Strangely, Polypropylene is not a resin. And I am not sure on your thoughts on the stopwatch etc buttons not being waterproof. I think there's a membrane mounted between their outer and inner part. And, don't watches stand a smaller chance of getting damaged, hit scratched, when they are worn on the inside of the wrist?
@kareim275 жыл бұрын
Wearing the watch on the inside today, in the business environment, means seeing the time without the very obvious turn of the wrist which in many cultures and in general business environments may come across as boredom, or a passive aggressive show of disinterest.

Yeah, I used to switch my watch (not a Casio) to the inside during certain meetings at my last company (the cure for insomnia). Even taught a few coworkers to do it. About a thousand years ago I was in the military and watched other guys do that on our first field training exercise. I just copied what they did. It is good light discipline and does make it easier to check the time when you're holding your rifle. BUT, as an office jockey now, I know will scratch the hell out of the watch pulling desk duty.

The Mueller watch! I was wondering what that el cheapo was he was wearing old school bezel saver style. FYI, the accordion aspect of these straps are for expansion over a wetsuit. It's a 200m water resistant watch making it very capable of diving. Nobody is going 200m anyway but 50m is very deep for air diving. Very thoroughly reviewed!
@WondersofWatchdom5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Although the watch can go to 200m, it doesn't have the fail-safes (ex. screw on caseback) to warrant a scuba classification. That's why Casio describes "diving" for this watch as "skin diving." But you're right, most divers will never dive to 200m in their lifetimes! My comment that the accordion wrist strap is for shock absorption comes straight from Casio: "The band actually acts as a shock absorber itself, protecting against shocks from behind. We have established strict standards for the combination ratio of urethane resin employed. Neither too soft nor too hard, the superb specified combination realizes an ideal balance between shock resistance and comfortable wear-ability." The accordion area is quite rigid and doesn't really expand more than 5-6 millimeters, even if you pull really hard on the strap.

In the 80's, as a teen, I was always a fan of the Timex Ironman. I just loved the way it looked. When this Casio came out in the early 90's, I remember the buzz it made. All of my friends got one. I never did. It just never 'looked' aesthetically appealing to me. I think it was the teal blue, columbia red markings, on the front face. It just always looked 'cheap' to me. I always suspected it was actually a better watch than an Ironman...but I don't really know if it actually is. The Ironman...just always looked 'tougher', to me. Maybe...I will try out a Casio. I just know though, I will have trouble getting past the 'cheap' look of it.

@shinobi53714 жыл бұрын
Most military guys wear it inwards, as-it can stop reflective glare on your screen to give the enemy your location, as well as when your holding your MK you can clearly see it without letting go, whilst in mid assault or in an aiming stationary position. But most importantly, when you get bored in board meetings you can check the time covertly without being rude.lol
@tristanholland64452 жыл бұрын
I'd have to disagree it's about 50/50. It's just personal preference really. It also depends upon the persons job and duty. I know Infantry and other combat vets that wear the watch on the inside and others on the outside. Even in Vietnam there were solutions to the crystal shining which were straps that covered the crytal and was lifted when the wearer needed to see the time. I was in the Air Force and again it varied from person to person. In my career feild we worked on the flight line and the Air Force being highly concerned about FOD you could not wear a watch on the flight line nor while working on equipment. This was two fold one was because the watch was a potential arch point for electrical energy the second was if it fell off for some reason it could get lost inside equipment and cause a delay until found. However I needed to tell time so I strapped the watch to a belt loop tightly and when needed glanced at it.

I own a DW-290 and think it’s a great watch. Mueller’s ownership of a DW-290 was in no way a selling point.

11:50 Are you still sure that it might not be convenient for scuba diving? I've read somewhere that NASA team (astronauts, engineers and scientists) used it on their NEEMO mission.
@WondersofWatchdom3 ай бұрын
They did use them for the undersea mission, but the divers were inside a diving bell. It’s possible that the watch would be okay for diving, but the official user manual for the watch says, “Do not use this watch for scuba diving or other types of diving that requires air tanks.” Thanks for watching and commenting!

Wait... The dw5600 lacks history in comparison?.. Like, a refreshment of the 1983 giant g shock breaktrough and the epic film/media/military attention.. how is that not history? If you can show me the classical side of the dw290 i'd be pleasantly surprised sir :) Greetz!

Also the DW5600 was one of the few watches certified by NASA for space flight.

And the dw5600 holds the record for the heaviest vehicle to drive over a watch with no damage. I think it was a 20,000 pound truck.

What a fantastic rundown.

i think that's the cheapest and toughest watch you can get. at around $25 in my country it's really a no brainer if you're looking for a watch as a beater or daily driver through mud. the next choice would be the dw5600e for about $20 more. i don't agree when you said dw5600e (or the 5000 series in general) lacks history. it's lineage can be traced back to the first g shock in 1983 (dw5000c).

“The 5600 lacks the history of the 2900”?? Bro, what planet did you come from??

This one: I just don’t think it does. But several people beat you to this sentiment and comment already. Lol

@@WondersofWatchdom Robert Mueller and Tom Cruise may have worn the 2900, but always remember that Keanu Reeves wore the 5600 in the original “Speed”.

Solid summary, except for: pre-programmed until the year 2029 (actually depends on module), and suitable for recreational scuba diving (not according to Casio. This is for diving without tanks, according to both the manual and Casio directly),

@@WondersofWatchdom i copied those specs from the listing in Amazon. But this may explain the difference.. all that I can find about this watch lists it as a Casio DW290-1V. Would the "1V" designation be an upgrade?

In my line of work, Dog grooming. I wore inside the wrist for a few d ays and it got caught on everything. Outside the wrist works for me. I always wanted to know the model of this watch. I liked them cause they are in the TV show Stargate.
