final studio product, and I still don't hear amazing vocals. Trails off at the end of phrases, no climactic riffs as the song progresses. I'm a vocal teacher and this is what I observed. I would coach him differently in the studio to get the best performance out of him. Just being honest.

@ORIA_1125 Fair enough assessment. Art is subjective. But in the singing community, we know that Robbie Williams is not a strong vocalist and it becomes more apparent as he ages. Would love to hear a truly great vocalist like Adam Lambert or Sam Smith tackle this song. I believe they'd kill it. Again just my personal opinion. All love ❤️❤️

I fell in love with this song first back in the late 90's. I kept trying to hum the tune to my husband who LOVED all music and was my music encyclopedia. I am terrible and cannot carry a tune... so I was so happy when it came on the music system once while we were out shopping... I ran to find my husband.... grabbed him and put him under a speaker and said "THIS IS IT!!"...."Listen!!".... he laughed and said "Oh.. I love this song too... its NOTHING like what you kept humming to me!".... hahaha... I lost my sweet husband to cancer, but this song is still a happy memory for me. After I had him listen to it, he bought me the CD.

I had the opportunity to see Robbie Williams live in Mexico City this 2023, the show was constructed song by song until eventually the moment for Angels to be performed came, I really never felt that strength and power in almost any performer before to move your feelings from silly laughing to the deepest sorrow in only one and a half hour. Angels has the power to heal any broken heart at the same time that you accept things as they are. One of the greatest songs never made and such a wonderful showman.

I was born in 1996 and I was lucky to have my parents leave the radio on. I heard so many amazing songs throughout my childhood although it really annoyed me that I could never find these songs since we didn't have internet back then. When I grew older, I started using KZbin in 2006 and I started my journey of rediscovering all the nostalgic songs I heard throughout my childhood. It took years to find them all. And the music always brings me back.

The internet was around in 1996, but it was very primitive compared to what it later became. You couldn't listen to music or watch videos online back then. 2006 is when KZbin first became popular. Sometimes I miss the pre-internet days because life was more authentic then and we weren't always deep into our phones ignoring everything around us. But at the same time, I'm grateful for the technology we have that allows us to do things that we couldn't do back then. Social media, on the other hand, is just a big waste of time and leads to poor mental health and misinformation spreading.

I'm willing to bet that there's a ton of musically important acts from the US you never heard about either so maybe it's time to step off your high horse and be happy about him gaining some new fans over there. Talk about lack of musical culture - when 90% of european pop music being just an imitation of whatever is successful in the US at the time, including _Take That_ mind you, the british clone meant to surf the _Backstreet Boys'_ wake until the current generation of teen and tween girls having grown out of it, the only demographic 90's boy-bands had ever been relevant for in the first place. Why should US americans care about a copy if they have the original? Exactly.

He didn't even write it. Ray Heffernan did. Look him up, they took his name off the writing credits and claimed it as their own. Williams and Chambers but no sign of Heffernan there. That's probably the reason you love this song, cause they had next to nothing to do with it!!!!!!

@@aunttamise8878 You should listen to the Ray Heffernan version then. Heffernan wrote the song and had his name removed from the credits by Williams's crook manager in 1997.

@@ennisimkins565 Wow. I never knew that. I am a fan of World Party, more specifically Karl Wallinger the main creative force of the band, and who wrote "She's the One", that Robbie also covered. But at least he credited Wallinger. It seems Robbie is more a song-appropriator than song-writer. Thanks for the info.

@RobbieWilliams-s4h I first heard your music about 20 years ago. I loved listening to it. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Bipolar type 1. I never realised that my alcohol dependence was as a result of undiagnosed mental illness. I started going to church, gave my life to Christ and went cold turkey after drinking for 25 years. I prayed. I cried. I thought I would never be able to quit. It took 3 weeks. Tough 21 days. Then things went really wrong. I became psychotic. Then I had mania. Then a depression I would not wish on ANYBODY. I could not sleep. I lay in a foetal position on the floor. I cried and cried but no tears. Nobody knew what was going on with me. I was off from work for 7 months during which time I went to a private rehab/wellness centre...I would not take my medication because I believed my faith was enough to heal me. My psychiatrist refused to treat my and so I ended up in a state mental hospital. The less said, the better! Eventually I went back to the rehab and after 3 weeks the meds started working. I am blessed because I have the right medication for me to keep me stable. I still have depression but I know it passes. I struggle to sleep at night but since I am retired, it does not matter. My mind is very busy still because I do not take Seroquel anymore and I do not take sleeping tablets. I take Epilizine, which keeps my moods reasonably stable. Today I am able to help other people with Bipolar. Praise be to God. What the devil meant for harm, God has turned into good. Please continue to bring joy to people through your music. Music is healing! When you become anxious before going onto stage, pray and ask God to remove the spirit of anxiety. Sorry I was not able to attend your concert in Cape Town.

This song is so underrated. I remember when it appeared on MTV (when normal MTV still showed music videos). This song has a deep meaning, Especially for those that have not experienced real love because of their life situation or those that suffer from mental health issues or depression. It's about hope, that even if life is brutally hard....Fantasizing and hoping there is something/someone who still loves and accepts you for who you are.

This song came on daddy looked at me & although he couldn't speak he did with his eyes. One tear fell & he half smiled as if to say thank you 🙏🏼 He sadly passed on Christmas Eve 1998 & I still miss him everyday. Look after your parents people as they did you. Happy 2025 tubers ❤❤

I sit and wait Does an angel contemplate my fate And do they know The places where we go When we're grey and old 'cos I have been told That salvation lets their wings unfold So when I'm lying in my bed Thoughts running through my head And I feel that love is dead I'm loving angels instead [Chorus] And through it all she offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call she won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead When I'm feeling weak And my pain walks down a one way street I look above And I know I'll always be blessed with love And as the feeling grows She breathes flesh to my bones And when love is dead I'm loving angels instead [Chorus] And through it all she offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call she won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead Thank you for reading. I have to admit up until about a year ago, I had never heard of Robbie Williams. I then ran across the version of this song at the Knebworth concert in 2003. The crowd was estimated at between 350-375K people; and Robbie finished with this song, and 350K+ people started to sing. It was an epic experience I will never forget. And listening to the lyrics, I actually started to cry; I was at the time 77 years old. If you have not listened to that particular version, do yourself a favor, it is worth your time.

I don’t know how many times I played and listened and tried to sing the song to myself today. The lyrics makes me so emotional piercing my heart. I cried while singing as I can feel all the pain, the struggles and sacrifices any person have experienced living life. No matter, when you have faith, there’s always hope! I just love it. I wish to dedicate this song to my Mom and to my daughters. I love them so much!❤

I first saw Robbie Williams whilst surfing The Graham Norton Show reruns here on KZbin. He's a fun watch, very off-the-cuff witty. I had no idea he was part of a boyband; always thought he was a solo performer. Love what I've seen of his work so far.
