Rob those K-type thermocouples are not resistance type temp sensors, those would be RTD's. You can change the lenth of the wires without affecting the readings. The most important part is making sure you have the right conductors from start to finish, like you mentioned, the alumel and chromel pins.

If you machine the oil pan, make it out of a thick slab of aluminium, and make the bottom look like a lattice so that it gives mahoosive rigidity at just a slightly bigger weight penalty. The lattice will also cool the pan better as they'll catch air (if you pass it through the engine bay and have an exit port down under).

That creates drag
@RChero1010
@RChero1010 Жыл бұрын
The amount of surface area available just by machining fins onto the oil sump plate would contribute a little bit to the oil cooling, but you do realize they have actual oil cooling heat exchangers mounted behind the bumper, right? They've shown them dozens of times. I'm honestly more surprised they don't have a thermostat to close one or both of the coolers when the oil's not warm enough with how much cooling they have (maybe they even have added a thermostat for the oil and I don't remember). Also to Dylan's point, the drag can be reduced with efficient ducting but yes, this would affect the aero performance. The entire vehicle has a flat bottom for a number of reasons and disrupting that too much defeats the benefits.
@kasuraga
@kasuraga Жыл бұрын
@@RChero1010 oh wow no t-stats on the oil cooler? When i was planning on putting an external cooler on my car everything I read said you absolutely should put a tstat on it if you want your oil to stay at optimal temp more reliably and reduce warm up times.

You could pass the wires that go close to the hot zones pass through a tube in tube heat separator. NASA had a very similar thing for some of their heat probes. I don't know what the metal was, might've been anything from aluminium to inconel, but what i do know is that the tubes were separated by ceramic spacers. If you can find some ceramic rings (pretty common in various electronic applications, so you could even ask for a free sample from a manufacturer and get enough to make a few tubes) you could then either machine or find tubes that fit the specs. Mind you, the tube separator (altho not as elaborate) is as old as cars are. If you look at various antique ICE vehicles from the era, you'll see the tubes.

You were extremely lucky making the retaining "C" clip out of welding wire, I'm surprised it worked. I had a bad experience when I reused the stock retaining clip on my old FWD car. The part was out of stock locally and I was eager to get back behind the wheel. My CV axle ended up popping out of the transmission and egg-shaping the spline. I thought I lost a gear (which has happened to me before) until I tried up-shifting. The transmission wouldn't engage in any gear so I knew then it wasn't a simple roadside fix. I ended up having the car towed from Reseda to the El Monte area where I lived at the time. It led to me spending thousands on replacement parts and labor. I attempted to do the repairs myself but had issues cracking open the transmission case. I wish I had access to the factory service manual at that time. My impatience and ignorance led to a costly repair and over a month of downtime. I later replaced that car with my RWD 13b MSP RX-8 which is my track only. It gets expensive running idemitsu premix and race fuel for a daily driver, I get less gas mileage than a modern-day V-8.

The thermocouple generates a voltage based on temperature. Not a varying resistance. This is is why it's hard to extend Them. If you connect it to a copper Cable it is actually a second temperature sensor at the connection point. Because two different metals connected to eachother generate a voltage based on temperature. Kind of like a battery.

With the dual brushless pumps, be mindful of backflow through the pumps if you're staging them, or not matching their flow at all times; many of the brushless bumps like the Ti ELM don't have an internal check valve, so when using multiple you either need to manually check valve their output, or be careful with the control strategy.

Those temperature sensors for the exhaust seem to be thermocouples. If that is the case, the way you explained it is not quite correct. These are made by joining two different metals at the point you want to measure temperature. In this case the colour code fur US -yellow- would be nickle and chrome nickle. The resistance of these is not what is of importance. They put out a small voltage in the range of millivolts based on the temperature difference of the couple itself and the comparison point (in most cases some kind of evaluation device, e.g. the ecu). You use wires and connectors with the same electrical properties as the thermocouple to make sure the voltage doesnt get manipulated too much by the wire connection. They get used a lot in high temperature applications because they can withstand that much better than PT sensors or other resistance changing sensors. Hope that helped a little bit and sry for spelling errors, I'm not a native english speaker.
