I love this movie. It's really funny to see "David" Chappelle like this, I think he was like 19 and this was his first movie so you can tell he's kind of the new guy and just grateful to be in the movie. Anytime he's in anything now it's such a big deal and everyone who works with him talks about what it's like to work with a comedy legend (the way they're talking about Mel in this) so it's interesting to see him before all of that.

This movie (and The Princess Bride) manage, as comedies, to recall many of the best features of those old swashbucklers.

Mel Brooks is one of best people in the movie business. He could take any movie and parody it into a hit. The one thing that i like is that he had no trouble taking actors from his other movies and using them again. it seemed that every line in this movie is funny of course that is just my option but like i said Mel Brooks is not afraid to do what he wants and that is what makes him so good at movie making. Also this is one of my favorite movie he has ever done and one of my favorite ever.
@95GrimReaper9 жыл бұрын
sassbrat Too bad that he will probably never direct a movie again
@sassbrat9 жыл бұрын
95GrimReaper Yeah that is true. but with the way the world is now on what you can say Mel would probally get sued just for being himself. also the death of his wife hit him very hard and i think that he just lost the will to write and direct. I also remember hearing something when i was a kid and bear in mind what i heard happened before i was even thought of. many people were saying that Mel Brooks was Anti-Jew because of the Jewish jokes in his movies. and this was a time when they didn't know he was Jewish. i am not sure what really happened but i think that he told the people how can he be anti-Jew when he is Jewish or something like that. one thing that i thought was funny if you think about it is Mel served in WW2 and he disarmed bombs which i think was cool but in my option he probably used humor to help those who were a part of his unit when they were stressed about disarming bombs to relax.
@95GrimReaper9 жыл бұрын
sassbrat considering that he is jewish he would probably get away with it but I think we will never get to see another movie directed by him because his really reall bold now and it has been a long time since he directed something. I've seen this movie more times than I'd care to admit. I love Mel Brooks' comedy. Just before the world went self conscious (1998-2002) I was in High School and fenagled my way into making a collegiately accredited English/literature/film curriculum include "Blazing Saddles." That was the best teacher I ever had. Students view, analyze and then interpret the film, write a paper exploring their interpretation and then present it to the class. That assignment led to excellent communication within the student body. That particular class in hindsight worked to triangulate what was "politically correct" at a given point in time by exploring political science issues focusing on common literature, film and art during any specific time. That class taught me how somebody can do a little research and truly 'cop-a-feel' on the social/political/other concerns specific to that moment in time. Thanks Mel
