I met Robin at a Trek Convention 25 years ago in Pasadena CA .. I just saw her agin after all these years at the 2024 Vegas Trek Con a few weeks ago , the first thing I said to her was , I haven't seen you in 25 years .. she lights up like a Christmas tree , with that great energy and smile of hers , and we just talked like old friends . and that is Robin for you .. I am sure she didnt remember me from 25 years ago , I was like 19 or 20 back then , but I sure remembered her , pretty girl , tall , she is in my favorite Star Trek movie .. she is very sweet .. if you ever see her at convention , go say hello , you will not be disappointed , she is awesome ..

Sorry Dominic. Nimoy wouldn't come back for The Motion Picture (1st one) because of likeness problems. Nimoy was driving in the UK and saw a big billboard with Spock and drooped ears pitching bear. It was mentioned to Blughorn and he told them to pay him. The story with ST3 was that the studio head wouldn't hire him to direct because he was under the impression Nimoy wanted Spock killed in WoK. That was straightened out (i think it was Eisner). Nimoy directed 3 and 4. Shatner had favored nation clause, so he got 5.

Thank you all! Robin's comments on Meryl Streep and Out of Africa (46 minutes in) resonated strongly with me. I was in my 20s and working at a university when that movie was released. My local theater gave Redford top billing on its marquee. Given that Streep played the film's entire focus and that Redford had only a minor role, I complained to the theater management, which brushed me off. At the university, I complained to a marketing professor, who said, simply, that women made far more decisions than men on what movie to go see. That confused me further, because I had viewed Streep/Blixen as a strong, independent woman and therefore as a role model. Slowly it dawned on me that Redford's name was meant to be the greater draw to the decision-making female audience -- which, given the ramifications of that kind of prioritizing, pissed me off even more.

The original series was weirdly sexual for me too. I was first introduced to it by my father back in the early '70s when I was not yet over 5 years old. (If he were still alive today, he and I would be going to ALL the conventions) My earliest memories of Trek was being scared spitless by Balok's puppet, and admiring Grace Lee Whitney. I can attribute my early discovery of women to all of those minidresses on parade. In elementary school, I watched the girls and sat with them, at a time when all the other boys my age were obsessed with dinosaurs and avoiding cooties as if they were a societal ill drowning the world.

She is every bit as sweet in real life as she is in this interview. Very down-to-earth. I told her that I had just lost my wife to cancer 6 months earlier. Other people were approaching to talk to her so I told her goodbye. but she gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I was 55 years old but I felt like a teenager who is just been kissed by a goddess. Unfortunately there was no erotic behavior. Damn it. Lol
