Robert, your practical advice is always indispensable. My problem was a passenger door on my 1998 C70 that would not lock. By watching your videos, I knew the actuator was broken. Besides the cost, the actuator was difficult to remove without taking out the entire window mechanism. Your description of how the actuator worked, allowed me to do the opposite and simply moved the lock mechanism to be always locked. The driver's door is still functional, so it's simple to unlatch the passenger door from inside. Thank you from a 52+ year Volvo owner and DIY mechanic.

Robert, When I sent a message to fcp euro.. here’s what they told me- 1-door lock assembly 2-door lock actuator motor 3- disconnected door latch rod. I had contacted them, because my 1994 Volvo 850 turbo front passenger door won’t open from inside... I’m going with number 3.... but all of the 3 above are in back order....

The x70 cars have a different door latch system. I believe I told you it was the door latch rod like in the video I mentioned for Ando. Did you watch that video?

I’m thinking the same thing, door latch rod... And I watched that video... A friend of mine, kept slamming the door.. I told her to stop, And I firmly believe, it knocked it loose, or broke it...none the less, I have to buy the part, and pay for labor, 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️-

I have tried pushing the brass tab with a screwdriver and my door will still not release. I can feel the mechanism moving but the door won't pop. Any tips on how to approach it from here? Thank you so much.

Robert, I have a similar problem with my 1997 Volvo V70 and I have tried all of the methods you mentioned in your videos and neither one of those weren't working for me. My guess is that the latch has two lock positions and it has been locked to the second one but I don't have any glue how to open it without breaking the whole door. Any tips you have or suggestions you would recommend? I would be very happy if you could help me.

Hey Robert , If I could get your opinion , I have a '98 S70 , about 150,000 miles on it . I went to the store ... doing about 65-70 mph no problem. Parked the car. when I made my purchase and going home the car started fine , but when I put it on reverse and give it some gas it hesitated and died . Waited about 10 min and tried again .... I was able to get it home ... about 15 miles away , but could not give it much gas because it would " sputter or hesitate " only able to do about 20 mph . but still idles fine . Thanks for your input ! Henry

Does the car have a CEL? Have you had it scanned for codes? Is the car turbo? Just taking a WAG, I'd say you have a bad MAF.

My car would some times die, or not start... And it was the fuel pump relay. Usually when letting off of the gas.

hi Robert - I can see that plastic wing at the bottom IS moving down when I unlock the latch. I am pushing on the correct tab as you describe, but the door still won't pop open. I notice the tab does not appear to be in the same straight up and down position as it looks in your video, but seems to be at an angle. (working on left rear door, V70 wagon) ~ Dan

The car does have a turbo ...GLT 70 ... I have not had it scanned, I don't know what CEL or MAF mean ? I ordered parts for basic maintenance , plugs +wires, rotor, distributor cap , fuel + Air-Filter .... I was reading about "automatic throttle assembly " but don't want to jump there before trying the easy stuff . Thanks for your reply !

Hi Hank, I really don't know what problem you are talking about. Anyway, CEL is "Check Engine Light". MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor". What year is the car?

Robert, thank you so much for your helpful videos. The "Brass Tab trick" worked perfectly on my 1999 Volvo V70 passenger door, however, because there are several broken parts in the drivers side latch, it didn't work. I have pushed and pulled everything I can but nothing has worked.I am now trying to understand exactly how the latch releases because all of the mechanisms connected to it are disconnected or broke (for example, the inside door handle cable is just dangling!)What actually causes the latch to release? Thank you

Robert, yes, I have watched that video several times, that is where I learned to push on the brass tab. This video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH3Vm5poa7qVepY) was even more helpful because of the latch examination. Pressing the Brass Tab didn't work on the drivers side so I am trying to figure out exactly what makes the latch swing into place. I am going to try to find the black "fly" piece you talked about in this video and try to pull it down. thank you. Do you have any other Latch Examination videos or do you know what exactly releases the latch? I am beginning to think it must be something inside the housing that I cannot see.

Hi Robert I need your opinion about a bad incident with my volvo c70 2.3T 1998. Due to a broken line (the one on the top) to the oil cooling the oil lamp came on about 5 km from home. I slowed down and drove the 5 km. The last one almost with no oil in the engine. The coolant temp did not rise above the normal at all. Do you think the engine is junk or its worth giving a try to repair the line and crank it up? If so do you have some advice before cranking it? Thanks!
@RobertDIY

I don't understand why you did not pull over. A tow is a lot cheaper than a motor. Besides that, if the car was still running, there is a good chance that the motor is still good. Repair the line, change the oil, start and run the car for 10 - 15 minutes. Then change the oil and filter. I have read of some good results and some bad. Were you running full synthetic oil?

There is a good chance that you are ok. After you change the line and change the oil you can do a compression test to check the health of the motor. How to do a compression test on a car motor. Volvo 850, S70, V70 through 1998 - Auto Repair Series

Robert, I was referring to an article(forum) on Mathew's volvo entitled: 98 V70 Driver's door won't open. I thought you had written a link on it-but you didn't. (it was another forum I read your link. I therefore, assumed you knew what I was referring to. Anyway, good day. I ordered all my parts!!!!$400. I am going to replace a few sensors-cam position, ETCS, oil pressure sensor , etc. Do I have to do anything beside just replacing the old one? like adjust something or reset something??? Michael
@RobertDIY
@RobertDIY 10 жыл бұрын
I do not know what all you ordered. So I don't understand your question "Do I have to do anything besides just replace the old one?" You mentioned several parts and I told you that you likely had a bad oil pick up which requires the oil pan be dropped.

Hi Robert, I'm trying to analyze what really happened to my tranny in my 96 Volvo 850 after doing all the basic cleaning and changing. The last dillema. Is there a transmission relay on this model?if not where does it's electricity connect?

Hey Robert, I'm kind of running out of options here.. I cleaned the PNP switch already, when it did not work, I changed it. I did all the things that people posted on you tube about possible ways to get my tranny going. Today, I pulled out my TCM because it would not display any trouble codes. 3 different scanners have been used and no clue was given, could it be electrical? Relay? Wiring? Where do I start? I know you don't like transmissions. Thanks for making time man. God bless.

You need a Volvo specific scanner to get tranny codes. Take it to the dealer or a Volvo mechanic and have them check it out.

I've watched a lot of your videos and have used a lot of what you've said to slowly restore my 95' 850. But I'm stuck with a puzzle.. All of my doors open from the out side. But none of them will open from the inside. I took off the door panels and the springs are still connected. It's a part in each of my actual door latches?
@RobertDIY
@RobertDIY 9 жыл бұрын
Matt Stoudt I can't imagine that all of your door handle cables are broken. It's either the latch cables or latches themselves. Like the child safety latch is on. Are you referring to the back doors?

Yes, I ordered the oil seals kit. I was referring to the sensors I listed: Cam position sensor, Engine coolant temperature sensor and oil pressure sensor. I was asking if I just replace them and that's it . or is there anything I have to do /adjust etc. I also ordered a heater core , a lock actuator, oil cap. reservoir cap, plugs ect... Other than the lock I have the oil light on and the coolant loss issues.
