Yeah except when the guitar player played his lick the second time to show how great it would sound even without the bass, he didnt play the same lick. He removed ALL the “funk” from it. The hammer-on, the extra notes, etc… He just did the little strum. Making it purposefully appear like the bass was doing the rest. Which it WASNT! ALL of that funk WAS coming from the guitar, they just basically lied and changed the riff the second time to make it seem like the bass was doing all that.. Nope. Reality: The guitar DOES do all the heavy lifting regarding funkyness, as usual the bass is just there to “keep the beat”… its like a drum set with strings. Almost always.. Few exceptions of course… Flea, Burton, etc…. Suck it bass players Dont lie in a vid to make it seem more than it is and u wont get called out! P.S. Notice how they didnt ACTUALLY PLAY the bass part alone to show us how “funky” it was… because in their heart of hearts they KNOW we would all hear basically a drum with strings, keeping the beat… Lol

It's because what the bass would play he played on the guitar, proving something different, the bass is not needed, because it could be replaced, not because what it plays isn't important, if the bass was necessary you wouldn't be able to play an entire song in one instrument or have multiple melodic instruments playing at the same time without messing up like a piano duo, both are completely possible and normal things. The problem begins when you don't make up for the missing instrument if there is one at all, can you imagine how much the bass sucks on its own if it only plays the bass part? A solo isn't just a single instrument, it's an entirely different arrangement, that's why it sounds good, because when it's just one instrument it has to do more. I learned this the hard way back in high school's music class, shit was boring as fuck because we had to play as a band therefore no instrument would be playing anything complicated, the work is instead distributed, ofc this isn't always the case, some songs you can single out and instrument and it sound amazing, but that's due to both complexity and what they are playing itself.
