I'm sure you have a plan for this already; but if your electrical/software system can control throttle resolution/duty on the fly, you should add some code that monitors the driveline and will soften the throttle input when the car jerks slightly. With your suspension being so tight, the motion is being transferred through your foot on to the pedal, and it's causing a feedback loop. When you're under full-load it responds great though!!
@ICKY427
@ICKY427 Жыл бұрын
Right. you could probably make a "normal" mode with slower throttle response to make slow driving more bearable.
@T3ddyRuxp1n
@T3ddyRuxp1n Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure Rob knows already. He had the same issues when setting up the electronic throttle the first time, can't remember if it was the rotary vette maybe. Looks like it needs a bit more tweaking as you say.
@carlsoto1747
@carlsoto1747 Жыл бұрын
@@T3ddyRuxp1n Yeah I'm familiar with his initial coding, but this more like after X number of parameters show a jerk event, the throttle input immediately softens the input so the driver can apply more pedal to feather it out, and then immediately return to normal once the parameters clear their thresholds. Essentially, you're keeping the same % of throttle and just changing the scaling factor of the input.
@blackbriarmead1966
@blackbriarmead1966 Жыл бұрын
the same thing happens with my manual honda fit lmao. In first gear at low speed it jerks forward which lowers the throttle which makes it slow down which pushes my foot into the throttle which etc. etc.
@davidjordon145
@davidjordon145 Жыл бұрын
@@carlsoto1747 not a bad thought, but this is overcomplicating it; all one needs to do is soften the e-throttle map itself so that small inputs yield less of an output. Nothing special needed, this is how factory ECU's control throttle output.

Just be REALLY careful in Ontario. There's an old law on the books still from the "fast and furious" days. Street racing used to be INSANE in that area. So they passed a law where if you get caught street racing, police can literally send your car from the scene of an impound, straight to a crusher. They don't enforce it as much as they used to (im talking street race convoys 300 cars deep back in those days).but still. Just be really careful out there dude.

"work of art" is absolutely on the mark. Not just a work of art, but a work of art with an absolute ripper's heart. What he's realized is not just his own vision, but in my opinion, something that every RX-7 and rotary engine aficionado can not just appreciate and love, but be actually inspired by. Like the Formula 7 dude. Both 4 rotors are absolute monsters. I'd love to see these two do an exhibition race on like, hmmm, Laguna Seca? Yeah, Laguna Seca. The sound alone would be mind melting. 🤌

I doubt this hasn't been said before, but easily one of my favorite parts about this build (Appearance-wise) is just how _stock_ it looks. Don't get me wrong, it's obviously not; anyone can see that. But I really love how you haven't bolted some crazy aggressive carbon wing or something like that on the car. You even kept the popups, and they're functional. It resembles a stock FD surprisingly well. Incredible attention to detail, and I'm so glad you've kept the beautiful silhouette of this car's original form intact, while also hiding one of the most insane drivetrains known to man beneath. I love this build.
@Tora1337
@Tora1337 Жыл бұрын
Yesss! This! I agree. I mean, it certainly doesn't look stock, there's immediately something different about it, obviously, it's the aggressive, wide, cat-like stance, the extended nose, but not over-much, just enough, but the way he put it together so clean it really doesn't look much different than what you'd expect from a super or hyper car manufacturer. F'n Gorgeous. Can't be over-stated. And the little touches, Isaiah is an absolutely beast fabricator. Much respect. That exhaust management is over the damn top, especially as custom it is, with all the rotor shapes and such. And that sound. Oh that sound. So good.

@@Tora1337 That's exactly what I mean! There's not a single part of the body kit that isn't "functional", or rather necessary. The car has to be stretched to incorporate the AWD system, and it has to be widened to incorporate the larger wheels. But yet, the original lines are still very much intact. Most builds are either all function or all form, but this one is both.
@Tora1337
@Tora1337 Жыл бұрын
@@miata_man5632 Yes, exactly. He obviously prioritized function, but there's still obvious a vision with the form, and that was a vision true to the roots of the RX-7, and that's really why I love this build. It's wild, but it's not apparently wild. Very clean. It honestly carries a genuine hyper-car vibe. I think the stretch was less the all wheel drive, and more the 4 rotor though. Plus he completely redesigned the front and rear suspension utilizing the cantilever design, so there's that too. It's the only way this thing fits everything and stays low like it is. 😁
@beetledrift
@beetledrift Жыл бұрын
Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think I like how the widebody is shaped. In certain angles the shape off the car looks ‘off’ to me. Maybe that is because the intended design is to keep the stock look? Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of the car.

The driving scene at night when Joel and Isaiah passed him and you could catch the quickest glimpse of the biggest smile ever on this man's face brings me so much excitement for the future with my own car. Granted I'm not going to this level but I do know I'm gonna have a big smile on my face when I make that first pull after I get a supercharger installed on my mustang. Rob has been one of the single biggest influences in my love and passion for car coming back to the forefront of my life. I went through a really rough patch where all I did was move from point a to point b in something that I hated. Rob has brought me back to where I was before that. He has honestly helped rebuild my passion for cars and he's never said a word to me. Rob if you read this I just want to say thank you, for being the person you are, and for documenting your experiences and sharing them with all of us along the way. I love seeing the pure smile on robs face when he is just driving it around. The happiness you get from something you worked so hard on is insane. He put unbelievable time into this car and it’s a beautiful masterpiece. I’ve done mini projects that took me hours and the feeling I get makes me feel amazing but I couldn’t imagine how great rob feels. So proud of you man, I was as equally as quiet while you were just soaking up the experience while cruising around

Any plans for fresh air antilag using a TurboSmart ALV40 or even the electronic eALV40? From what I've seen they're insanely effective at keeping shaft speed all the way up (100k+), until revs drop below say 3k on a smaller engine, so off throttle in the powerband you're always spooled ready to go. Plus, contrary to popular belief they actually decrease EGTs when set up right due to cold (relative to the exhaust gas), compressed air from the turbo entering the exhaust. Just reduce bearing lifespan etc for obvious reasons. Great value for money and not something you see every day.

I've been watching you work this car for a number of years now (not entirely from the beginning, but well before you got this whole gaggle of shop-cats 😆 ... Those cats are great by the way), and the journey has been magnificent!. I'm freaking over the moon, watching this monster rip down the street, AND seeing that huge grin on your face as your vision for this car has shown to be an ever evolving reality as you thought it could be and even better, even as it doesn't seem to like driving so slow. However, I know for a fact, as excited as I am for the future of this, it pales in comparison no doubt to your elation that your build, which turned out absolutely hyper-car sick so far, is actually street-able to the degree it is. The only improvement I could see you could make is possibly adding bags to your suspension such that you can give it a slight lift to get in and out of driveways without having to do the super slow angles so as not to rip off your front bumper fascia, or scrape the underside over speedbumps. That said, it's been both a pleasure and honor watching you do the rotary engine not just justice, but offering it some redemption, as I believe it's probably the most misunderstood powerplant in the world. That build is ready to embarrass pretty much every super-car manufacturer in the world. Ken Block should be on notice. 😆 So, when's the Hoonicorn re-match? Keep keeping it real Rob, like you've always done, such a genuine, friendly and humble dude, and I am really happy to see your vision come to fruition in such a beautiful way. Now get a floor pan in the rear, to help protect yourself both from road debris and any sort of issues you can have mechanically. Nobody wants to see you injured. Holy crap this comment is long. In any case man, super stoked to see it on the street, it is... Beautiful. 🤌Rotary love = Best love.
