Hi Robert: Thanks so much for getting back to me. With your help, I have figured out what to do to hopefully get my V70xc back in good-running condition. Here is my plan: 1. COOLANT ISSUE: Well, there is definitely wetness on the driver's floor which could be nothing but a leaking heater core. (windows have never been left open) It's difficult to believe it could leak as much as the amount of coolant I have lost-but I'm hoping that's the answer. I have ordered a heater core from the EBay place you recommended.... $39.00. 2.DOOR: I guess a body shop is my only choice. don't know what to expect. Before I do that I am going to break up the actuator while it's still attached. I ordered a used one from EBAY. I have nothing to lose so ripping it out may lead to being able to open the door?? 3. OIL LIGHT: I am going to order a oil pressure sensor, oil cap, and oil sump seal kit from eEuroparts. 4. STICKER/CODES ISSUE: When I had the car inspect a few years ago- I got the following codes:1. P0202- Injector circuit malfunction cylinder 2; P0302- cylinder 2 misfire detected; 3. 1237- fuel pump secondary circuit malfunction. 4. 0013 - "B" camshaft position actuator circuit (bank 1). 5. P1332- CVVT Valve(note free warranty)??? 5. That was 4 years ago. I didn't have the money to fix it so I have driven it ever since but haven't pushed it. I've driven 9,000. miles and other that a slight detect of the misfire - it's been okay?/... 6. I replace the coil and plug in cylinder 2 last August hoping to cure the misfire. Didn't work. 7. This past December my oil light and coolant light came on and have bee on and off since. 8. Went to Autozone a few weeks ago and had the use the OBDII: Results were: a. P0202- fuel injector circuit condition injector number 2. b. P0302-cylinder misfire detected cylinder 2. c. they said a third code read dealer code and there machine couldn''t read it but a garage machine could. They also said I could have the injector inspected at a garage also. ??? I'm assuming this one is the cam position sensor. ( I have a note on the slip CPS 200-250- can't remember why I wrote it? 9. I am also going to order an cam position sensor $$$., engine coolant temperature sensor, reservoir cap (green). Please review and advise, if you'd be so kind. I do appreciate it tremendously. Hey Michael, sounds like a good plan. The heater core can leak out all of your coolant in minutes and cause the engine to over heat and blow the head gasket/motor. People do it every day with these cars. It is the main reason most of them are in the junk yard. If you have a bad fuel injector or connection to it, it can cause a misfire. The injector can be tested by a shop. You can pull the rail, the injector, and swap them around and see if the problem follows. Make sure the injector is plugged in all the way.

Robert - we successfully opened the door and replaced the latch assembly from a donor S70. I'll add some more lessons learned from that later. Ended up going through the back door and removing the handle/lock screws, removing the handle, breaking the plastic over the pawls... However, I didn't disconnect the battery before removing the seat. If I had watched your seat removal video, I'd have known... I now have the "SRS" airbag light on. Any suggestions or do I need to take it to a shop? Disconnect battery and let it sit for a while? Thanks!

I haven't gone through with any measures to fix it yet because its pretty terrible weather outside. I'm wondering though in general do you think I will need to replace any parts in this scenario to get the door back to working 100% or is this generally a jamming issue that can be fixed with proper lubrication? Everything with the latch is working fine except now the key doesn't work in the door. I cant unlock or lock it via the keyhole which is a problem because its the only way I have lock and unlock the car. Any thoughts? Thanks

You missed the hole to get the key arm in the latch. I have done it a few times myself. If you look at the back of the door, there is a small rubber plug at the same level as the key on the door. You have to pull that plug and guide the arm into the latch. Chinese jig saw puzzle.

Robert I got a 98 v70 and the tailgate latch is stuck in closed position so when try to close it, it just the bar its supposed to go around. I've tried wiggling the child safety back and fourth, pulling handle and using screw driver but nothing seems to work.

Reminds me when I got my 5 series both the rear doors were permanently locked. Had to wedge the longest screw driver I've ever seen behind the door card and place the tip onto a tiny plastic clip that connected the central locking motor to the lock and smash it with a hammer. Worked a treat could unlock the doors and didn't have to rip off the door cards like the mechanic said I would.

I have a 98 FWD V70 R the passenger side door has issues opening from outside of the car. You have to put pressure on the door, by pushing it towards the car, before it will unlatch. It opens fine from inside though.

The tab looks a little different from your video (I have 2000 V70 wagon) - it's not straight up and down like in your video but seems to be at an angle.

Hi Robert: I hope all is well!=20 I really enjoyed your series on the restoration. I'd love to do it to my ca= r, however, I still have my coolant loss and oil light problems. I understand your advise regarding the oil light/pressure, but haven't had = it done because of the coolant loss. The problem is I don't have much money= and certainly not enough to pay for a head gasket job?? Since Dec. 1, my oil light has been on most of the time and I have been los= ing coolant. I have only driven 400 miles since and at 30 MPH. I'm done to = just adding water because the reservoir empties in 6 miles. I don't think t= here is much pressure in the system at all and probably air pockets. I have= n't gone on the highway and driven enough to try to burb it because I don't= want to overheat or cause damage for lack of oil pressure. So I'm kind of stuck??? There are no signs of coolant anywhere. There is n= o coolant in the oil or on the plugs. There is no white smoke etc. and it s= tarts and runs-- no misfires from coolant. The temperature gauge has gone = up a few times but never near the red. I have notice "hot bubbling in the r= eservoir when I stop. I can't see what could cause a head gasket breach. I will have to do a block test- been putting it off because I don't know if= they are totally accurate??? Do you? Could it be a crudded up radiator not cooling enough? Should I do a pressur= e test? Compression test??=20 I certainly would appreciate whatever advise you may have to offer. ( Havin= g you to lean on is so nice) Thanks, Michael O'Brien

Well Michael, coolant is going somewhere. Have you checked under the carpet on the drivers side to see if the heater core is leaking? If the car is turbo, there are several hoses that can be leaking. If the cap or reservoir is bad, it could be leaking from there. As I have said, the system is pressurized and the cap should NEVER be removed when the car is hot. These cars do not need burped so that is not an issue, unless the wrong thermostat is installed. FIND THE LEAK.

You likely have a latch, it is stuck in the unlocked position. Is it also unlocked when you push the button down?

Seems like you need to replace the latch. You can pull the door panel, then pull the latch and replace it with a working one. I think they cost about $180 new and maybe $25 from a salvage yard.

Well, I've kind of figured it out. The door is locked. When I push the brass tab for the inner handle, I can hear the mechanism working. Actually, I believe the inner and outer handles are still working, the door is just locked. I saw that black tab you showed in the other video, I think mine is white, and it's down, but the door is still locked. Unless I'm just missing something. It's incredibly hard to see and get to.

Hi Robert, thanks for the note. I just got home and I'm very optimistic. The drive's side carpet was wet(damp). I had a couple friend 's look too and all felt it was wet and it was the heater core. ( I told them I couldn't wait to go home and tell you. lol!! I couldn't get the carpet up because the door won't open - that's why I asked whether they felt it was wet. you are right once again, my friend!!! I hope that's the only leak - just seems like a lot of coolant loss! I checked Europarts.com - an oem heater core is $60 and a Behr is $115. Where do you get your parts? I'll being writing a lot as I tackle this project--- oil sum kit , door , cam position sensor, 1 fuel injector etc.. I had an obd2 done at Autozone and learned of those.!! However, the coolant leak has to be resolved first and then the intermittent oil light.. I'll be in touch and asking more questions if you don't mind. I doubt you have an issue with a fuel injector. What were the codes? I get my heater cores from eBay, $39 shipped. They are coated with something and should be washed with hot water and whatever else. I was thinking about boiling my last one.

I was able to remove the panel and get the the latch assembly without removing the seat! Thanks Robert

I got it finally then drivers door wouldn't open I had to pay $300.00 at Volvo dealer ridiculous of something like this to happen and They say Volvos are good cars!

I could have used a vid like this 2 days ago...How to open any door on a totally frozen v70 inside 1" to 3" of solid ice in 20 degree weather, Robert, I should have made a vid! Took 1.5 hours and a totalled ice scraper! (Feel free to delete this attempt at humor!).

I have had that fun once. I usually just hunker down. It's easy in the south when it will be 53 degrees the next day. Watch out for the falling ice, YIKES!

Are you telling me that ALL of your doors failed at one time?

+tammy jordan Likely has a bad handle or latch. Take the door panel off and see if it has a loose mechanism.
