They do that because the smell could attract other birds to their nest.

She doesn't eat it, she partially swallows it and regurgitates it later away from the nest. It is a fecal sac so she does not come into contact with the actual poop.

That is also the way the parents keep the nest cleaned up. Lots of bird species do this. Most of the fecal matter is undigested protein, so the parents eat it the first few days after the eggs are hatched. After that, the parents just take it away to dispose of someplace else. Most young birds leave the nest after about 14 days or so.

Majority of the buffoons in the comments know Jack (or Sara) about birds. These two were likely beginners and chose a bad nesting spot which left them wide open to attacks; no coverage, shade, etc. Was doomed from the start. 😔

Baby snacks love adventures like this. I once made a nice one for a few baby snacks: they have visited a Dark Castle of Terror where Dracula reigns. One baby bird called Coffee was declared to be a turkish spy and was impaled on a toothpick. He was so excited about it! His limbs were moving so fast! Second one, Pirate, drowned when i tried to brew him. But he was very good at swimming. Finally, the last one, Beakie, was beloved by Dracula and tried to explore the Cave of Doom. He was given a toothpick as weapon, but unfortunately his life ended in Cave of Doom, not unlike many baby birbs before him. Because Cave of Doom is my mouth. He was chirping even after chewing him a bit.
