One thing i love about this show vs the old show is that this seems for focused on the "meat" of a discussion, and doubles down on making those discussions deep and not surface level fan service like many other podcasts do.

Fabulous time today with Michelle Hurd chatting with the boys! She is a force to be reckoned with and informed all of us in the Trek fandom of the issues actors/writers/talent have to put up with during the SAG/AFTRA strike. (added love for Fran Drescher too!! I feel lucky to have Michelle take on the role of Raffi in such a realistic, deft way that I can't think of anyone else in that role. Thanks so much @D-ConChamberPod and everyone putting this together! ❤💛💙🤓🖖🏾

Michelle was such an excellent addition to Star Trek. What I love about her character is how she has a long history with Picard - a history that we never really see; save for one scene. And yet somehow, it feels like she's been there the entire time with the TNG cast.

Mrs. Hurd is an incredible human being, a wonderful Queen , and a very fierce person for human rights, her talents as an actress is on par with anyone out there today . And most of all she is totally humble . There are a few people that walk on this planet that you wish everyone could have just a little bit of what these folks have to make everyone those people already have . Thank you again Mrs. Hurd and continue success and prosperity to you.

@@Cenot4ph Those rights that you are talking about are over 250 years old , an though I for one favor tradition ; our society does not . Those four fathers in their wisdom could not have seen what society would have turned into 250 plus years later, and the changes that those years would bring ; and not to mention how every new generation wants to get rid of tradition, for a more modern way of living that suits their needs better. So, yes we still need human rights activists who care about the rights of others who do not get to speak for themselves. And I'm glad that she uses her platform to bring those rights to the forefront.

Probably the best actor in all of Star Trek. She brought the level of “Picard” up so high because of she played that role with such realism and craft. Should have had her in competition/conflict w Riker is S3 because she was as much Number 1 as he was. Brilliance. Great leader in the strike.

I would happily have watched a whole show based around Worf and Raffi. The whole third season of Picard was amazing to me. My only complaint was that it wasn't a hundred or so episodes! There's one tiny part of a scene in that season that's always stayed with me... it doesn't reflect anything in my life, but I just thought it was an impeccable combination of writing and acting that I'm sure few even remember. It's when Raffi meets up with her ex, and he asks if she's 'clean' now, and Raffi replies something like "I work for Starfleet now, I have to be"... then after the shortest of pauses, realises that this isn't the best way to answer, and corrects herself, desperately trying to improve her otherwise flawed image and adds "I want to be". Again, I've no idea why I remember that so much, other than it was one of those moments that says so much about the character, what she's thinking, and about the relationship with the ex, and the importance of answering the question 'correctly'. Great moment, great show, one of the best Trek seasons ever for me. I hope we get to see the further adventures of Raffi and Seven, and what looks like a great interaction/relationship between them and Picard's son.

@@Cenot4ph Yes I am serious. I thought the two characters worked excellently together. I don't doubt that there are Trek-'fans' out there that wouldn't like such a series. After the original show the next Trek I got into was Voyager. I've never been able to get through the first episode of DS9, and I've tried twice, with a ten year gap in between!!! And lots of fans say this is their favourite. We all have different tastes and not every show, not every episode, and not every character will appeal to every viewer. Oddly enough after forcing myself to eventually watch TNG just a few years back I always found Worf dull, and a pointless character. It's only now, with older Worf from the Picard show do I absolutely love the character.
@quantumjet253
@quantumjet253 29 күн бұрын
@@Cenot4ph Absolutely. Taste is subjective. For me that cartoon Trek is as horrendous as DS9 and I couldn't get through the first episode, but other people love it. I don't have an issue with that. I actually don't care about Trek lore. Entertainment is often written by people who had nothing to do with the original creation of it, and constantly alter, re-imagine, re-work characters and lore. In some respects once the original writer has nothing to do with a franchise you could consider it 'fan-fiction' from that point on. So I don't really get the obsession with lore. Writers/producers do whatever suits them, and most want to pull and twist established lore to suit their ideas, or vision, so there's little point caring for something if it's altered beyond your taste. Ask a so-called Star Wars fan, if you really want to know what a complete lack of respect for lore is like! Sometimes, in the case of Battlestar Galactica for example, throwing out the majority of the original concept's lore turns out very well. And yes, I actually loved both the original and the remake. One's pizza, the other's a cheeseburger. You can like both or just one, but neither's existence need affect the other. I don't consider myself a Trek-fan particularly so when a movie or show arrives that doesn't suit me I accept it's not for me and move on. I'm not into watching TV I don't care for. TV that you enjoy is excellent. TV that you don't isn't worth a second's worth of your time or effort. Tens of thousands of hours of TV is created every year... really, who cares for any of it that doesn't suit our individual taste?! Irrespective of your love or obsession with any entertainment, it's just a product to generate profit, and isn't worth getting upset about, nor having a low opinion of another if they happen to have different taste than you. Except for fans of new Star Wars! They're the scum of the universe; that's just a fact.
@quantumjet253
@quantumjet253 28 күн бұрын
@@Cenot4ph I've heard lore being an issue for all of the new Trek shows for some Trek fans. The only issue I'd have with lore is if it changed during an actual show's run. I have taken issue with lore in the past (can't think of an example) and if I can't get past it then that's the end of the show/movie/franchise. I didn't finance them, I wasn't the producer/director/writer, and I'm not the only member of the audience. As I've got older I've become more aware of how deep passion for an entertainment product is an easy path to upset and annoyance. The original creators either don't care, are dead, or chose wealth over a genuine care for their creation, so why should I care!? The truth is, if details annoy you, that's a clear indication you need to give up on the show. Because a genuine fan of a show or movie, or franchise looks past these 'issues'. It's how I know whether I'm suited to any entertainment. If my mind wanders and I start questioning things, take issue with too many details, am upset by what seems 'wrong' to me, I know I'm wasting my time. If you're distracted, rather than sitting back and enjoying the product, save yourself the upset and annoyance and give up. There are in fact, very few actual fans of any particular franchise. Anyone can love one or two movies in a franchise, or one or two seasons or shows in a franchise, but in reality few people should ever regarding themselves a fans of XXXXX. I don't think I'm a fan of any long-running franchise. I handpick a few movies, a particular era, or handful of shows I love, but the rest is likely, or often unbearable! The actor who played the new Adama in Battlestar Galatica said "I don't care to hear about your complaints. If you don't like the new show, stop watching and go watch the old one. I don't care!" I think that's the correct attitude to all long-running or re-imagined entertainment.

I'm glad they kept Michelle on for season 3 of Picard. I'm not sure I fully accepted her character, until we got her full arc (drugs? in MY star trek?) but she played it beautifully and seamlessly fit with long-standing characters. Looking back, it's surprising how much her character reminds me of similar ideas and themes that DS9 introduced - though I still think it hinges on season 3. Lovely woman, great actor.
