I can't walk for fatwood (she said)....not many woods around me but those that are here are used for commercial tree crops, all have 20 year old crenellated stumps full of the stuff. I always used to wonder where people found so much, now I've got tonnes. I love the smell too

You’re knowledge on knife steels must be immense, I’d love to see you do a video on steel steels for knives and what steel is better. For example, I’m sure you could sharpen a victorinox sak on a rock as you did the leatherman signal which is fantastic in a survival situation. Where as a harder steel you wouldn’t be able to unless you happened to have a diamond stone with you. Also as I understand it , better steels can be prone to rust and can also be brittle, but my trusty sak will keep going

You had me nervous there for a minute man. I have the NL4, the Northern Lights collection much finer “long convex” great for skinning and even finer camp prep, I want sure it was going to make it but I’m glad it did. Now the S1X without a doubt. I even recently took that one on an island survival training beat the crap out of it as a primary tool ( along with some shared machete ) but making spindles for fire bows even penetrating coconuts no issue. I frankly doubted the NL series would hold up albeit being beautiful precision knives. I’m more confident with my NL4 for sure though will probably opt for the S1X which is a tank. PS is that an IWC watch your wearing? Looks like a proper field watch
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Ай бұрын
I'm probably wearing a citizen Royal Marines field watch. I've been looking at an IWC spitfire but I think I'll stick with Omega as my brand . The Fallkniven X series are awesome, totally overbuilt survival tools.

Oooh ok more likely a Citizen Promaster - I was trying to figure out because of the missing 12,3,6,9 numerals which you don’t often see. Solid watch company. I just got a Marathon GSAR still mil specs in terms of function but not overdressed. A good # of watches conked out on me “ ten leagues beyond the wide worlds end”, I more and more seek the Old ways

I love how impressively sharp you get you knives, I can do a half decent job of sharpening a knife but they are no where near as hair poppingly sharp or well finished as yours. It does make me wonder though (and your a grown man so what you do is up to you), but do you carry a tourniquet and pressure dressing in your bush craft kit?
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Жыл бұрын
No I don't, this might seem stupid but although I look quite carefree with my cuts I'm not , I think before every cut and I'm not complacent, I've seen experienced people do silly things, I always have a first aid kit and plenty of duck tape (amazing stuff with anticeptic properties in the glue) , I should probably have a turnoquet, I have some military grade first aid stuff on the way!
@strongandco
@strongandco Жыл бұрын
@@RobEvansWoodsman Oh, don't think I was criticizing the way you using your knife, i definitely wasn't 🙂 I was just thinking about a "what if..." type scenario. You can get haemostatic/Israeli dressings quite cheaply on Amazon if you haven't already got them coming in your military medical haul. You can also get the windlass type tourniquets on there cheaply too. I keep one of each along with some cheap medical shears, an emergency blanket and steri-strips in a cheap Ifak pouch in the boot of my car. (as you can probably tell I'm quite cheap😄) If you haven't already had medical training there's plenty of great videos on You Tube on how to use a tourniquet and Israeli bandages. I periodically watch them just to remind myself so hopefully I'm less likely to panic if something ever does happen.

I do like the look of their knives, The leather handle looks the part pity your hands didn't agree. In danger of repeating myself, I think they are great knives and real work's of art, but you can buy knives a hell of a lot cheaper that do exactly the same job. To be honest at the price's they charge mine would live in a safe and never get to visit the woods.😂👍🏻

@@RobEvansWoodsman I have noticed 😁👍🏻, I'm the same I've spent a fortune over the years I think I'm just getting tighter the older I get. I've been using a Garberg for the past 4 months, I got one bought for me in December and I have to say I love it, really can't fault it, once I got it to a zero scandi it's been brilliant makes easy work of feather sticks, and the spine for scraping fat wood is superb.
