The four candidates are TERRIBLE. Couldyou trust any of these hypocrites with babysitting your kids. Jendrick's lurch to the right, Badenoch's lurch into the mental asylum, Tugenhat's ridiculous new stance on the ECHM and Cleverly's riposte to nominative determinism. CLOWN SHOW, anyone? Badenoch, in particular, is an especially asinine. Jendrick is clearly a sociopath. I might have had time for Turgenhat, but his recent statements have indicated that he will say anything to appeal to the right (or, more properly, 'the wrong').

There is a lot of space opening up for Lib Dems. Tories going further and further Right, Labour going further and further into its Hard Brexit embrace.

It's not whether the conference was depressing, it's whether it's in touch with reality or not. If they're perkily insisting everything is fine when it isn't, then that's actually worse than if it felt like a morgue in there.

Implicitly accusing UK Special Forces of murdering suspected terrorists as a matter of course was not Jenrick's best move.

Less depressing mainly because they do not view their wretched tenure in government as having been disastrous for the country and with Labour parrot-fashion like stating the obvious and their own own-goals, they, the Tories have adopted a 'nothing wrong with us' approach. The four contenders are mediocre. The front runner is actually Jenrick who resigned to give himself the best possible chance of becoming leader but was a very average minister. The Fantastic Four are very ill advised, if at all, as either Johnson or Morduant will be gifted a seat and will usurp whoever wins in the two years before an election, which is the optimum period. Johnson is therefore favourite to lead the Tories into the next election as the members will be desperate for someone who can take on Farage and win bringing back dissenting Tories. History is on his side, he and his supporters will think: - He won an election with an 80+ majority and did not lose as Sunak. - He can return as his hero did, Churchill in 1951, unite the Tories and sweep all before him. - The electorate is gullible and should Labour be correct and we indeed have five years of pain then Johnson will be the antidote.

Don't worry about the Lib-Dems. The only people who vote Lib-Dem are people who would prefer to vote for Labour or the Greens. It's Reform the Conservatives have to worry about, If they are still around in 2029 then the Conservatives will not win, no matter how bad Labour are.

Really nice to see just Rachel Cunliffe, Andrew Marr and George Eaton for a change, without Hannah Barnes. Personal preference - Hannah Barnes is amazing and talented, but for me it hasn't gelled yet in terms of the chemistry of the conversation. It doesn't feel as relaxed as this. Perhaps over time it will.

I smell a rat. I believe certainly Andrew Marr isn't going to say a thing that helps the Tories. Not sure why but he's latched on to Starmer. He points to Cleverly because he is looking to promote someone who will never outdo Starmer. When the Tories do have a leader - who is not ready yet - Tom Tugendhat. Tugendhat is very self-focused - he hasn't grasped that his military leadership is a CV thing - not the way to show he understands the UK people and their circumstances. But that's a small thing - if he got past himself in that area he has the principles and qualities of a great leader - someone with a great deal more substance than the other candidates.
