May I say how really tired I am of people asking „what can I do to get my puppy to stop biting?“ WTH...it‘s a PUPPY! What do people expect? Yes, structure, a crate, and giving the pup appropriate chew toys, teach a soft mouth, and then just wait...have patience. It is the MOST NORMAL THING IN THE WORLD for all puppies to bite and be mouthy, people. If I had a puppy that did not bite, I would be worried. Yes, some breeds bite more than others...I‘m a GSD person, and there is a reason they are called land sharks. But they all get over it in a few months. Folks, do your research before getting a puppy! Robert, you are always spot on!

liroon levy your dog is plenty old enough for a correction right now. Also the biting at this stage is more than likely your lack of structure

mattystewart8 whats a right correction for this. And we are working on structure but hes a big husky and im getting everyone in the house on board with what needs to be done. Its hard when you love with people who haven’t had a puppy either ever or in 18 years+

liroon levy put him on a long line or a leash and give him a pop on the leash when he is biting. At six months old he is learning bad habits now.

Robert, I just want to thank you for all your advice in puppy training... He’s already potty trained at 11 weeks, yes there’s the odd mistake, but that’s my fault as I have a busy life. He sits, he waits for his food and lead training went soo well. So he walks by my side, which took 15min or so. He’s very good and socialising with people and other dogs. He’s a Jack Russell called Watson. This is just the tip of the iceberg of how good he is. I spend about 15min or more per day training for new things, and continued potty and sitting with lots of play at the end of the day. The only problem I can see that I’m making for myself is when I leaving him, he starts to get anxious. This is not a question for your channel but just a big big thank you for all your advice and encouragement. I’m in the process of dealing with the separation Kind regards Mark

This is just what I needed! Have had about 10 GSDs and other breeds throughout my life but they were either already grown when I was born or we took home adult dogs - family worked in a police dog training center in Northern Europe... we actually had a GSD (Kora) from a German police center so I had to learn the commands in German when I was little! BUT I'm getting my very own first puppy next week and really needed some advice for young dogs - this was perfect, so thank you very much!!! Very very sensible advice... this will help people bring up well balanced companions!

I’ve adopted a golden retriever had her about 8 weeks, she’s now 6mths old. By watching your videos I’m learning so much from you. Due to my ignorance I’ve not supplied a crate as yet, I’m about to introduce one now. I wish I’d introduced her to one when I first got her, but I figure it’s better to start now at 6mths than to not use a crate at all. I’ve been teaching and training her with the basics like sit, down, stay and walking on the leash. We’re starting with professional training in October through the Australian National Dog Trainers Federation. This pup has a fantastic nature and loves people and other animals, she’s gentle and responds to most people in a really positive way. So through the ANDTF I hope to train her up to be a therapy and assistance dog as I work in aged care and disability wish to be able to take her into hospital and aged care homes to assist my patients. My questions are A- do you think starting crate training at 6mths will go ok? and B- do you think starting formal training at 7mths will be ok? I’m fearful by not giving formal training other than basic sit, down, stay, come before now I’ve missed out on valuable time, what’s your thoughts? Thanks Kim from Sydney Australia

Thank you for your videos. I just found you yesterday. I am pretty decent at training. But it’s been a while. I was looking for help with a certain thing. After seeing your take on that. I’ve not slept tonight. It is 6 a m. Today my puppy learns her place. From there the couch. She just wants to understand what I want from her. I’ve been so busy that I’ve slacked lately so I am not getting irritated and cause damage ya know. But thanks again

QUESTION: 9 week old boxer puppy. Been following your puppy videos and crate training video. Angus goes in and eats his treats and goes back in with lures no issue. He handles the gate latched fine. I walk away like to the kitchen to cook and as soon as he loses my attention he goes bonkers. Barking, yelping, biting at kennel door. What do I do to get him to calm, ignore and let him bark it out, talk to him? Seems this creates anxiety and a bad kennel experience. Thanks for any advice!

The lady with the Boerboel puppy should not use such harsh correction tools. I'm a lady too and have a dogue de bourdeaux who was also a strong puppy and like all puppies wanted to get ahead of me on walks but a simple slip lead and consistent calm correction worked very well (after a few months of it). Now my dog is an adult and walks by my side always and I find the slip lead (thicker one) positioned up high on the neck provides enough control even if the dog reacts to something. Dogs can get into the habit of fighting through the stress of harsher tools and can find it harder to relax on the walk. The walk should be an enjoyable experience for both dog and owner.

my 12 week old puppy belgian malinois doesn't sleep 20 hours a day like you said in the video.. do you think i don't take her on the long enough walks? we go out for approximetly one hour per day.. is that not enough? how much is enough for a puppy and how much for an adult dog? i am scared that she hurts her legs if we walk for too long. thanks

Ajtim Menbru walking a pup too much while development could be harmful. I guess playing tug could tire it out but not too rough. This is what I’ve heard from other malinois owners. My advice should be taken after someone else’s.

She is very good with my kids took a lot of work but when they nagg her to much she vocalize her contemp . I limit the time of their interaction and correct here when she becomes vocalize, I also mantain hirrarchy status, but I want to get here in the end to the point of completely tolerating their behavior do you have any points on the matter?

I have a question. My dog is an adult rescue. Hard life before I picked up 10 days ago. He is terrified of going for a walk in the small town where I live. He’s ok in the country. As soon as I open the gate to do a short, 2 minutes, to get him used to it he cowers and backs away. I’m asking here because I guess I should treat am as a puppy because I don’t think he has been socialised, Thanks

Someone has trouble moving from sitting to standing and would like a dog to help with moving forward to assist them into a standing position (person is less than 140lbs) and retrieve items for the person. Would getting a dog be advisable? Also what kind?

CRATE POOP HELP PLEASE!!!!! Our 9 week old rescue puppy appears to have learnt to go poop in his crate while at a foster carer. It's not by accident, he goes there on purpose to do it. How can we train him out of it? He's a cocker cross pup about 15" long. His crate is 17x20x22" - is it simply too big or is there something else at work here? Thanks in advance. Adam.
@sharons495
@sharons495 4 жыл бұрын
Could be your crate is too big. Crate should be only just big enough for pup to lie down and turn around. Another cause: bedding in crate. Have no bedding at all. Another cause: you don't take him for regular potty breaks (during day they can go 1+how many months they are (in hours). Overnight they can go longer, but make sure they don't eat within two hrs of bedtime.

@@RobertCabralDogs interesting. My dog is a 4 month old malinois and when she's out of her crate, we play at the park and so all sort of fun things, but in the off chance that she is calm for a second I like to give her some affection, rub her belly, and pet her date I day cuddle with her... My logic (which could be wrong) is that if I give her affection which she likes when she's calm, that will teach her if she's calm she gets that.

Love that I stumbled across your page. And I agree--women can be better trainers. 😂😂 My dachshund (wiener dog) trained my Banter (boxer/AM staff) puppy. It was amazing & funny. To the “bully breed”, the doxie was her “big sister” and they had a great relationship. My niece just brought me a boxer/“pit” mix yesterday & I’m in love. Just wish my doxie wasn’t so old now so I’d have her motherly supervision with this little guy. Of course the wiener dog is a VERY stubborn/smart breed. They are actually banned in most cities here in Arkansas! Also, I talk Spanish to my dogs & to my friend's dogs. If she tells them something they may not listen, but they hear it in Spanish & things change.
