I dont think theres a greater sign of respect for an artist than robert glasper covering your song and not changing very much

Been feeling in a funk recently & have lost passion for my own art/music for awhile. A little bit stress, a little bit working night shift and missing daylight... anyhow, I hadn’t smoked in years (high school which was about ten years ago) and I bought some cbd/thc stuff to try and sleep earlier once I was done editing for work. Took it a little earlier to see if it even did anything towards the tail end of my catalog of photos. I ended up going down memory lane with music while I edited. I started enjoying the work & went on a Radiohead binge which was a good part of my teenage/smoking years & an influence musically. I was feeling nostalgic and a bit sad about not playing for most of the year & y’all came on with this song. This is a very long-winded thank you 🙏 y’all put the little flame back on the candlestand & feel much gratitude. Godspeed & look forward to seeing you play in you’re ever in the IE/so cal

Was driving through a calm, moonless night in Toronto, just stumbled upon the local jazz station 91.1 FM...when this came on. And for me, the night lit up and came alive. Have been a Robert Glasper fan ever since.

That solo has some ideas that remind me of the way Brad Mehldau solos. He's got some really groovy radiohead covers as well.

They're both amazing. As someone who's not a big jazz listener, I really appreciate that both of them stay grounded and don't try to show off. They'll throw in a fast run or an interesting chord substitution here and there, but it's always musical.
@pighater9514 жыл бұрын
@@rome8180 mehldaus not on this level sorry dude just facts I'ma keyboard player !! What instrument you play? Do you even know music or your just a casual Listener?🤣😂😁👍
@harrisonbrand89853 жыл бұрын
@@pighater951 how can you say that about mehldau? mehldau is leagues above glasper in other respects, maybe you don't prefer his covers, but come on. listen to the mehldau trio work or his stuff with joshua redman over the years, compared to a lot of glasper's more straight-ahead jazz where he tends to repeat ideas a ton. not to mention having seen glasper live in multiple settings- he can be such a boring and lazy live player sometimes especially if he isn't filming/recording, and i'm not the only one to say that. i love so much of glasper's work, but to say mehldau isn't on his level is crazy.

I once talked to a religious person, he explained how he felt at church, how he had some kind of emotion stirring deep within him. I thought immediately that's what music and sometimes other arts triggers within me. Radiohead, who created this music, have not expressed religious conviction, but I agree, this music stirs me.

Awesome version. But you have to understand that the timbre of Thom Yorke's voice ENTIRELY makes the song on the original. I'm not sure it could have been done justice with another vocalist; better to leave it instrumental and let the composition speak for itself.
