The only thing that i would've done differently is i would've used delrin mounts for the undertray. I don't like welding on tube chassis and i'd try to avoid it as much as possible because each weld done, is a change to the structure. I mean, sure, ultimately a car crashed is a car crashed, but that's just my opinion. Besides, it's not like you don't have the CNC, so cutting delrin mounts would've been easy. AND BEFORE anyone says that it wouldn't hold, that's how they did it back in the groupe B days. Blocks of delrin with metal clamps on top that grabbed various non structure vital elements.

When I was building molds for a living, I hardly ever wore gloves but for welding (which I usually left to professionals), for hardening something in the oven or sometimes on the lathe or drill, when it produced long turnings (cleaning them away with a hook, I did not want them to cut my skin) and when handling sheet metal with sharp edges. Usually bare hands are what's best, if you want to clean away any residual dust, small chips from the metal parts itself, the vice or the magnet plate of your machine, so you've got clean, level surfaces to hold something as precisely as possible. So I'd clean something with compressed air, dry the rest with a rug, burr ridges with a stone or a file and wipe the grit off with my bare hands. Basically I just wore gloves, when I had to handle sharp edges and hot stuff.

I've always gone by the rule of never using gloves with a stationary tool, especially if you're moving the part by hand, but gloves are fine with handheld tools where your fingers never come close to a moving blade. I've been a CNC machinist for over 20 years, and wear nitrile gloves every day. You don't lose any dexterity, it adds another layer of skin, and actually gives a better grip on coolant soaked materials. The best part is, if it gets caught in something spinning it just rips away. You should try it.

When to wear gloves. I've been a CNC machinist for over 20 years, which ends up including all sorts of other fabrication. I ALWAYS wear a pair of sung fitting nitrile gloves when working with metal. They don't mess with dexterity, and offer you an extra layer of "skin". More cut resistant than your own skin. It's a game changer. I know these aren't the type of gloves you were referring to, but will make a huge difference when handling sharp metal, especially wet sharp metal.

Lots of people say no gloves to anything rotating as well but with drills and mills you should be working on the material clamped down anyway. In the end though, you can use gloves with any machine, just make sure you keep your hands appropriately away from the spinny/cutty bits.

Please DON"T use any gloves when working with machinery, you can find countless videos online of gloves getting caught inside drill presses/hand-drills/hand-saws, Dremel, Bandsaws. There is a video of the star from "American Chopper" TV show- he ended up getting his hand stuck inside a drill press because he wore gloves. All these people in the KZbin comments are trying to save your life, DON"T shrug it off this is very serious!

Its fairly easy to print paper templates using CAD. With some designed overlap of paper sheets with datums(circles with a cross at their center) in the overlap area for alignment it's easy to make large templates. Especially if you have a large paper printer for the shop or a print store/service with large printers near by.

I use gloves in metal work on everything except lathe, and when I'm fiddling with small stuff that the gloves are in the way, like repairing a hand tool or air tool. But the gloves I use (not for welding) are gloves that prevent cuts from metal. And are relatively thin compared to welding gloves. So they are easy to work with. :)

I wear gloves all the time, even near spinning things. The trick is getting the right gloves. 9 mil mechanic rubber gloves are great. They’ll rip rather than get caught in spinning tools. Get tighter to the skin gloves than thick welding gloves. Nitrile dipped fabric gloves are another favorite.

Grippy, cut-resistant gloves: General work, handtools, anything that doesn't involve moving machinery that could grab them, and grabbing mildly hot things for brief periods Nitrile gloves: When working with machines that could grab; protects hands from oils & metal shavings, but will tear easily if caught in something No gloves: when I forget to wear gloves

If I'm in the shop I'm usually just sporting disposable black nitril , as it prevents small cuts, oil, staining, and you can wear them under welding gloves if you are switching tasks frequently.

When I worked at a factory for summer work, I used gloves when I was running pieces through a deburring machine or had larger random pieces that needed work. For the most part, I did not use gloves because I would be working on a stack of 400-1,200 pieces at a time where they were all the same shape an I knew what it would feel like holding so I knew the best places to hold the metal. I held it so it sat in my hands using it's weight, preferably, I wouldn't have to grip the sheet too tightly. If you feel like you need to grip it tight it's more likely that it will slip and cut you (especially if the rust preventative oil is still on it) and I've been cut through gloves. Using your hands you have more dexterity ( good during hydraulic press and lathe work) and I think the most important part is knowing the piece you're working with. That's my 2 cents anyways. Love seeing the progress on the vehicle!

As an industrial electrician I am required to use gloves at all times. Kevlar gloves for cutting, fine gloves for terminating small wires and leather gloves for general use. We have a large assortment of gloves at our disposal and I really don't mind. Ill use them as long as they don't hinder my ability to do my job safely.

consider 3 separate panels will endure high stress at the joints as the air rushes pass, unless they're also bolted to the chasis at the centre. Try it it, listen for the noises then alter it if need be!!

Suggestion for the rear side of the front fender/start of the side skirt: the lower rear part of the front fender gets cut to vent air that gets trapped in the wheel arch like a lot of time attack cars have it, looks great imo and it helps a lot with front downforce.

Gloves for material handling and welding, bare hands for mills, lathes, saws, drills, rubber gloves with solvents, bare hands working with hand tools unless it's a hot car or an old rusty tractor where I'm likely to punch a frame rail when the nut goes loose, that's a job for my mpact mechanics gloves

I hope you're planning on some vents to let air coming through the radiator and intercooler back out of the engine bay out the sides or top so you don't have cooling issues. 😉 Also, I recommend Milwaukee cut resistant gloves. Super comfy and supple enough to pick up M4 x 6mm grub screws one at a time.

As a metal framer wearing gloves is paramount to a relaxed working shift. Last thing you need is some cuts, scrapes and gouges constantly reminding you as you're focusing on work. As a drywaller you don't need gloves you just need calluses. The sheetrock isn't hard enough to be bad to your hands, you get used to the dryness and you need the extra dexterity for cuts/screws. In my opinion as a mechanic you should be wearing gloves most of the time aside from finicky work with a sharpie, etc. Heck even on the bandsaw it's entirely possible for the blade to turn into shard propellant so wearing gloves can mitigate that issue immensely. Had an experience one time in shop class with wood splinters shooting into a classmate's thumb. Wear your gloves, they help you work faster! Better yet buy the most skin tight ones you can find that eventually form to your fingers that have the latex covering on the palm of hand. The literal best pair of gloves I ever bought happened to be at a gas station (they were kinda blue if I remember? Wish I did cuz I need more). They were so perfect it was like a second skin and my hands could do anything with ease and had no problem bashing them around. Washing machine safe as well! Those leather gloves you were wearing are literally for cold weather my man.

I wear Latex/Nitril gloves all time for everything in the garage. Doesn´t help that much against scraches but against all toxic things(brake cleaner, oil, dot 3 etc ) , dirt and shavings from everything. Pro you have the best feeling of all for wrenching and you can´t get catchend with them in a drill or the angle grinder or in brushes For welding of course welding gloves even though i like them in the winter while working.
