Mo's just passed and as others have stated, Robin honored his commitments while grieving. Years later Robin would say in an interview that he never would get over losing Maurice. When ill, and close to the end of his life, it is said that Robin said he ''wished Mo was here''. Respect and love to Robin.

He performed this I believe only weeks after losing Mo. He made the commitment and kept his word. A true professional. He got a standing "O" just for having the courage to show up. Love his comment about a "beauty contest". That's how many performers are judged and there are so few good composers out there. They make garbage or redo older songs, often poorly. Also sad since he was quoted in one of their bios that he "knew what people thought of me. I was ugly but I have a characterful face and try to look nice". I don't agree at all. His beauty was not just superficial but soul deep. That's the kind of beauty that REALLY counts. THANK YOU Chad for doing this version too! ☺ So meaningful under the circumstances of the performance. To add, such a shame that Barry didn't want to perform with Robin after Mo died. I guess withdrawing was Barry's way of grieving but Robin's source of solace was in performing.

I would go as far as to say;. I don't believe we would have lost Robin to cancer either - the ten years after Mo's death took a terrible toll on Robin's health, emotionally and physically and he made no secret of wanting to be with his brother. Very sad🥲❤️

@@paulakivelehan.beegeesme4076 - I agree Paula. First he hesitated for a while in following up with his health care because he said he was afraid after what happened to Mo. Also, he lost half of himself, his twin, best friend and confidant. He told his doctors he wanted to live and to do everything they could but maybe deep down inside he had lost the will to go on. The twins still had so much music left in them. Such a loss to the world. PS, going to London in October with a side trip to Thame.

Yes he was a great song writer, but most of the songs on the Magnet album were not written by him or his brothers. This song was written by Michael Graves & Errol Reid. Why it says Bernie and Elton John above must be up to the uploader to explain, because that is not correct.

In my opionion he is miming here. This was common on TV shows but I think Robin did mime more as he got older. He did well even to turn up here. I actually feel that this was one of his better interviews. He was probably too upset to try and be funny and it comes across as more natural. I find it fascinating that he said music "is not a beauty contest" and surely must reflect his hurt at how he was treated in the past when Barry was seen as the handsome one.
@gloriamaryhaywood22172 жыл бұрын
Yes, they all used a lot of back-tracking in their concerts as they got older. They would sing along with the recorded songs. But Robins beautiful voice held out the longest of the 3 brothers. I only noticed it changed once he had gotten very ill. By then, even his speaking voice had changed.💔

Love this reaction, Chad! I think you would really like and appreciate a song from Robin's Titanic Requiem album: Don't Cry Alone. It's the only one he sang on... (I believe anyway). The album was produced shortly before his death with his son Robin-John as a tribute to the Titanic disaster. Lovely album, but very classical in it's nature.
@dp33962 жыл бұрын
Yes!! Robin had been scheduled to sing it live at The Titanic Requiem premier commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, but was hospitalized. He worked every minute he could, even though he was obviously sick. Some would have hidden out of sight from the cameras, but he didn’t. It can be difficult to watch him wasting away and hear his beautiful voice become weak, but I can’t even express how much respect on top of respect I have for how he worked and gave interviews until he literally no longer could. DON’T CRY ALONE is a must do reaction!!

It's so interesting that Robin wrote a song that would, soon after, have a very personal meaning he never could've expected. It's amazing that he managed to perform that song live that well after his twin brother had just died. But, then again, he did say that Mo's passing drove him to more songwriting and singing. But, still. The song he sang must've been so hard for him to sing because he could relate it to the very recent passing of his twin brother. And, I'm sure that's all he was thinking about when he was singing the song. Robin really is someone to be admired and respected. This live version really does sound just like the studio version; I feel like it might've been lip synced.

Robin did not write "Please". The whole point of the Magnet album was to highlight songwriters he felt had promise and needed exposure. I do agree that the meaning of this song changed for him with Maurice's passing and the fact that he could perform at all is amazing. He looks like he visibly aged in a few short weeks. So much sorrow on his face.

@@susieq9801 Oh, wow! The talent of those Gibb bros is insane! I knew they sounded amazing live and that they clearly didn't always lip sync, I just remember people commenting on some of their live performances on KZbin and saying that they lip synced those songs, which would make sense because they sounded exactly like the recorded versions to me. So, since this live performance, also, sounded exactly like the recorded version to me, I just assumed it was lip synced. If there's one thing I should've learned about the Gibb bros, it's to never assume anything about them because they've done so many different things in their careers. Just when you think you've got them all figured out, you hear something from them that completely throws you off and surprises and amazes you.
